Anchorage police have reason to believe that missing 18-year-old Samantha Koenig is alive, according to a detective investigating her apparent abduction about five weeks ago.

Anchorage police have reason to believe that missing 18-year-old Samantha Koenig is alive, according to a detective investigating her apparent abduction about five weeks ago.

While police have revealed few details about the investigation since Koenig vanished Feb. 1 -- they say she was seen frightened in surveillance video as an armed man forced her from a Midtown coffee hut about 8 p.m. -- the team of detectives on the case is working hard to find her, said Sgt. Slawomir Markiewicz, the head of the police department's Homicide Unit.

The team has interviewed more than 100 people and followed up on about 400 tips, Markiewicz said. They've been making progress on a daily basis and still hope to find Koenig unharmed, Markiewicz said.

"I'm privy to the details of the investigation, and I believe that she's alive," Markiewicz said.

In profanity-laden Facebook posts, Bird has blamed James Koenig for Samantha's disappearance, an assertion Koenig says is false.

 Markiewicz, the detective, said the investigation has not turned up any information indicating the abduction is related to James Koenig. Markiewicz would not say if Bird is a suspect or has been cleared in the investigation. The nasty dialogue between Bird's supporters and Koenig's was a distraction, Markiewicz said.

 "Our main focus is finding Samantha, finding her alive, and that's what we're focused on," the detective said. "That's why we're dedicating all of our resources to that. There are a lot of other things happening. But we have to maintain the focus and stay the course."

From what I've read, Christopher “Whyte Tyson” Bird is a freak and he would be #1 on my suspect list
I'm going to trust the dad regarding Duane.  Let's keep his last name out of our forum as long as we can.

I was wondering though, anyone know where Duane's dad is?  Is the the one who has a "background" with LE?  What if Duane's dad wanted to get "even" with Duane or take something he loved from him?  Just thinking out loud.

I agree about CB, he would be my #1 just from what I have seen so far.

I checked out Duane and his bio dad in court records. Duane Jr just has some minor traffic violations. I have found nothing out of the ordinary with Duane Junior.
Duane Sr however had a whole laundry list of court dockets. Some I couldn't understand but I did go through about 25 of them. The charges ranged from a long term stalking charge against him (dismissed) on 4/11, Theft 2nd degree in 1998, Shoplifting in 1990, Robbery 1991, Class C felony, wreckless driving, failure to stop when instructed by a LE officer in 2004, and a dissolution of marriage. There are other charges but I didn't understand what the charges meant.
I am still looking to see if he is incarcerated now or in another state. That is an interesting thought that maybe Sr wanted to hurt Jr in some way and it could certainly be a possibility. It would explain the tight lips by LE and Duane Jr.

I want to trust LE, but here we are more than a month into it and nothing has surfaced.

KTVA reporters tweeting last night about a major crime investigation in the Turnagain Arm area of Anchorage, Clay Products Drive.  APD would neither confirm or deny that had to do with Samantha Koenig.  Have heard nothing so far this morning.

Long time no see everybody! Reading on BlackBerry for months but not able to reply while gone working!  With all the little bits I have read like Sam stealing money (allegedly) and LE not showing footage of her being taken (allegedly) and other things that maybe this is a staged incident?  Just throwing that out there.  I get the feeling that there is an urgency to find her but that she isn't in danger.  I dunno, those who remember me know I am usually wrong but I just get a hinky feeling on this case.  I hope I am right because that would mean she is okay.

   I remember you melisb!   Long time no see!  I'm glad you're able to post with us again.  There are some strange things about Samantha's MP case imo.  I wonder what's in the video footage that's not being released?

No problem.  Don't want to be rude, but to me it looked like this is a little higher socio-economic area.  Houses in the 250,000 to 400,000 range I think.

melisb,I remember you. There are reasons that I try to only post facts and not much speculation on this case.....
 
Muffy Bee, one thing that APD has said about not releasing the tape has to do with "prosecuting the case", or words to that effect.   Things that make me go hmmmmmmm......

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

A man arrested Tuesday at the Lufkin Cotton Patch parking lot has been connected to an Alaska abduction, according to Anchorage Police.

Police say Tuesday's arrest of Israel Keyes is directly connected to that abduction, but Koenig is still missing.

Keyes is being held in a federal facility in Beaumont. The federal arrest warrant is sealed, so details related to the charges will not be released.

Authorities still need help in finding Koenig. Anyone who has been in contact with Keyes or his business, Keyes Construction, since Jan. 1 should call 1-800-CALL-FBI.

Keyes was detained in the parking lot of the restaurant Tuesday afternoon. A DPS trooper pulled him over after he made a traffic violation. Investigators found enough evidence in the vehicle to arrest Keyes for suspected kidnapping.

Israel Keys, a 34-year-old construction contractor who worked under the company moniker Keyes Construction, was arrested in Lufkin on Tuesday. A joint effort between the Anchorage Police Department, the FBI and Texas law enforcement led to Keyes' arrest, the full details of which were not immediately available as police said the federal arrest warrant is sealed.

Court documents filed in the Eastern Texas District Court said that Keyes had been charged with access device fraud, a charge commonly used when someone uses a debit or credit card without the card owner's consent. Also listed in the docket was a criminal complaint based out of Alaska. Keyes was due back in court in Texas early Thursday, according to the most recent filings Thursday evening.

Texas news station KTRE reported that Keyes was arrested in the parking lot of a restaurant after a traffic stop, where a Texas state trooper discovered there was an out-of-state bulletin for Keyes. Police searched the car and "found enough evidence in the vehicle to arrest the driver for suspected kidnapping," KTRE reported.
