Will check out Freh's report tomorrow, hoping that it will be an honest and true accounting of the obvious coverup. Shameful, disgusting and criminal what went on there, not one of those adults gave a darn about the kids....ever.

The Freeh Report will be what it will be, I guess.  But what it isn't is a criminal investigation.  I'm interested in looking at it, but since it was paid for by PSU, it just doesn't hold water imo.  My concern is what it doesn't say.

I agree with you.  "Shameful, disgusting and criminal what went on there, not one of those adults gave a darn about the kids...ever."

FREEH REPORT: Penn State officials, persuaded by Paterno, covered up abuse
BY MICHAEL R. SISAK / STAFF WRITERPublished: July 12, 2012

PHILADELPHIA — Persuaded by former head football coach Joe Paterno, Penn State officials covered up a 2001 child-sex abuse allegation against ex-defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky, an internal university investigation has found.
Paterno, the investigation found, was also aware of a 1998 child-sex abuse allegation Sandusky. Athletic director Tim Curley and vice president Gary Schultz, both of whom face criminal charges stemming from the alleged cover up, and university president Graham Spanier, were also aware of the 1998 allegation.

In an e-mail dated May 13, 1998, with the subject line “Jerry”, Curley sent Schultz and asked “Anything new in this department? Coach is anxious to know where it stands,” the report said.

Spanier, Curley and Schultz revealed the change in their strategy in handling the February 2001 charge via e-mail, an investigative report said. The e-mail was uncovered in March by investigators, the lead investigator, former F.B.I. director Louis J. Freeh, said.

According to the 267-page report, Curley e-mailed Spanier and Schultz on Feb. 27, 2001 telling them he changed his mind about an agreed upon plan to alert the authorities, saying: "after giving it more thought and talking it over with Joe yesterday," he now wanted to tell Sandusky "we feel there is a problem" and would offer him "professional help."

If Sandusky was cooperative, Curley said, according to the report, "we would work with him" to inform Sandusky's charity for troubled youth, the Second Mile. If Sandusky did not cooperate, Curley said, "we don't have a choice and will inform" the state Department of Public Welfare and the Second Mile.

Spanier replied, according to the report: "This approach is acceptable to me" and acknowledged the university's potential liability if the abuse did not stop: "The only downside for us is if the message isn't 'heard' and acted upon and we then become vulnerable for not having reported it. But that can be assessed down the road. The approach you outline is humane and a reasonable way to proceed."

Joe Paterno, others covered up Jerry Sandusky abuse of children, PSU-Freeh report says
By Sara Ganim, The Patriot-Newa
Published: Thursday, July 12, 2012, 9:31 AM     Updated: Thursday, July 12, 2012, 9:46 AM

Joe Paterno knew about and "followed closely" allegations that Jerry Sandusky abused a boy in a shower in 1998, and participated in a cover up by "repeatedly concealing critical facts" even when similar allegations were reported to him three years later, according to a Penn State internal investigation.

Reporters from the Penn State Daily Collegian, from left, Tim Gilbert, Lauren Ingeno and Stephen Pianovich read the report on the investigation by former FBI director Louis Freeh on Penn State's involvement in the Jerry Sandusky scandal prior to a press conference at the Westin in Philadelphia. Freeh was tasked by the Penn State Board of Trustees to lead Penn State's internal investigation of the Sandusky scandal.

That's the opposite of what the late coach testified to under oath when he went before a grand jury in 2011. He also denied knowing anything about the 1998 report days before he died in January, when he agreed to an interview with The Washington Post.

Freeh report: 'Total disregard for the safety and welfare of Sandusky's child victims'
Published: Thursday, July 12, 2012, 8:59 AM     Updated: Thursday, July 12, 2012, 9:34 AM

Former FBI director Louis Freeh said key Penn State officials, including President Graham Spanier and head football coach Joe Paterno, heard allegations about Jerry Sandusky abusing children in 1998.
In a press release about his team's report on Penn State's handling of the Jerry Sandusky sex abuse scandal, Freeh said:

"Our most saddening and sobering finding is the total disregard for the safety and
welfare of Sandusky’s child victims by the most senior leaders at Penn State. The most powerful men at Penn State failed to take any steps for 14 years to protect the children who Sandusky victimized.

"Messrs. (PSU President Graham) Spanier, (vice president Gary) Schultz, (coach Joe) Paterno and (athletic director Tim) Curley never demonstrated, through actions or words, any concern for the safety and well-being of Sandusky’s victims until after Sandusky’s arrest."
Freeh's team found that the four all knew about two incidents of Sandusky allegedly molesting boys in a Penn State locker room shower.
