Jorelys was last seen at about 5:30 p.m. Friday at a playground at her Canton-area apartment complex, River Ridge. She was being watched by a teenage girl, who also watching several other children, Det. Worthy said Saturday morning.

The teenage girl went back to an apartment to get drinks for the kids. When she returned, Jorelys was gone, Det. Worthy said.

Jorelys is said to be about 3-feet-tall and weighs about 80 pounds. She was last seen wearing a pink shirt, blue jeans and black boots.

CANTON, Ga. - After nearly 30 hours of searching, state and local authorities in Canton are considering the disappearance of a 7-year-old girl to be abduction.

Jorelys was last seen at about 5:30 p.m. Friday at a playground at her Canton-area apartment complex, River Ridge. She was being watched by a teenage girl, who also watching several other children, said Canton Police Detective Candy Worthy.

The teenage girl went back to an apartment to get drinks for the kids. When she returned, Jorelys was gone, Det. Worthy said.
With absolutely no leads coming in, Canton police decided Saturday afternoon to begin investigating Jorelys' case as abduction. Authorities searched with canines and helicopters Saturday, and went door-to-door.

"We have probation officers and deputies speaking with the local sex offenders in the area to rule all of them out," Det. Worthy said. "We are also working with the school system and the family to learn more about the child's friends."

Meantime, the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services has taken Joselin Rivera's two other children into custody. They say this is not related to the case of Jolerys, and was done after searching the home.

CANTON, Georgia –  Authorities in Canton, Georgia say they believe that a 7-year-old girl missing since Friday afternoon may have been abducted.

Police and volunteers were out Saturday searching around the apartment complex where Jorely Rivera was last seen. Probation officers and deputies also canvassed the area for registered sex offenders.

Investigators were also working with school officials to compile a list of family and friends the girl knows.

Because she's been gone for so long with no solid clues surfacing, police are now working on the theory that Rivera was abducted and taken from the area. But they can't be sure.

"We don't think the child's mother had anything to do with her disappearance at this point," Det. Worthy wrote in an e-mail.

She said the mother has two other children, who were taken into protective custody by DFCS as a precaution.

"We just think that she was not supervising well enough to keep all of the children safe," Det. Worthy wrote.

No eyewitnesses have come forward, so police haven't been able to issue a Levi's Call, which requires a confirmed abduction. Police don't have a description of a person or car involved in her disappearance.
 

They may need to go door to door searching each apt in the complex.

I am a little confused.....(not unusual, lol) but I have seen two stories. One said that Jorelys left the playground to go get drinks for everyone at the apartment. The other story from media said that the babysitter left the playground to go get drinks in the apartment for the kids.

Does anyone know what the correct story is? It would make more sense if Jorelys was the one to leave the playground area since no one saw anything.

Search continues for missing 7-year-old Canton girl

Police and other searchers were using the parking lot of Carmike Cinemas Riverstone as a staging area Sunday, said Detective Candy Worthy.

Search crews Sunday were focusing on two nearby apartment complexes and surrounding wooded areas.

"Here we are getting into the 48-hour mark [and] enough's enough -- we've got to get something and that's why we're out here now and we'll be out here as long as it takes," Jeff Hall with Canton police told Channel 2 Action News.

The weight of 80 pounds sounds way off too for a first grader. She looks to be of average size. I doubt she weighs more than 65 pounds, if that.

I don't know Lab. I wish we could save them all. I could blame it on many things. One comes to mind......DRUGS. We have generations of Drug Users now....and the cycle just continues with their children. (I am not saying this is the case with this family)

So heartbroken too that this beautiful baby girl is not with us anymore. It makes absolutely no sense and it is so frustrating that our children have become prey to sick ass people.

Missing 7-year-old's body found in Dumpster

News Chopper 2 flew over the field, where authorities removed the body from a pile of trash. Georgia Bureau of Investigation director Vernon Keenan said the child was badly beaten and sexually assaulted.

 Jorelys Rivera vanished Friday around 5:30 p.m. from a playground in the River Ridge apartment complex where she lived. On Saturday, Canton police said they were considering the case as a possible child abduction. Two days later, the FBI and Georgia Bureau of Investigation joined the massive search until the discovery was made shortly before 1:30 p.m. Monday.

During the search, investigators said the child's family was being cooperative, but police said they had not ruled anyone out as a person of interest. They said they searched the family's apartment and vehicle.

Police said Jorelys left the playground and went back home to get drinks for her friends but say she never returned after she left her apartment. Investigators said that they found soda cans behind an apartment building and were analyzing them for any information.

Willis spoke with two children who were with Jorelys minutes before she disappeared.

 "Her sister was playing with her but then, she went inside because she was cold so, Jorelys was out there by herself," said Marco Portillo.
