ARUBA: It's all about Natalee...we won't give up!

I agree about that article too!

The entire recovery process was impressive imo.

Still wonder what led them to the lake...confession...receipt from being in the immediate area on or around the date of Samantha's abduction...pings from a cellphone?

You monkeys are just the best.....  The article from ADN tells about the FBI divers.  Their dedication and immediate attention to Sam's case blows me away and gives me hope.

Absolutely!

Pamela Koenig Garner (Posted on the Page) Please Help Find Samantha Koenig.
13 hours ago near Anchorage, AK ·

I would like to personally THANK each and everyone of you who showed support (in all different forms) and helped in trying to bring Samantha home to us but more importantly to her Dad, my beloved brother James Koenig. Words can not express how thankful we are. I know this has been a long two months of the not knowing and unfortunately we did not get the outcome we were all praying for. For whatever reason God had other plans for are sweet precious Samantha and needed her up in heaven. I know that she will be sharing her infectious laughter, bubbly personality, kind heart, corky quick witt and her amazing soul with everyone above and will be with us forever in spirit and looking down on us. Our hearts are aching and it is going to be a long road ahead but I ask that you all will please keep my brother in your prayers for strength to help easy the pain of this nightmare. Love to all and THANK YOU again.

I bet her "step brother" feels like a real a@@ now.  All of the bad things he had to say about her.

So many of my questions on this case are answered now.  I have to applaud APD and the FBI, so far it looks like they have done an excellent job.

What a rocket scientist.  He uses her bf's stolen debit card to withdraw money and her phone for a ransom text.  They should just let the bf and dad have at him.

Yeah, Dad and boyfriend would make mincemeat out of him.  I think there are lots of us up here that would love 5 min. alone in a room with him.  There is a feeling that we have all been violated.

Contractor charged with kidnapping, killing Alaska barista

April 19, 2012

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The man suspected of kidnapping an 18-year-old Anchorage barista killed her less than a day after her abduction and then used her cell phone and debit card to demand and obtain ransom money, a federal prosecutor said.

A federal grand jury on Wednesday indicted Israel Keys, 34, owner of a contracting business with himself as the only employee, on charges of kidnapping resulting in death, receiving and possessing ransom money and debit card fraud in the death of Samantha Koenig.

The indictment alleges Keyes forced the teenager from the Common Grounds coffee stand in Anchorage on Feb. 1 and took her to his white pickup truck across the street, assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin Feldis said at a press conference.

"The allegations continue that he confined her and intentionally killed her early the next morning," he said.

The state of Alaska has no death penalty but Feldis said the crime of kidnapping and killing carries that p otential under federal law. Feldis took no questions and did not address whether prosecutors will seek the death penalty. He also did not indicate how Koenig died.

Koenig's family said there was no apparent previous connection between the teen and the suspect.

"The investigation is continuing," said Anchorage Police Department spokesman Dave Parker. "This is just one step in the process."

Keyes will be arraigned on the new charges Thursday morning.

Suspect pleads not guilty in missing barista case

What remained after a barista's abduction from an Anchorage coffee stand were two partially made drinks on a messy counter. Money also was missing. And the 18-year-old was nowhere to be found.

Surveillance footage showed a man forcing Samantha Koenig away from the coffee shack near one of the busiest intersections in Anchorage and to his pickup truck across the street.

Two months after the Feb. 1 abduction, her body was recovered from a frozen lake north of Anchorage.

Federal prosecutors now believe the kidnaping suspect, Israel Keyes, killed Koenig the morning after the kidnapping, then used her cell phone and debit card to demand and obtain ransom money while traveling in several states, prosecutors said.

Keyes, 34, pleaded not guilty Thursday in U.S. District Court to kidnapping resulting in death, receiving and possessing ransom money and debit card fraud.

Overtime Issues Set the Stage for Municipal Service Cuts (KTVA.com Exclusive)
Municipal departments wrangle with ballooning budgets

By Kirsten Swann
Created April 24, 2012, Updated April 25, 2012

 ::snipping2::
The police department will cut back on special enforcements throughout the year in the wake of the all-consuming Koenig investigation. Deputy Chief Steve Smith said it was the nature of the job.

“That is police work, you can’t not investigate it,” he said. “That’s our challenge: Here’s what we’ve got to get done, here’s what we have to do it with.”

Police labor spending, including overtime, topped $17 million over the first three months of 2012 alone.

He said the public safety overtime budgets were one of the most closely scrutinized elements of their work. By going through it early in the year, he said the department would need to cut back on specialized assignments like bike patrols, focused enforcements in high-crime neighborhoods or targeted DUI patrols during holiday weekends.

Putting a temporary hold on special enforcements wouldn’t necessarily mean an upswing in crime rates: Smith said there were no hard numbers tying the two together, and crime rates hinged on everything from economic to demographic factors, too.

But when money becomes tight, the extra patrols and special enforcements will be the first to go.

“We do the best we can and we focus on the things we have to focus on,” Smith said.

James Koenig Joins Search for Missing Airman
Volunteers Fan Out Across Anchorage and Mat-Su

May 4, 2012

James Koenig, father of slain 18 year Samantha Koenig, joined the search for missing 24 year old airman Clinton Reeves, Friday.

Koenig, whose daughter was abducted from a midtown coffee stand and killed this past winter, says it’s his way of repaying the community that helped him.

“I’m passing on everything that we have learned and all the connections that we have in town,” he said in front of the gate to JBER, where volunteers gathered to pick up stacks of fliers, Friday.

“There’s no book on how to do this stuff,” he said.

“I think it’s great he’s reaching out to me. I’m a stranger to him,” said Judy Davis, Reeves’ mom, “he’s coming to help me because he knows what I’m feeling so I’m very thankful,”
