Police looking for missing Mt. Pleasant woman

By Cameron Easley - email

On Friday, Mount Pleasant police and emergency vehicles were at Watson's home on NOrth Creek Drive in the Rivertown Subdivision.  Police would not disclose why they were there, but did say Watson has not been found.

Neighbors said Watson lived at the home with her fiance.  According to Charleston County records, the home belongs to David Hedrick.

According to the Mt. Pleasant Police Department, Dara Lee Watson was last seen in the western NC mountain town by her mother, who said Watson left the residence in a silver GMC Envoy with SC plates reading 'GFW-393'.

Investigators say her cell phone was last used on Wednesday night around 7:30 p.m.  Police traced that call to the Venning Road area of Mount Pleasant.  Police also said that Watson's boss received a text message that same day stating "she was fine" but she has not been heard from since.

MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) -

New details have emerged in the case of a missing Mt. Pleasant woman and her fiancÚ who was found dead in their home last week.

Incident reports provided by the Mt. Pleasant Police Department on Monday indicate a handgun was found near the body of 34-year-old David Hedrick on Friday, the same day police contacted him to ask about the whereabouts of his fiancÚ, 30-year-old Dara Lee Watson.

One of Watson's coworkers filed a missing persons report with the Mt. Pleasant Police Department on Friday after Watson had not been heard from for two days. Watson was last seen on Monday in Boone, NC by her mother.

According to the incident report, a friend of Hedrick's arrived at his North Creek Drive home on Feb. 11 to find Hedrick's body lying horizontally on the bed in the master bedroom. A police officer described a "pool of blood building around Hedrick's head." The report also states that Hedrick's friend located a 9 mm handgun in the master bedroom's bathroom.

Mystery surrounds disappearance of South Carolina woman Dara Lee Watson

Police are actively investigating the disappearance of a 30-year-old South Carolina woman whose burned SUV was discovered in a wooded area and whose fiance was found dead inside the couple's home.

Mount Pleasant Police Capt. Stan Gragg told FoxNews.com that the search for Dara Lee Watson is being treated as a missing persons case, but said foul play is being considered.

Watson's burned silver 2006 GMC Envoy was found abandoned in the Francis Marion Forest on Wednesday, police said. The young accountant was reported missing early Friday by her boss when she failed to show up for work, according to local media reports.

The live5news article says the gun was in the bathroom, but the Fox article says next to his body.  Could Dara be a suspect rather than a victim.

I'm confused by this:

"Incident reports provided by the Mt. Pleasant Police Department on Monday indicate a handgun was found near the body of 34-year-old David Hedrick on Friday, the same day police contacted him to ask about the whereabouts of his fiancÚ, 30-year-old Dara Lee Watson."

Did LE actually contact him on Monday and then later found him dead or did they attempt to contact him and found him dead?

Police reports released Monday are now shedding more light on the disappearance of 30-year-old Dara Watson, of Mount Pleasant, and the death of her fiance' 34-year-old David Hedrick.

Hedrick's body was found Friday, in the home he shared with Watson on North Creek Drive.

According to reports, when Hedrick's body was discovered Friday afternoon, there was a 9-mm handgun on a counter in the home. A friend says he placed the gun there when asked to secure the weapon by a 911 operator.

According to reports, Hedrick told police, when contacted, that he and Watson had an argument Monday and had not heard from her since Tuesday.

It's not clear but I'm getting the impression that he killed her, burned her vehicle then came home and killed himself.

That's what I initially thought, but with the conflicting information about the gun I had the other thought.  Now with the article New Monkey posted it does sound like murder/suicide, but odd that he apparently waited until the friends go there to shoot himself.  Unless it was supposed to be more for show and he timed it so they could save him.  If that's the case, he messed up.  It sure doesn't sound good for her now

Is it my imagination or are these stories all very poorly written?

I don't think it's your imagination.  I couldn't work out what that article was saying.

MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) -

Charleston County sheriff's deputies have recovered the shovel they say David Hedrick had the day he was driven home from the Francis Marion National Forest. The shovel is being tested for possible DNA from missing woman Dara Watson, who hasn't been seen since Feb. 6.

Mt. Pleasant Police Chief Harry Sewell said Tuesday that Hedrick, Watson's fiance, was involved in her disappearance. According to police, a witness spotted Hedrick with a shovel, leaving the area where 30-year-old Dara Watson's car was found burned. The shovel was found down the road from the burned car on Halfway Creek Road.

I think she decided to break off the relationship and he couldn't handle it.  Killed her then killed himself.

911 call alludes to couple's breakup before man killed himself
Posted: Feb 15, 2012 6:09 AM PST Updated: Feb 16, 2012 7:08 AM PST

MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) -

On a 911 call released Wednesday, a friend of David Hedrick tells emergency dispatchers that Hedrick had just fatally shot himself after a recent breakup with his girlfriend, 30-year-old Dara Watson, who police are currently searching for.

According to a police incident report, Patrick O'Neil and Charles Gilbert arrived at Hedrick's North Creek Drive home last Friday and found Hedrick's body lying horizontally on the bed in the master bedroom.

Gilbert told emergency dispatchers that he and O'Neil heard gunshots and broke into Hedrick's home and found him suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot.

"Wow this is awful," Gilbert told the dispatcher. "He and his girlfriend just broke up. They were about to get married ... "David! He's gone. He's gone."

Like I said, IMO she broke up with him, he couldn't take it, killed her then killed himself.  Very sad.  I hope they can find her body.
