Steve Jobs' wrong choice of cancer treatment 'led to unnecessarily early death': Expert
October 15, 2011

LONDON: Apple's visionary leader Steve Jobs ruined his health by shunning conventional medicine in favour of alternative remedies, a leading cancer doctor has claimed.

According to Dr Ramzi Amri, a researcher at Harvard Medical School, Jobs had a mild form of cancer that is rarely fatal and that his choice of treatment 'eventually led to an unnecessarily early death'.

"Let me cut to the chase - Jobs allegedly chose to undergo all sorts of alternative treatment options before opting for conventional medicine," Dr Amri wrote in a forum.

Steve Jobs Memorial Held
October 17, 2011

STANFORD, Calif.—Hundreds of Silicon Valley's elite streamed into Stanford University's Memorial Church on Sunday evening for a service commemorating Apple Inc.'s late co-founder Steve Jobs.

Guests, many of whom were wearing black, arrived amid intense security with guards stationed near the main gate of the university's campus.

The event, which comes ahead of a company memorial scheduled for Wednesday, was shrouded in the secrecy that has come to be associated with both Jobs and Apple. Passersby who inquired about the service were told simply that the area would be closed for six to eight hours for a private event.

Executives from throughout the technology and media industries were expected to attend.

A walkway in front of the church, which sits near a sculpture garden, was illuminated with small white lights. The weather was crisp and cool, and guests were served hors d'oeuvres in a clearing adjacent to the church.

The service was expected to be followed by a reception on campus, according to invitees.

"Steve Jobs," by Walter Isaacson, will be published Monday by Simon & Schuster. The Associated Press purchased a copy Thursday. The biography has topped best-seller lists since Jobs died Oct. 5 after a long battle with cancer. He was 56.

The book was originally called "iSteve" and scheduled to come out in March 2012. The release date was moved up to November, then, after Jobs' death, to this coming Monday. Isaacson interviewed Jobs more than 40 times, including just a few weeks before his death.

Steve Jobs refused life-saving surgery, 60 Minutes says

Steve Jobs refused a surgery that could have saved his life, his biographer said in a 60 Minutes interview.

The Apple CEO died earlier this month after a long fight with pancreatic cancer. Some have speculated that Jobs could have lived longer had he sought the treatment of modern medicine, but this is the first time someone close to Jobs has said he avoided treatment.

In the interview, biographer Walter Isaacson says that Jobs refused surgery when he first heard he had a tumor.

The full interview will be shown Sunday on CBS.

Confirmed: Steve Jobs Worked on Apple Until His Last Day
October 19, 2011

 ::snipping2::
During an interview with U.S. Ambassador to Japan John Roos, Son talked about his relationship to Apple and Jobs, and revealed an interesting series of events during the launch of the iPhone 4S.

Son said, "I visited Apple for the announcement of the iPhone 4S [at Apple headquarters in Cupertino, California]. When I was having a meeting with Tim Cook, he said, 'Oh Masa, sorry I have to quit our meeting.' I said, 'Where are you going?' He said, 'My boss is calling me.' That was the day of the announcement of the iPhone 4S. He said that Steve is calling me because he wants to talk about their next product. And the next day, he died."

Recounting the episode, Son was visibly touched by the Apple co-founder's passion and drive. He went on to say, "Even one day before he passed away, the first subject he wanted to call Tim Cook about…he wanted to talk about the next product… That's the kind of spirit a true entrepreneur would continue to have until they die. He was very sick, very ill. But the announcement of their newest product made him live longer. Physically he could have died much earlier. But his passion, his love for his own company and dream, about the next products, that made him energized."

No Steve Jobs doll: Company blames family -- and Apple lawyers
January 16, 2012

A Chinese company has apparently called off plans to sell an action figure made in the likeness of the late Apple founder and tech wizard Steve Jobs, saying it was responding to pressure from Apple lawyers, as well as from the Jobs family.

A statement on the In Icons website said the doll was intended as an homage to Jobs, who died in October at 56 after a career spent changing the face of movies, music, computers and more. The company said it believed that its figurine would have survived any legal challenges.

But in the end, In Icons said, it decided to stop production on the potential collectors item -- which would have sold for $99.99 -- because the Jobs family was said to be so distraught over it.
