At the opening of Lane's preliminary examination last month, his 8-year-old daughter told Judge Ruth C. Carter about occasions when her father used the stick on both her and Bianca.

Lane's girlfriend, Anjali Lyons, previously testified that she woke early Dec. 2 to the child's screams as Lane used the stick to beat Bianca's bare flesh after she urinated in the bed. Later the same morning, Lane carried a silent Bianca to his car. She was covered with an animal print blanket.

"She was cold. I made sure I had a blanket and she was covered up," Lane told police during the interview. "It was kind of cold in (the car)."

Lane told police he left his home around 7:45 a.m. Dec. 2 with his nephew, Bianca and his older daughter. Quincy said Lane told police he dropped off his nephew and 8-year-old daughter before visiting a gas station, the Wayne County Community College campus in Detroit and talked with a friend near the Greyhound bus station on Howard Street. He then left downtown Detroit and was allegedly carjacked around Brush Street and Grand River, Quincy testified Tuesday.

A forensic canine expert brought in a victim recovery dog two days after Bianca went missing. He testified the dog detected a cadaver scent inside Lane's car, on Bianca's blanket and car seat and in the girls' bedroom in Lane's home.

Cold?  As in the way a body feels after death?
Silent?  As in unable talk once a person dies?

Is this lady trying to say the girl was dead but she doesn't really want to admit that she knew it?

Lane used a hard stick to keep her alert after she fell and hit her head?!  He "popped her on the butt"?!  Was he caring for a two year old little girl or herding cattle?!  I think Lane is a liar.  Why didn't he take her to the ER if he thought she had a head injury?  Why couldn't he have used a cool washcloth to wipe her face to help her stay awake if that was his concern? (Until he could get her to ER).  Why didn't he wake anyone else in the house for help?  Liar, liar, liar Lane!

Detroit— Hours before his 2-year-old daughter went missing, D'Andre Lane used a hard stick to keep her alert after she hit her head falling out of bed, according a videotaped statement to Detroit Police.

Lane, in a five-hour interview, said his toddler, Bianca Jones, hadn't slept well after she fell out of bed about 1 a.m. Earlier, he'd used the stick to discipline her during potty-training.

"I was keeping her up. She kept on trying to nod out. I popped her on the butt, like 'come on baby, get up,'" Lane told Detroit Police Officer John Quincy while questioned at a Detroit Police precinct.

Segments of Lane's Dec. 3 statement were played Tuesday in 36th District Court during the third day of his hearing on first-degree murder and child abuse charges in Bianca's Dec. 2 disappearance.

That makes NO sense whatsoever.  Of course she wasn't sleeping well, you kept on popping her with a stick when she would nod off.  And so you used the stick as a discipline for a potty training and to keep her awake.  So beating on your kid was not unusual.

This guy has creeped me out since he was on NG the first time.  He is a narcissistic, ego-maniac.  The reason he didn't take Bianca to the ER was because it would look bad on him.  He is all about being this well dressed, educated, eloquent, successful, responsible citizen when is really nothing more than a child beating bully con man.

Bianca was alive morning she disappeared, nephew testifies
May 11, 2012

The 16-year-old nephew of D'Andre Lane testified Thursday that he saw 2-year-old Bianca Jones alive the morning of Dec. 2, just hours before Lane said he was carjacked and the girl disappeared.

The nephew said he spent the night of Dec. 1 at Lane's house on Mitchell Street and said one of Lane's three children at the home, Bianca, who was suffering from diarrhea, was the last to go to bed.

"My uncle brought her to the front room around 2 a.m.," the teen said. The teen said Lane spanked Bianca with his homemade paddle -- two times on the buttocks -- and then hit him.

"She didn't cry really," the nephew said. "He set her on his lap and she was looking at me."

The following morning the nephew recalled Lane placing Bianca on the couch next to him.

The testimony came on the fourth day of a preliminary examination for Lane, 32, in 36th District Court in Detroit.
 ::snipping2::

 ::snipping2::
FBI special agent Chris Hess, an expert in cellular phone analysis, also testified Thursday about Lane's cell phone activity the morning of Dec. 2.

Hess said there were no phone calls made from Lane's phone from 8:55-9:47 a.m., when a 911 call was made.

Wayne County prosecutors showed videotaped portions of a Dec. 9 ride-along Hess and Lane took to retrace the events leading up to the carjacking.

In the video, Lane told Hess he left his house on Mitchell before 8 a.m. From there, Lane dropped off his nephew and got gasoline.

Bianca Jones' father bound over for trial on murder, child abuse charges
2-year-old girl missing since Dec. 2, when D'Andre Lane says he was carjacked with her inside

The father of a 2-year-old Detroit girl who has been missing since last year will now go to trial for her disappearance.

The girl, Bianca Jones, hasn’t been seen since Dec. 2, 2011, when her father said he was carjacked with her in the back seat.

Police found the car a short time later, but the girl wasn't in it.

D'Andre Lane was bound over to trial Tuesday by Judge Ruth Carter on charges of felony murder and first-degree child abuse.

Witnesses and officers have testified that Lane might have beaten and killed the girl.

However, her body has still not been found.

Carter said she made her decision based on testimony from people who were inside the house the night before the girl went missing.

Lane's own girlfriend said she awoke to hear Bianca crying and being disciplined by Lane for wetting the bed. She said he used a stick he had made by wrapping a sponge with duct tape. She said she heard Lane hit Bianca “three or four times" before everything was quiet.

Lane is scheduled to be arraigned June 5.

Dad obsessed with toilet training kills daughter for having accident, prosecutor says

Published September 19, 2012

DETROIT –  A Detroit man was so obsessed over toilet training that he fatally beat his 2-year-old daughter for having an accident, a prosecutor said Wednesday in an opening statement to jurors at the man's first-degree murder trial.

D'Andre Lane also is charged with child abuse in the Dec. 2 disappearance of Bianca Jones, whose body has never been found. Lane told police the toddler was abducted during a carjacking. The car was found less than an hour later, but the girl wasn't in it.

Lane, who has fathered seven children with seven women, is accused of beating Bianca to death with a stick with a towel wrapped in duct tape, and disposing of her body. Lane told officers during questioning that he had spanked the child for wetting herself.

"He believed that if 2-year-olds had accidents they should be physically punished," Wayne County Assistant Prosecutor Carin Goldfarb told jurors. "The defendant staged a carjacking to cover up the death of his baby."

Lane put the child's body in the car the next day as he was going to take an older daughter and a nephew to school, Goldfarb said.

Fiancé of suspected child killer admits to hearing intense cries from toddler Bianca Jones

September 20, 2012

ETROIT (WXYZ) - Before testifying as a witness for the prosecution, Anjali Lyons told jurors that she's now engaged to marry D'Andre Lane, the man who prosecutors say beat his 2-year-old daughter to death because she soiled herself one too many times.

Unless pressed by prosecutors, Lyons seemed unable, or unwilling, to recall what she told investigators months ago about the early morning hours of December 2 when Bianca's cries woke her up. Lyons also described noises that sounded like "taps".

But when she was shown transcripts of her testimony from an earlier hearing, Lyons conceded that the crying was intense and the hits were harder and louder.
 ::snipping2::
On the stand Thursday, Lyons also identified an 18-inch stick wrapped at one end with heavy duty tape as "the paddle" Lane used to discipline his children.

Lyons told the jury that Bianca's cries woke her up around 3:00 a.m. that December day, but she says didn't go check on the toddler because she didn't want to interfere with Lane disciplining his other children.

Mother stands by suspect in Bianca Jones's disappearance
September20, 2012

Detroit — The mother of missing Bianca Jones testified in the murder trial of the man accused in the toddler's killing that she believes he's innocent and that her child is still alive.

"My daughter is out there. She's still out there," Banika Jones said Wednesday from the witness stand of a Wayne County Circuit Court room during opening testimony.

Prosecutors allege Bianca's father, D'Andre Lane, fatally beat the child with a duct tape-covered paddle because he was upset she wet herself, used a 45-minute window to dispose of her body and concocted a tale of an armed carjacking to account for her disappearance.

The father of seven children by seven women is charged with first-degree felony murder and child abuse. He faces mandatory life in prison if convicted.

Bianca Jones jury deliberates fate of father accused of killing 2-yr-old daughter
October 11, 2012

DETROIT — A guilty verdict against D’Andre Lane, 32, of Detroit for the murder his 2-year-old daughter, Bianca Jones, is not a sure thing for the prosecution.

Lane's fate could be learned as early as Thursday when the jury is expected to begin deliberating at 9:30 a.m.

A guilty verdict would mean a life sentence.

There is no body or admission of guilt. The physical evidence is limited and the dead child's mother, Banika Jones, 32, believes her daughter is still alive.

Prosecutors drew attention to what evidence they had as they jury prepared to come to its conclusion.

Wayne County Assistant Prosecutor Qiana Lillard asked the jury to remember Bianca's pillow, which had remnants of the child's blood; the cadaver dogs that alerted on the car she was last in with her father; and the 45-minute time lapse between the last time Lane was seen and when he police were called.

Lane told police the blood on his daughter's pillow was from an injury she suffered when she fell and bumped her head.
During the night before her death, Bianca Jones had a bed-wetting accident, prosecutors theorize. For this, she was beaten, which the jury learned through statements made by another of Lane's children soon after Bianca's vanishing.

Bianca Jones, 2
AP File Photo | Michigan Amber Alert via The Detroit News Police and prosecutors believe Lane fatally beat his child with a stick wrapped with tape and tried to cover up her death by claiming he was carjacked and Bianca Jones abducted.

In reality, the prosecution believes Lane took the dead child from his home and disposed of her remains in an incinerator.

During the prosecution's rebuttal to the defense's closing statements Wednesday, Lillard whacked a table with the suspected murder weapon, a stick wrapped on one end with black tape.

"He beat her to death with this cudgel," Lillard said, waving the stick before the jury. "He wants to call it a paddle. I think it's a cudgel. A cudgel is a stick made for no purpose other than a weapon, and anyone who has to make a weapon to spank their children to potty train them is a child abuser.
 ::snipping2::
Lane's attorney, Terry Johnson, said his client may be a "punk" for not doing more to save his daughter, but he is no killer.

Johnson pointed to the discovery of a ski mask and footprints documented near where Lane said the carjacking occurred as evidence that something may have happened there.

Lillard said the timeline doesn't add up. Lane was driving to Banika Jones' home and spoke with an old neighborhood friend not far from his destination.

This was 45 minutes before the alleged abduction, which occurred near the same area.

Prosecutors believe it's during this time periond that Lane disposed of Bianca Jones' body.
::snipping2::Banika jones, who's known Lane for 20 years and deems him one of her best friends, said there is no hard evidence that her daughter is gone. She clings to hope that her daughter is still alive.

When the jury returns to the courtroom, Banica Jones hopes it's to deliver a "not guilty" verdict or an acquittal.

Defense: Bianca Jones' father 'acted like a little punk,' but he didn't kill her
October 11, 2012

A jury is to begin deliberations today in the case against D'Andre Lane, who is accused of killing his 2-year-old daughter.

The girl, Bianca Jones, disappeared in December and has not been found, despite searches that included dozens of volunteers in the days after her disappearance.

Lane, 32, is charged with first-degree child abuse and first-degree murder. He faces life in prison without parole if convicted of the murder charge.

Attorneys presented closing arguments Wednesday in front of Wayne County Circuit Judge Vonda Evans.

Saying that Lane killed Bianca, Wayne County Assistant Prosecutor Carin Goldfarb spoke to the improbability that a carjacker abducted the girl.
"Ladies and gentleman, Bianca Jones is dead -- and he killed her," Goldfarb said. "And he threw away her body with the garbage. Carjackers do not leave the car and take the baby."

Yet Defense attorney Terry Johnson said the prosecution's story ignores key evidence.

"I ask you to walk through the evidence with me," Johnson said to the jury Wednesday. "They want to ignore all of the evidence that would exonerate Mr. Lane."

Prosecutors said Lane killed Bianca after a potty-training accident. Lane told police Dec. 3 he spanked Bianca on her buttocks and legs with a paddle he made with a wooden stick and duct tape on Dec. 1. He called Detroit police the next day, saying he was carjacked in the area of Brush and West Grand Boulevard and the perpetrator took his Mercury Marquis with Bianca in the backseat.

Police found Lane's car running several blocks from the site, but the toddler was missing.

During the trial, the prosecution laid out a case that included testimony from a cadaver dog trainer from England, who testified that his K9 alerted on Lane's car and Bianca's car seat. But defense lawyers questioned the claims because Bianca's body has not been found.

On Tuesday, a Detroit police officer testified a local scent dog picked up a trail from the car and led investigators to a ski mask in a vacant building nearby. Defense lawyers countered that police did not collect the mask or other evidence from the site.

Assistant Prosecutor Qiana Lillard questioned what Lane was doing during the 45-minute gap between the time when he said he was carjacked and when he reported it.

Johnson acknowledged that there was no evidence Lane tried to fight off the alleged carjackers, but said that was not proof that Lane killed his daughter.

"I'm not here trying to make Mr. Lane 'Father of the Year,' " Johnson said. "Just because he acted like a little punk and acted a little scared and screamed, 'My baby!' doesn't make him guilty."
