Mary Hamer seems to e as volatile and unstable as Joran.  First she sends the money and tells them to use the money for bail, or in any way they see fit.  Then she demands it back, giving them an ultimatum, that if it is not returned by a certain date/time, she will notify the media.  And she does just that - tells the media all about the money and the perks Joran had at Castro Castro.

I have put my entire day on hold.  Turned down an invite for a cuppa tea and an apple fritter at our Tim Hortons.  It is 3:00 PM in Peru.  Any Peruvian media reports in regards to a press conference by Ricardo Flores (attorney)?  Grace?  Northern Rose?

It was a given prior to the sentencing that Mary Hamer would never see her $75,000 again.  A $75,000 judgement against Joran van der Sloot?  Coincidence?  I don't think so.

Mary Hamer who obviously has issues was taken advantage of big-time and ... it will happen again if there is no professional counselling.

Van der Sloot Sentenced to 28 Years
Friday, Jan. 13, 2012

(LIMA, Peru) — A Peruvian court on Friday sentenced Joran van der Sloot to 28 years in prison for murder of a young woman he met at a Lima casino, even as the family of U.S. teenager Natalee Holloway sought to have him prosecuted in the U.S. over her disappearance in 2005.

The decision comes two days after the young Dutchman pleaded guilty to killing Stephany Flores, a 21-year-old business student.

The court also ordered him to pay $75,000 in reparations to the family of the 21-year-old victim.

“Professional Poker Player” Van Der Sloot Gets 28 Year Sentence
January 16, 2012

Self-described professional poker player Joran Van Der Sloot has been sentenced to 28 years in prison after he was found guilty of the murder of Stephany Flores, who he met while travelling in Peru.

It has been speculated that Van Der Sloot had travelled to Lima to play in the Latin American Poker Tour and had met Flores in the Peruvian capital’s main casino shortly before the time of her death.

Though listing poker as a full-time occupation, Van Der Sloot does not have any major live tournament results listed in any online database, though he has been known to travel around the world to take part in events.

He is also no stranger to police inquiry, having previously been listed as the prime suspect in the disappearance of Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway in 2005 and been held by detectives twice for questioning during the investigation.

Joran Van der Sloot would be declared void sentence
Monday, January 16, 2012, 9:12 p.m.

Joran is the verdict of the Peruvian court, who sentenced Friday to 28 years in prison for the murder of Stephany Flores, be declared invalid. His lawyer, Jose Navarro Jiménez, said that he agreed with Van der Sloot has come.
The need for counsel to the Peruvian Supreme Court annulled. Therefore he founded a letter within ten days to the highest legal authority for this type of control in Peru. "The judges have not his first confession valued," the lawyer argues.

The lawyer is expected by April confirmation as to get the Supreme Court. The annulment is different from an appeal that Jimenez also considered. This would serve the same court and could only lead to a lower punishment.

Obviously, Joran is unhappy!

At least he can't appeal his own decision to plead guilty!

His ship is sinking and he's scrambling to get off.  I don't expect anything to come out of these appeals, except to keep his name in the media, and delay his extradition to the US.

It appears that this delusional/lonely woman whose past involvements/activities indicate she is desperately seeking a sense of self-worth in life has been dispicably used/taken advantaged by Joran and his enablers.  Maybe this experience which has cost Mary Hamer on so many levels will be the catalyst to a new beginning ... a new beginning that includes professional counselling.  It is my hope that Mary Hamer will be reconciled with her family.  At this point in time ... she desperately needs advocates looking out for her best interest.

I agree, they "devalued" that first confession from the time he made it...the usual Joran MO.  Well he can't have it both ways.  Besides that confession was not complete, it was not a "sincere confession" since he LIED; and the computer analysis would have proven that if he had not chosen the speedy route (the route that wouldn't prove ALL OF HIS LIES with the evidence brought forward in a trial) and pleaded guilty.  He knew when he pleaded guilty that he could receive 30 years, and he should just be thankful that he was given two years less!  I really believe a trial may have brought him a life sentence and that's really what he deserved.  POS!

How unusual for judges to not be baffled by a liar.  If there is more than one confession, than go with the evidence and ignore the liar.  Maybe they should send their "I'm no dummy" outline to Aruba.  Silence followed by many lies does not equal innocent.  He didn't confuse me one bit.  I don't know how he baffles Aruba....unless of course they were looking for an out.

Holloway attorney details van der Sloot sting

By Mike Celizic
TODAY.com contributor
updated 6/11/2010 12:58:39 PM ET

Joran van der Sloot was so desperate for money that $100 — with only a promise of more to come — was all he needed to further an FBI sting operation and spark a chain of events that ended with him confessing to a Peruvian woman's savage death, according to the lawyer who provided the funds.

In a TODAY exclusive, John Q. Kelly, an attorney for Natalee Holloway's mother, offered new details about the sting operation that likely allowed van der Sloot to flee Aruba for Peru.

Van der Sloot has been suspected almost from the beginning of being responsible for Natalee Holloway’s disappearance in Aruba five years ago, and Thursday, Peruvian police told NBC News that he admitted knowing the location of Holloway’s remains. They added that he was willing to tell authorities in Aruba where to find the Alabama teenager’s remains.

In March, van der Sloot reached out to Kelly, demanding $250,000 from Holloway’s mother, Beth Holloway Twitty, in exchange for leading Kelly to the teenager’s remains, Kelly told TODAY.

Kelly said that when van der Sloot contacted him, he did not think he was going to learn the truth. His feelings, he said, were, “skepticism, caution, assuming everything he was going to tell me was false — but I had to understandably think that it might be true, also; so approach it very carefully and keep communicating.”

Kelly agreed to meet van der Sloot alone and brought no money — angering the suspect. Kelly then called the FBI to set up a sting, telling TODAY it only took $100 to convince van der Sloot to start talking with him again.

'A win-win situation'
Kelly said he ultimately decided he couldn’t lose by playing along with van der Sloot's demands for money in exchange for revealing the location of Holloway's remains.

“It was a win-win situation. He was either going to pay the money, and if the information turned out to be true, Beth would get closure, she’d bring Natalie home. Assuming it was false, it would be extortion and wire fraud once falsehoods are proven. Either way, he’d be boxed in,” Kelly told TODAY. Kelly said van der Sloot wanted $25,000 up front, with the rest to be provided when the remains were recovered and proven to be Holloway’s, Kelly said.

So Kelly went to Aruba in April to meet with van der Sloot without telling anyone but his own wife and Twitty. He met van der Sloot for about two hours in a hotel.

I believe that Joran does know where Natalee is.  Taco said Aruba would go to Lima, but they never did.  Now, since his sentencing, Aruba says they are going to interview him.  I believe Aruba already knows where Natalee is.

JQK has been indispensable in helping Beth in her fight for Justice for Natalee.  God Bless Him!
