ELLEFONTE, Pa. -- Dottie Sandusky, the wife of Jerry Sandusky, is on the witness stand in his trial this afternoon.

Her initial remarks during the start of her testimony focused on how she and her husband met.

Mrs. Sandusky has stood by her husband, posting his bail, accompanying him to court proceedings and issuing a statement in December that proclaimed his innocence and said that accusers were making up their stories.

She is not charged in the case.

One witness has already testified that he was attacked the Sanduskys' basement and once tried to cry out for help when she was upstairs.

The defense offered Dr. Elliot Atkins' testimony only as an explanation for letters Mr. Sandusky wrote to some of his accusers, described earlier in the trial by one witness as "creepy love letters." He said that the disorder could lead to inappropriate sexual or provocative behavior and could explain letters written to alleged victims by Mr. Sandusky.

McKean County Senior Common Pleas Judge John M. Cleland told jurors that lawyers on both sides had agreed that the doctor's diagnosis was not offered to explain or excuse any other conduct. Prosecutors are expected to call their own expert who will dispute Dr. Atkins' findings.

BELLEFONTE -- A family friend of the Sanduskys who was at their house when the man known as alleged Victim 4 brought his fiance and baby to visit in 2009, testified this afternoon during Jerry Sandusky’s child sex abuse trial.
Elaine Steinbacher said she would often stay at the Sandusky home instead of in a hotel when she would travel to the Centre County area for work because “I used him as my motivator and my inspiration,” she said. “I stayed in their home eight to 11 times a year.”

It was on one of those occasions that Victim 4 called Dottie Sandusky on the spur of the moment and asked to come for dinner. Steinbacher said she and Dottie had to run to KFC to get dinner to feed them.

“The whole purpose of the visit, to me, was for Jerry and Dottie to make a big fuss over his son,” Steinbacher said.

They stayed a few hours, and it was friendly, she recalled on the stand. “Just a lovely afternoon,” she said. “I remember saying to Dottie, ‘You’ll see a lot of them. Obviously he’s looking for foster grandparents.’”

When Victim 4 testified about years of abuse he’s alleging against Sandusky, he said he arranged the visit in an attempt to appease his girlfriend, who was beginning to ask questions about his relationship with the 68-year-old former football great.

I didn't think it would really matter whether Dottie Sandusky testified or not.  It would be expected for Dottie to say good things about Jerry imo.  If she did say she suspected anything or had seen anything suspicious, she would then have to explain why she did nothing.  Again, jmho.
