POLICE have discovered an enormous drug smuggling tunnel snaking from Mexico into the US — and seized more than 17 tons of marijuana.

The 1,200ft hidden passage ran from a warehouse in a San Diego industrial park under the border to the city of Tijuana.

US federal agents made the discovery after police stopped a truck emerging from the warehouse and found three tons of the drug.
