Police Baffled by Disappearance of 'Entire Family' in Florida
Published November 23, 2011

Authorities are appealing to the public for information after they realized that an entire family disappeared from a motel in Florida, MyFoxOrlando.com reports.

The investigation began when Karen Burger, 57, was reported missing by her father in August. About six weeks into the search for her, detectives realized that Burger's daughter, Christina, her son-in-law, Allen Hilgefort, and the couple's two-year-old son were also missing.

The four family members were last seen at a motel in Edgewater, Fla., in July, according to authorities.

Police said there has been no activity with any of their bank accounts.

"We're basically missing an entire family," detective Sgt. Eugene Griffith said.

I just caught this on the news.  I can't believe that an entire family can be missing for so long with no one realizing it.  Scary!

4 New Smyrna family members missing

November 22, 2011 12:55 AM

 ::snipping2::

At first, New Smyrna Beach investigators thought they were looking for a 57-year-old woman with a drug problem who had been missing since late July; now police are also searching for the woman's daughter, son-in-law and 2-year-old grandson.

The last time all four were seen together was at a motel in Edgewater where they stayed for four days in late July.

But after July 28, Karen Lee Burger, her daughter Christina Thompson, her son-in-law Allen Hilgefort and her 2-year-old grandson Wyatt Hilgefort seemed to have vanished without a trace, New Smyrna Beach police said Monday.
 ::snipping2::

It is believed Burger disappeared July 25, but her father Maxwell Lee did not report her missing until Aug. 23. Lee said Burger -- who has long struggled with drugs and alcohol -- has taken off in the past, but always returned within a few days. When he didn't hear from her for almost a month though, Lee -- who also lives in New Smyrna Beach -- called police.

Investigators mentioned several weeks ago that the 38-year-old Thompson -- a dancer at a Daytona Beach bikini bar who has been arrested a handful of times for alcohol-related issues and traffic violations -- was also missing, but they had not made an issue of it because no one reported her gone.

Covey said Thompson, Hilgefort and Wyatt had been living with Burger at her New Smyrna Beach house until she asked them to leave July 25. That same day Thompson, Hilgefort and the toddler left and went to the All-Suite Motel in Edgewater. According to Covey, Burger and Hilgefort did not always get along.

A manager at the All-Suite confirmed on Monday that Thompson and her family had stayed in a room at the motel, 335 N. Ridgewood Ave. -- for four nights from July 25 to July 28.

But Lee said his daughter also went to the motel.

"Karen was seen at the same motel about an hour after (her daughter got there)," Lee said.

It's not clear why Burger went to the All-Suite, but she did leave her small dog behind at her residence, her father said.

I hope  everyone that starts a thread in the future reads the article very carefully before they create a subject line.  It doesn't take long to change a thread title, but each time someone posts, it's repeated in each subject line thereafter.  If there's wrong information, such as a name wrong, or dates wrong a decision has to be made whether to let it stand except for the thread title change, or a moderator to go in and manually changed each and every subject line in each and every post.  I think most of us really want accurate information and not have errors that get multiplied.  I'm still trying to correct mistakes in another thread from something similiar.  If someone see's errors, please notify a mod asap.  Thank you.  Rant over.  MB

Okay, I've got it now.  I'll be changing the subject line to read:

~~~~Woman still missing but her family has been located
   By Gary Taylor, Orlando Sentinel
8:30 p.m. EST, January 11, 2012
A 57-year-old New Smyrna Beach woman who was last seen in July is still missing, but police said today they have located members of her family who also disappeared.
In November, police began looking for Karen Lee Burger's daughter, Christina Lea Thompson Hilgefort, 38, and her husband, Allen Arthur Hilgefort, 33.
They, along with their 2-year-old child, disappeared from the area and were wanted for questioning about Burger's disappearance.
The couple and their child were located Dec. 22 after they were involved in a traffic crash in Ohio, New Smyrna Beach police Investigator Mike Covey said.
