"White Applicants Blast FDNY After Being Denied Entry To Preparation Class"

Quote
“We feel that for your best opportunity to do well on the test the Vulcan’s test is a good test. They hit the nail on the head last time with those unique types of questions,” Mannix said.

The Vulcan Society didn’t return Young’s calls Thursday. The FDNY said it is looking into the matter. Another prep test was scheduled for Thursday night. Basile said he would be back. He just wants in. He said he doesn’t want anyone else out.

Wednesday night’s class was the third in a series of prep exams given by the Vulcan Society. The previous two were integrated. The one Wednesday was the only one from which people were barred from attending.

Why would they have to split the class by race?  Did anyone tape/record the first class?

Are the class contents different based on race?

What is the connection between Vulcan and those that make up the test questions, have access ot the test questions, and provide the testing?

Is someone stacking the deck in favor of the non-white students?

Another case of 'It's not that we're against white people, we're just for everyone else...'

The latest controversy stems from an independent effort to fix what a federal judge called a shameful blight of discrimination in the FDNY and its hiring practices.

The Vulcan Society says three nights in a row, non-black FDNY applicants attended their test-prep sessions, but they ran out of material Wednesday night and turned away everyone they had not invited.

White firefighter candidates who attended a study session in Brooklyn Thursday night, though, say they experienced no problems.

"They got us all in and took care of us inside. They took us through the study course and they answered all the questions we had," said one firefighter candidate.

"This material is Vulcan Society material. We paid for it we administer it," said John Coombs of the Vulcan Society.

One has to wonder if the material was the same and the same information presented Wednesday and Thursday nights.

A class scheduled for Thursday night at the Queens was canceled - a decision the Vulcan Society says was made by the school because of what uninvited firefighters did Wednesday night.

Why would these folks show up if they weren't invited?

What about those who were invited and missed out on Thursday?  Somthing about all this planning doesn't sound right.

You invite folks and someone turns them away at the door?

"They were being obstructionists. Firefighters on the jobs were trying to take seats from other individuals who wanted an opportunity for tutoring," said Coombs.
