Oh, now, I'm disappointed, Jeff.  The young man drank and drove.  You should just let him take his licks like a man.

Caylee Anthony bill moving in Florida House
Posted on Tuesday, 02.14.12

The Associated Press

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- A bill inspired by 2-year-old Caylee Anthony's death is moving in the Florida House after being changed to match the Senate's version.

The bill (HB 37) that won unanimous approval Tuesday from the House Justice Appropriations Subcommittee no longer sets deadlines for parents to report a child missing or dead.

Police say that could result in unintended consequences.

Instead, it increases the maximum penalty from a year in jail to five years in prison for knowingly making a false statement to police about a missing child.

What's the difference in Jeff doing this and Cindy lying for KC?  NONE.  This will not go over well with voters.  I'm surprised someone hasn't pointed this out to Jeff.  But then again, people tried to talk Cindy out of defending KC and we see how that went over.

Florida Supreme Court ruling limits Belvin Perry's term as chief judge
By Anthony Colarossi, Orlando Sentinel
6:08 p.m. EST, February 13, 2012

 ::snipping2::
Speaking from Tallahassee Monday, Perry said he was "totally shocked," "bewildered" and "personally hurt" by the high court's ruling.

He questions the Supreme Court's rationale, which was not spelled out in the ruling. Perry also expressed concern about the choice of locally elected judges, who select the circuit chiefs, being stripped and limited by the order.
 ::snipping2::

Good morning, Monkeys.

IMO, because Perry lied to the FBI about his affair with a court employee, and even having the affair, he is morally unfit to even be a judge, much less a chief judge.  Also, IMO his much vaunted knowledge of the law is easy to have if one has a laptop on the bench and an app to look up the law with the click of the mouse. Some of the rulings he made in the Anthony case were disgraceful.  As an example, he didn't allow the prosecution to have the jury take a whiff of the cans with a piece of the auto trunk carpet in them because he didn't "Want the jury to become witnesses."  Yet, he did allow the jury to smell the old Velveeta wrapper, in effect becoming witnesses for the defense.  His leniency with Baez was astonishing and his threats were empty.  He took no action after the trial as he had said he would do.  He is a big fake.  I hope his term is even shortened and the good people of his circuit fail to reelect him. I wouldn't vote for him for dog catcher.  It would be unfair to the dogs.

Lawmakers Propose Bill Inspired By Casey Anthony Trial
Posted: Feb 14, 2012 2:55 PM CST Updated: Feb 14, 2012 2:55 PM CST

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- State lawmakers have begun to debate a bill inspired by last summer's Casey Anthony murder trial.
 ::snipping2::
Representative Tony Shipley is pushing a bill that to make it a felony for a parent, legal guardian, or caretaker who does not notify law enforcement about the disappearance of a child within 24 hours. Right now in Tennessee there are no laws on the books that penalize a parent for not reporting a missing child.

"Parents need to be responsible for their children. If a child goes missing, they need to report that, to authorities quick enough. Studies show that if a child goes missing for 24 hours, the likelihood of them being found is practically zero," said Shipley.

Covering and investigating cases on a National level, I had to make the obvious time- management choice in my work.

Caylee Marie Anthony was my flagship case, and that sweet baby will continue to shape my thoughts and direction like a compass.

I was dumbfounded by the verdict in that case, second only to Mr. Ashton's flagrant arrogance since.

I cannot tell you how it pains me to say that.

Congratulations to Mr. Ashton on his "Stepford" Attorney status.

ps. When running for public office, do not refer to your publications that augmented your income.  I do not disparage Jeff for writing on the Anthony case, I find it incredibly condescending to address the public in a bid for public office where the quote..

GOP lawmaker proposes Caylee's law for Georgia

ATLANTA (AP) - A Republican lawmaker wants to allow prosecutors to bring charges against parents who do not quickly report missing children.

Rep. B.J. Pak of Lilburn filed a bill Tuesday called "Caylee Anthony's Law." It was inspired by the acquittal last year in Florida of Casey Anthony on murder charges.

Casey Anthony: ‘The Office’ lists her in Florida warning
Caylee and Casey Anthony, NBC, WESH — posted by halboedeker on February, 14 2012 5:11 PM

Do the people at “The Office” have a fascination with the Casey Anthony case?

In last week’s episode of the NBC sitcom, Dwight (Rainn Wilson) tried to discourage co-workers from accompanying him to Florida on a business trip. As part of a Florida orientation, in a hot conference room filled with mosquitoes, he lectured about things to be aware of in Florida.

Decorating the wall behind him were pictures of hurricanes, a cockroach, alligators and Casey Anthony.

Good morning, Monkeys---

Blink, you are right.  I also found it to be condescending when Ashton said that everything he does is above reproach.  Like Caesar's wife, I guess.  IMO he went from a fairly decent Asst. DA to a man much impressed with himself.  As to why you know you are watching a socio/science experiment, you likely are.  I think he has blown any chance he had of winning an election.  Most people don't like such arrogance in a public servant.  I certainly don't.

I ordered Ashton's book before it was published as did many others.  When it arrived, I had already seen some of his interviews.  Somehow, I no longer wanted to read his book, although I read many books during the course of a year.  It still sits on my coffee table, unread.  I can't exactly explain it, even to myself.

As Kittymom said, Jeff can no longer criticize the Anthonys' defense of Casey because he is doing the exact same thing with his son, although not on so large a scale.

I know many of you have commented on the report about my representation of my son. No, he doesn't.  I wonder how many times he prosecuted cases that involved someone under the influence of alcohol?  He son might just as easily have wrecked his auto as been stopped by LE.  Would he still be defending a 21 yr old man if he had killed someone that night?  No, Alexander Ashton did not murder his daughter.  But he could just have easily killed someone else's child while drinking and driving.  For Jeff, as a former officer of the law and seeking public office to want to excuse away his son's accountability is not any different than Cindy Anthony trying to excuse away her daughter's actions.  The question of where Cindy should have drawn the line with KC was asked many times over the past few years.  Now the question for Jeff Ashton to ask himself is where is he willing to draw that same line within his own family.
