ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Anchorage police say there's little doubt an 18-year-old woman was abducted after she closed up a coffee stand Wednesday night.

Detective Slawomir Markiewicz tells the Anchorage Daily News that surveillance tapes from that night show a man wearing a hooded sweat shirt and possibly a baseball cap approaching the Common Grounds Espresso stand in midtown Anchorage.

The tapes then show Samantha Koenig leaving with the man, who was apparently armed, and walking toward the Old Seward Highway.

Markiewicz says the case has been classified an abduction based on Koenig's demeanor and the man's actions from the tape. More than 20 detectives and other officers are working the case.

Samantha Koenig, 18, who police say was abducted at gunpoint from her espresso stand, had filed for a restraining order against a man.

Her father, James Koenig Jr., said Monday that she was too scared to show up for the hearing.

James Koenig said his daughter hadn't known the man for very long before she sought the restraining order in November. He said he was unsure if the man was still in Anchorage.

The investigation into the disappearance of the young barista is ongoing. Detectives released information that a surveillance camera had shown a man wearing a dark, hooded sweatshirt forcing Samantha Koenig to leave the shack with him on foot at about 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Police still do not know if the abduction was random or if the man in the video knew her.

"Our experience is usually these people are targeted in this type of situation," Anchorage Police Department spokesman Lt. Dave Parker said. Police are aware of Samantha Koenig's attempt to obtain the restraining order.

Robberies at Anchorage's dozens of coffee shacks do occur, Parker said, although he couldn't remember another case where someone was abducted from an espresso stand. These locations are where mostly young women work alone preparing coffee beverages.

A $41,000 reward is being offered and a Facebook account has been set up.

APD spokesperson Lt. Dave Parker says surveillance video from Common Grounds Espresso’s Midtown location shows Koenig being abducted by an armed man on Feb. 1 at closing time, roughly 8 p.m. Parker says heavy snow and winter driving conditions that evening made it difficult for drivers in the area who could have been potential witnesses to recall seeing anything.

Since Koenig's disappearance, several snow events, including more than a foot falling Friday, have created a massive snow berm outside of Common Grounds.

The coffee stand sits inside of the Alaska Club’s Midtown parking lot, at Tudor Road and Fairbanks Street. Denise Brown Robinson, a spokesperson for the club, says company officials decided to bring in a contractor Thursday to remove large amounts of snow to increase Common Grounds’ visibility and security.

The coffee shop is also being used as a staging ground for volunteers trying to located the 18-year-old.

Anchorage police say detectives are making progress in the search for abducted 18-year-old Samantha Koenig but declined to discuss specific details from the case.

Parker said the team of detectives working around the clock on the case has interviewed dozens of people, leading to more interviews and some potential evidence.

No arrests have been made, nor any suspects or persons of interest publicly named. And nobody has reported seeing Koenig for a week. Her last known images exist in surveillance camera footage from the Common Grounds Espresso hut where she worked, in the parking lot of the Alaska Club at 630 E. Tudor Road.

Common Grounds owners Tyler and Michelle Duncan said that the stand was locked up the next morning, but it was messy inside and all the cash was missing. Earlier reports that Koenig left behind her belongings at the stand were incorrect -- her purse, coat and cellphone were gone, Michelle Duncan said -- and there wasn't anything that immediately suggested an abduction, she said.

"The first baristas didn't see anything we haven't seen before (with other employees)," Tyler Duncan said. "It just looked like she did a real poor job of closing."

There was no sign of a struggle, he said. Soon after, when the Duncans watched the surveillance video, they saw something that made them call police immediately, he said. The couple would not elaborate on what triggered the call but said the video was obscured somehow.

The abduction was apparently so stealthy that a person seen in the video, sitting in a pickup about 50 feet from the stand, didn't appear to notice anything strange, Tyler said.

"They were just oblivious," he said.

The security system at Common Grounds, with multiple cameras and an alarm with a panic button, is better than most small businesses have in Anchorage, Tyler said. "We took it seriously. We have young women working in here."

Koenig's father, James Koenig, said he had "briefly" hired a private investigator but the man was no longer working on the case. James sounded haggard on the phone Wednesday.

ANCHORAGE - One week after 18-year-old Samantha Koenig was kidnapped from a Midtown coffee stand, her family still waits for answers.

Family and friends are camped out in a motorhome in the Alaska Club parking lot. Friends said they're still optimistic Koenig will be found.

Officers said they've taken a lot of calls in the past week, even from psychics claiming to have answers.

“We can't accept stuff that comes from psychics,” said Anchorage Police Department Spokesman Lt. Dave Parker. “We've never had a psychic lead in the history of the Anchorage Police Department that turned out to be a lead – a true lead that assisted us in solving a case.”

Police called in the FBI to help with the investigation as well.

“They assist with specialized equipment and training, also they have a lot of experience dealing with kidnapping. We have a lot of local knowledge and you put those two together and our investigators are quite good at what they do as well, so my money is on the cops,” said Parker.

John Bacon, a man who helped search for Koenig on Monday and said he was a private investigator and bounty hunter, now says he’s off the case.

After researching his past, KTVA has learned Bacon is a two-time convicted sex offender and was once publicly outed by a Florida television station for impersonating a psychologist.

Bacon told KTVA Wednesday he is heading to Virginia, and has passed off the case to another PI, but KTVA was unable to confirm that information, or for whom in Alaska Bacon was supposed to be working.

Just watched the end of Braden and Charlie's funeral, then go to find out what is going on with Samantha, only to find that factions within are feuding.  I am heartsick....I have to wonder if we actually ever do any good

On this google map there appears to be a surveillance camera on the building behind the coffee hut Samantha worked at. Also this appears to be a very busy area.....somebody had to have seen something
