Jerry Sandusky Arrested on New Sex Abuse Charges
By Colleen Curry
December 7, 2011

Former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky was arrested and jailed today in the wake of new sexual assault charges filed against him by a grand jury.

Sandusky was handcuffed and taken out of his home by state police and brought to an arraignment before a judge in Centre County, Pa., for the new charges, which include assaulting two boys involved in his Second Mile charity.

Sandusky was taken to Centre County Correctional Facility for processing and will remain there until bail is posted. His attorney, Joe Amendola, said he is getting paperwork together to try and post bail by Thursday morning. Bail was set at $250,000, cash, although the prosecutor had asked for $1 million. If bail is posted, Sandusky is not permitted to step onto Penn State property and will be monitored electronically.

Amendola told ABC News that he had no knowledge of the charges ahead of the arrest.

"I'm very disappointed that I didn't even get a courtesy call that new charges had been filed. I had to find out from the media," Amendola said.

Sandusky, wearing Penn State pants at the time of his arrest, requested that the arraignment not begin until Amendola arrived at the courthouse, according to ABC affiliate WPVI.

Amendola greeted Sandusky in the courtroom by saying, "Told you. We had this discussion. Some day you will listen to me," to which Sandusky smiled, according to WPVI.
In court, Amendola asked for lower bail, arguing that his client was not a flight risk, and that he'd been subjected to heavy media coverage and confined to his home.

The new alleged victims came forward in the wake of the earlier allegations against Sandusky, including 40 counts of child molestation, for which he was charged on Nov. 5.

According to the state attorney general, both men met Sandusky through the Second Mile charity, were plied with trips to football games, and were abused by him in Sandusky's home.
 ::snipping2::
The new charges include involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, unlawful contact with a minor, indecent assault, endangering the welfare of children, and corruption of minors.

The new charges will be included in an already-scheduled preliminary hearing on Tuesday.

***************************
Remember this from the original 100,000.00 unsecured bond in the ruling by the original judge?

"The ruling placed no restrictions on his travel. Sandusky's lawyer, Joe Amendola, advised Sandusky and his wife to take a trip ahead of the next legal proceeding to clear his head, he told CNN."

Maybe the attorney Joe Amendola and Jerry Sandusky are an attorney/client match made in heaven.  Both have enormous egos!!  JMHO

Sandusky Arrested on New Sexual Abuse Charges
December 7, 2011

Jerry Sandusky, the former Penn State assistant football coach who was charged last month with 40 counts of sexual abuse against eight boys, was arrested Wednesday on new sexual abuse charges after grand jury testimony by two additional accusers, the authorities said.
 ::snipping2::
Mr. Sandusky was charged with four counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and two counts of unlawful contact with a minor, all first-degree felonies punishable by up to 20 years in prison and $25,000 in fines. He was also charged with three third-degree felonies and three first-degree misdemeanors.

Mr. Sandusky’s lawyer, Joseph Amendola, did not immediately return a telephone message Wednesday. Mr. Sandusky has maintained his innocence on the earlier charges.

Jerry Sandusky jailed after failing to make bail
By MARYCLAIRE DALE and GENARO C. ARMAS
December 7, 2011

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Jerry Sandusky has been taken to a Pennsylvania county jail after being unable to post $250,000 bail in cash.

The former Penn State assistant coach was jailed Wednesday after a brief court hearing.

Sandusky faces new charges based on the testimony of two new accusers, including one who claims Sandusky molested him numerous times in a basement bedroom at Sandusky’s home. He already faced 40 counts of child sex abuse involving eight young boys over a 15-year span.
 ::snipping2::
Senior Magisterial District Judge Robert E. Scott said if Sandusky does make bail, he will be under house arrest and subject to electronic monitoring.

Prosecutors had sought $1 million in bail.

The charges were brought after new accusers were questioned by a grand jury following Sandusky’s arrest last month. One alleged victim claims he was assaulted after meeting Sandusky in 1997 and the other claims he was assaulted in 2004.

The new charges include four counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and two counts of unlawful contact with a minor, all of them first-degree felonies punishable by up to 20 years in prison and $25,000 in fines.

Sandusky also was charged with a count of indecent assault and two counts of endangering the welfare of children. Those are third-degree felonies punishable by up to seven years in prison and $15,000 in fines.

Like some of the other victims, the two new ones, dubbed Victims 9 and 10 by prosecutors, allegedly met Sandusky through The Second Mile charity, which he founded in 1977.

Charity linked to Penn St. scandal reveals layoffs
December 7, 2011

 ::snipping2::
For more than 20 years, the charity received accolades and widespread community support for its programs designed to help troubled youths. It grew from a volunteer organization to one with more than $3 million in revenue in 2009, and it reported helping thousands of children.

The charity said in a statement Wednesday that it has recently lost significant financial support and that some employees will be laid off over the next several months. It didn't say how many staffers would be cut. It has three offices in Pennsylvania, with headquarters in State College, where Penn State is based.
 ::snipping2::
The charity's revenue, primarily from donations and fundraisers such as golf tournaments, declined to about $2.7 million in 2010, and Sandusky, who played a major role in fundraising, resigned later that year.

Last month, The Second Mile said it was looking at three options in the wake of the sex abuse scandal: continuing programs at a reduced level, transferring programs to other organizations or closing.

But attorneys representing people who accuse Sandusky of abusing them then said they planned to sue the charity and sought an injunction to stop it from dissolving or transferring its assets. The attorneys and the charity agreed to a settlement last week, but full details weren't disclosed.

The Second Mile said in Wednesday's statement that it is saddened by the need to make the cuts and that it will try to preserve key programs. Previously scheduled programs will continue as planned.

School: Sandusky denied job after background check

MARYCLAIRE DALE and GENARO C. ARMAS

The Associated Press

PHILADELPHIA - A year and a half after an investigation began into Jerry Sandusky's contact with young boys, the former Penn State assistant football coach applied for a volunteer coaching job at a central Pennsylvania college but was denied the job after a background check.

Officials at Juniata College said Wednesday that Sandusky applied for the volunteer football coaching job in May 2010 and rejected the following month after a background check showed a high school where Sandusky previously volunteered was investigating him.

Juniata spokesman John Wall said the college was not informed of the details of the investigation or the existence of a grand jury, but based on the report informed its coaches Sandusky was not to have contact with the program.

"We basically did our due-diligence," Wall said.

According to Wall, Sandusky continued to attend games after he was rejected for the job and at one point sat in the press box for an away game.

Wall said he wasn't sure what led Sandusky to be in the press box, but said the school's former athletic director then reiterated to its coaches that Sandusky was to have no connection with the team.

I think the $250,000 cash bail amount is really low, considering the charges against him.  The prosecution had asked for $1 million.  I'm looking at Louis "Skip" ReVille's bond of $1 million dollars for the 14 charges he's being held on.  http://scaredmonkeys.net/index.php?topic=12372.msg1488942#msg1488942  Jerry Sandusky was initially charged with 40 counts against 8 victims and had a 100,000.00 unsecured bond.  Now there are two more victims and the charges are:

BBM - Joe Amendola's arrogance almost chokes me.  It reminds me so much of Jose Baez.  (gag!)  Why should Jerry Sandusky continue to get kid glove treatment?  The first round, there were 8 victims with 40 counts and a $100,000 non-secured bond, with no travel restrictions etc.  and he left the house in a suit and tie.  This time, (surprise!) he got taken from his home  in a PSU sweat suit and  hand cuffs.  There are two more victims, charged with another 9 counts and a $250,000 cash bond that he couldn't pay so he's sitting in jail.  Why should he or his attorney be notified so he can turn himself in?  Why shouldn't he wear hand cuffs like most of the rest of us would be?  What makes Jerry Sandusky so special?  Just askin'....

UPDATE(3): Sandusky arrested as new charges are filed, terms of bail set
December 7, 2011

He was taken away in handcuffs from his home and now former Penn State Assistant Coach Jerry Sandusky has been arrested for sexually assaulting more young boys.

Sandusky is currently in jail, unable to post bail. We are told that Jerry Sandusky is sitting in a jail cell in the Centre County Correctional Facility.

In a hearing Wednesday, prosecutors asked for a bail on $1 million based on these new charges. The judge set it at $250,000 and Sandusky couldn't pay it.

“It's real simple. They wanted this sort of show.” ‘You're saying they wanted a media circus?’ “Oh, I think so. This is going to be all over the country again and we are talking about a fair trial and we are going to see Jerry Sandusky in handcuffs. On new charges, when Jerry Sandusky would have turned himself in and we could have done this is a very civil way.”

That was Jerry Sandusky's attorney, Joseph Amendola, responding to the most recent charges against his client, who says he's still innocence.

In a second report from a Grand Jury, two more alleged victims have come forward claiming that Sandusky sexually abused them. The total is now 10.

They were encouraged to come forward following Sandusky's first arrest. Their stories are nearly identical to the first eight.

More counts filed against Sandusky
Ex-Penn State assistant coach held in jail in sex abuse case

By Jon Schmitz and Ron Musselman, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
December 8, 2011

 ::snipping2::
Mr. Sandusky now faces 52 criminal counts of abuse. Dressed in a Penn State sweat suit and looking haggard, he was arraigned Wednesday on the new charges by Senior District Judge Robert E. Scott, who ordered him held on $250,000 straight cash bond. He was being held in the Centre County Correctional Facility, said Nils Frederiksen, spokesman for Ms. Kelly. Judge Scott of Westmoreland County has been assigned to preside over the preliminary hearing.

If Mr. Sandusky is able to post bond and get out of jail, he will be subject to house arrest with electronic monitoring. Judge Scott also ordered him to have no contact with victims or witnesses and no unsupervised contact with minors.

Mr. Sandusky did not speak during the arraignment, but after being charged, he leaned over to his attorney, Joseph Amendola, and said, "Are we going to talk about this?"

Prosecutors had sought to have Mr. Sandusky's bond set at $1 million, but Mr. Amendola argued for a lower amount. He said Mr. Sandusky was not a flight risk and said he was subjected to heavy media coverage and confined to his home.
 ::snipping2::
Mr. Sandusky was charged with four counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and two counts of unlawful contact with a minor, first-degree felonies that each are punishable by up to 20 years in prison and $25,000 fines; one count of indecent assault and two counts of endangering the welfare of children, third-degree felonies each punishable by up to seven years in prison and $15,000 fines; and one count of indecent assault and two counts of corruption of minors, first-degree misdemeanors each punishable by up to five years in prison and $10,000 fines.

He was arrested by agents from the attorney general's office and Pennsylvania State Police at his home and led away in handcuffs.

He faces a preliminary hearing Tuesday in Centre County Common Pleas Court. Mr. Amendola said he did not expect a delay in next week's hearing as a result of the new charges.

"We always anticipated this," Mr. Amendola said. "It's disappointing. I doubt very much whether they will grant a continuance for us."

Warden: Standard procedures for Sandusky in jail
GENARO C. ARMAS, Associated Press
December 8, 2011

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — The warden of the Pennsylvania jail holding Jerry Sandusky on additional child sex-abuse charges says the facility is following standard procedure with the former Penn State assistant football coach.

Centre County Correctional Facility Warden Edward DeSabato says Sandusky is still in custody Thursday morning.
 ::snipping2::
DeSabato says Sandusky currently has his own cell in an area of the facility where new prisoners are evaluated for 48 to 72 hours. He says officials typically take the time to determine the level of security needed for new prisoners.

Sandusky Posts Bail in Latest Sex Abuse Charges
December 8, 2011

Former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky posted bail Thursday after spending a night in jail following a new round of sex-abuse charges filed against him.

Sandusky secured his release using $200,000 in real estate holdings and a $50,000 certified check provided by his wife, Dorothy, according to online court records. Sandusky remained at the facility as of midmorning and the warden said he was quiet and cooperative during his overnight stay.

Sandusky was arrested Wednesday and charged with 12 new sex abuse counts involving two new alleged victims. He has maintained his innocence.
 ::snipping2::
Sandusky was charged last month with abusing eight boys, some on campus, over 15 years, allegations that were not immediately brought to the attention of authorities even though high-level people at Penn State apparently knew about them. In all, he faces more than 50 charges.

A person close to Joe Paterno's family has told The Associated Press the former Penn State football coach is undergoing treatments and progressing after being diagnosed last month with lung cancer.

The person requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation. Paterno's son, Scott, last month requested privacy for the family after revealing that doctors discovered his father's treatable form of lung cancer during a follow-up visit for a bronchial illness.

School trustees fired Paterno on Nov. 9 in the aftermath of child sex abuse charges against retired defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky. Authorities have said Paterno is not a target of the investigation.

Paterno received the cancer diagnosis several days later. His family has said that doctors are optimistic he will make a full recovery.
