My dad passed away almost 2 years ago from a form of Dementia known as Frontotemporal Dementia.  It was so devastating he went from a very kind and caring daddy to a mean, confused & nasty person within a couple of years.  It got so bad I couldn't be alone with him, he would become physical and we never knew when he would turn on me.

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/frontotemporal-dementia/DS00874

Frontotemporal dementia (frontotemporal lobar degeneration) is an umbrella term for a diverse group of uncommon disorders that primarily affect the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain — the areas generally associated with personality, behavior and language.

In frontotemporal dementia, portions of these lobes atrophy or shrink. Signs and symptoms vary, depending upon the portion of the brain affected. Some people with frontotemporal dementia undergo dramatic changes in their personality and become socially inappropriate, impulsive or emotionally indifferent, while others lose the ability to use and understand language.

Frontotemporal dementia is often misdiagnosed as a psychiatric problem or as Alzheimer's disease. But frontotemporal dementia tends to occur at a younger age than does Alzheimer's disease, typically between the ages of 40 and 70.

Frontotemporal dementia involve extreme changes in behavior and personality. These include:

Increasingly inappropriate actions
Loss of empathy and other interpersonal skills
Lack of judgment and inhibition
Apathy
Repetitive compulsive behavior
A decline in personal hygiene
Changes in eating habits, predominantly overeating
Lack of awareness of thinking or behavioral changes

How awful for you and your Dad, Babs!  I'm sorry for the pain and dismay your Dad's illness must have caused you.   an angelic monkey

Thank you Can, yes it was a trying time especially not understanding what was happening to him because it wasn't really a memory issue and there is so little information out there except for Alzhimers.

Bearly, so glad you got a doctor that you like thats so important when you find a doctor that you are comfortable with.  Now you need to take care of you!

I had a Bakers cyst on the back of my leg several years back, Dr. said it would go away on its own time, one morning it was just gone.

I am not sure if I can ask this question, or rather I should say, if anyone has permission to answer the question, but where does Trimmy live?  I am thinking she is up in the northwestern part of Alabama?  I was just curious as to how we can find out if she is okay - maybe just internet or PC issues?

We are okay here - no bad weather in the Ham.

Good to see you Brandi, I sure hope that 4 Donks and Trimm are safe. I saw the storms on the tv in the cafeteria and was worried to bits about them. Trying to catch up, it has been a crazy week.

Northwest Alabama I do believe Caddy. I remember her posting a video of the town after the tornado last year. She I think had been to the Walmart that morning and saw it coming towards the town.

The wind was pretty rough here today but haven't heard of any damage.

GE did loose her power for about 20 minutes and now her Hughes satellite is out again.  Hopefully it won't take a week to get her back up again as it has the last couple of times its gone out!

It was 82 here yesterday and sunny.  Today sunny, high in the 50's.  Weather is crazy this year.

GE was on the phone till after midnight with Hughes .....They have the worst service ever.......Hoping she gets someone out today if she raises enough stink.

Guess we both need to upgrade to a fancy phone cause texting is for the birds on our little flip phones.

We have about 4 inches of snow and it is still coming down. Stuck with the kids having a snow day. Which I guess works out since I am valiantly trying to fight off a cold and losing. Nap for mommy today!
Hope you feel better TBM, wish we had a snow day or two around here. We are going to have one heck of a summer with the bugs here this year.

No kidding JSM, the cats have been bringing in the baby snakes for the last week or so and spiders and creepy crawlies are everywhere.

Snakes?????? Rattlesnake Roundup is this weekend in Sweetwater. My BFF is from there, she wanted me to go with her, NO WAY!!!!!!!!!

Here you go JSM.......wild cherry
4 Donks, this photo brings back such happy and warm memories.  When I was a child, my brother and I would play in the woods from dawn to dusk.  Oh the adventures we had.  The blooming of the wild cherry trees meant summer was acoming and more time for our adventures.  It is so regretable that today responsible parents would not let their children roam free in most parts of the world.  Oh, the adventures they are missing.  Our imaginations were our toys and we could make wonderful things out of dirt -- like dirt marbles which Mom would bake in the oven.  The list is long and beautiful.  Thanks for transporting me back to those incredible times.  Think I'll call my brother right now.
Sister, what beautiful memories, never heard of dirt marbles. That would have been so fun to make as a kid, but my sister and I would probably just throw them at each other and pop one of our eyes out.  Praying you are doing well.  an angelic monkey

Babybear, how many thousands did you win????

JSM, how is Patton making out?  Hope all is well.

Morning everyone, stay blessed.
Sister, thank you for asking. Patton is doing well and is not really having any complications with his surgery.
Good morning Monkeys.
Well.....Um..... Let's just say I didn't win.  Like I lost $120.  But we had a great time.
Harrah's casinos have Paula Deen restaurants.  At least they do in Cherokee and Tunica. I have eaten a couple of times at her Savannah restaurant.  It's really bad.  But the casino ones are great.  Shrimp and grits to die for.  And really wonderful room service breakfasts.  So I might have lost dollars, but I must have gained pounds.

Glad Patton is doing well.  He's a beautiful dog.  Charlie has now developed dry eye. Two more medications.  This is what he has so far.  A heart problem, diabetes, removed cataracts, glaucoma and dry eye.  Four eye medications and one heart tablet. Fortunately, my vet doesn't mind keeping him and giving him all these medications when I go away.  But I love him (Charlie, not the vet) and will do whatever it takes.  He makes me happy.  (Charlie, not the vet.  LOL)

Sister, hope you're doing well. Probably if you don't take that three-legged dog, no one will.  But it's your call, of course. I'm just a sucker for dogs.

Didn't know Paula Deen had restaraunts in casinos. That is cool. Sorry you lost money Baby.

Thanks for saying Patton is a beautiful dog. He is beautiful inside and out as all dogs!! I am sorry Charlie is having more problems, he is so lucky to have you as a fur mommy.

Good morning Monkeys!

Anyone watching the debate tonight?  Anyone feeling discouraged with the candidates?
There are rumours the GOP might put up another candidate and the nominee could be decided at a convention.
Hey Can.... I watched the first of it, can't stand CNN so I turned it off.

I nominate STEPHEN HARPER!!! Can we please have him Can?????

I have read about a brokered convention, not sure what will happen.

You are too cute!  Wish we could share!  alas Stephen is ours!
Too bad Can we really need him or someone like him.  an angelic monkey

Bearly!  How are you and yours?

Hanging in.  I have a bit of a cold and my Mom can't use the washer and dryer on her floor this week.  For some reason that means I have to go and do the wash there.  I sometimes do it anyway, but this week I have to.

Sorry Bearly you have a cold, very sorry you have to do her laundry. She is blessed to have such a wonderful daughter.  an angelic monkey

Bearly!  How are you and yours?

Hanging in.  I have a bit of a cold and my Mom can't use the washer and dryer on her floor this week.  For some reason that means I have to go and do the wash there.  I sometimes do it anyway, but this week I have to.

Look after your cold.
Does that mean you have to take the laundry to another floor and do it?

Yes.  My Mom has an elevator right outside her room, there is only 2 floors, the laundry room is across from the elevator on both floors, and she has an electric wheelchair and the wash fits on it upstairs where she is.   The floor is being tiled this week, Monday to Friday.  She didn't do the wash this weekend because she said my Dad was in a bad mood Saturday so she didn't visit him on Sunday and didn't take his wash either Saturday or Sunday (I have a feeling she did not see him on Saturday either).  He is in the medical part of the facility.  My Mom is a nurse and visits her friends no matter what mood they are in.  I don't like being taken advantage of, especially when I have my own doctor upset with the amount I have been doing for her.  She manages to do a lot of social activities and she volunteers for others, but not my Dad.

Sorry to complain, but I feel like I am stuck between a rock and a hard place.  She wants me to come every day and take the wash home with me, but there is no reason to do that.  I also have my Son and his appointments to go to and my eye doctor appointment.  My car got hit almost a month ago and I have not had time to take it to get fixed.

Rant over.

Bearly, you need to take care of yourself, the laundry can wait. Wish I was up there so I could help you with your mom or doing chores and stuff for you.

For Bearly- you rant on, that is what we are here for.  I feel your pain of being in a rock and a hard place with your parents.  As for the laundry, is it really about you coming to do the laundry or is it she just wants to give someone directives?  I don't know in your situation but I have found often times it is not the task at hand but control of one another.

4donks is right- take care of yourself first.

We just found out that Mom is going to be moved from the memory care over to Assisted Living maybe this week. That is one of the first things she asked me was who was going to do her laundry.  (I wanted to say maybe she didn't need to be moving then if she can't take care of it herself?)
an angelic monkey Caddy, you and your family are in my prayers. Glad she is moving to the assisted living. Seems like when my grandma was in assisted living, they did her laundry. I guess that your mom is in a fancier place than my grandmas. Hope and pray she is happy, healthy and safe in her new digs.  an angelic monkey

Rant over.

Prayers heading your way Bearly. an angelic monkey
I am going to add my rant to yours. Where is Bearly in all this ? If you don't take care of yourself you won't be able to take care of anyone else......time to put Bearly 1st for a bit.

Thanks 4Donks!  I see what you are saying and I totally agree, however, where does that leave my Dad who is totally helpless in all this?

Bearly, I pray for your dad and I know how helpless he is. Makes me sad that you are being pulled like Stretch Armstrong. Just do what you can and don't over do it, your health is VERY important. Cubby NEEDS you!! Love you Bearly, I am very worried about you.

I hear you, I hope things get straightened out for you.  Thanks for permission to rant.  I know all about the control thing, unfortunately, my Dad was the one who helped my son and I with his autism, he went to therapy sessions with us and meetings and knew everyone working with him, and he is the one that would suffer in all of this.

Bearly, you are blessed with a loving dad that helped you and Cubby with therapy sessions. You are doing the best you can for all of them, truly you are. I so wish I could be there for you at least to help out with your dad or Cubby or just do the laundry. I am so sad I have been busy and not been here for you.
