Ex-Philadelphia Daily News columnist Bill Conlin hanging in limbo
August 16, 2012

When Bill Conlin abruptly resigned from the Philadelphia Daily News in December after his niece and three other people said they were sexually abused by the veteran sports columnist, his attorney said Conlin had “engaged me to do everything possible to bring facts forward to vindicate his name.”

But in a recent interview with the Daily News, the attorney said it has been difficult to prove Conlin’s innocence because he hangs in limbo – never charged, never convicted, never cleared. Because of statute of limitations issues, it is unlikely that Conlin will ever face criminal charges or civil litigation linked to the allegations.

Conlin’s niece, Kelley Blanchet, and the other alleged victims said last year that they were spurred to go public with the allegations because of the sex-abuse scandal that cost iconic football coach Joe Paterno his job at Penn State. They told the Philadelphia Daily News that they also wanted to bring attention to the shortcomings of the statute of limitations on sex crimes.

Authorities in Gloucester County, N.J., reportedly found the allegations credible. The Philly Daily News quoted an email from a detective to one of the alleged victims that said “we would love to see justice in this case…but our hands are tied by the law, which does not let us prosecute.”

Wow.  Ego much?

I'll just bet he's enjoying his retirement.  Especially if its in the Dominican Republic where poverty is a way of life.  Bet finding little girls to molest is a bit easier when you've got cash to throw at those trying to just survive day to day.
