Investigators in Opelika say they have not been able to identify human child remains.

Investigators believe the remains found the first weeks in February belong to a child, between 6 and 10-years old.

The child's skull and other remains were found near the Brook Haven trailer park off Hurst Street.

I posted this in the Haleigh tread because of a connect to Opelika in her case.  I thought it was an interesting coincidence.

Sadly, this child may not even be reported missing.

FBI continues tests on remains of child found in Alabama trailer park

Remains of a child between the ages of 6 and 10 were found in Opelika, Alabama and police have not been able to identify who that child is, yet.

A child's skull was found on January 28 at the Brook Haven trailer park off Hurst Street, a month ago.  More remains were found in the subsequent search of the area, with remains found in the surrounding woods about 50-75 feet from where the skull was found, reports MyFox Alabama news.

"A thorough grid search of the area was conducted and no additional remains or items of evidence were located or recovered," said Capt. Bruce DeLong with the Opelika Police Dept.

The preliminary results of the remains by the Alabama Dept. of Forensic Sciences indicated that the individual died by homicidal means.
The FBI is still conducting more forensic tests on the remains.

I've been pondering this for a while, and I'm moving this on over to "Unsolved Crimes", due to the article I posted above that indicates LE thinks this to be a homicide.  The child may never have been reported missing.   an angelic monkey

FBI continues tests on remains of child found in Opelika
By Toygar Ayla
Posted April 20, 2012, Updated April 21, 2012

OPELIKA, AL (WTVM) -

Preliminary results on tests performed on the child's skull and other remains found off of Hurst Street in Opelika have come back.

However at the request of the Opelika Police Department and the FBI, Coroner Bill Harris says he is not ready to release those findings at this point.

Captain Bruce Delong with the Opelika Police Department says they expect to get a detailed report from the FBI forensics team next week.

Investigators are hoping to learn the gender, age and exact cause of death from those forensic test results, although it is being investigated as a homicide.

OPELIKA, AL (WTVM) -
Opelika officials revealed Tuesday afternoon the human remains found near a trailer park in Lee County belongs to a girl of African-American decent between 4 and 7 years old.

Official determined the bones appear to be underdeveloped, which may indicate the child was malnourished.

Another baby just thrown away.  I hope they find her identity soon.  I really thought this might be Haleigh.

DeLong said when the investigation of the case began in January, there were no reports of any missing children in the Lee County area; however, in light of the new forensic information, officers will be checking again with local and state agencies as the testing continues.

A 4- to 7-year-old girl whose skeletal remains were discovered in an Opelika mobile home community in January now has a name — Juvenile Jane Doe, law enforcement officials announced at a press conference Thursday.

FBI agents and Opelika police once again requested the public’s help in positively identifying an African-American female who authorities said was likely malnourished and physically abused before her death.

“This was an innocent child that did not deserve to die in the manner she did,” said Patrick J. Kiernan, acting special agent in charge of the FBI’s Mobile Division. “Somebody out there in the community hopefully will recognize this child.”

Images of a forensic artist’s three-dimensional rendering of Juvenile Jane Doe based on her skeletal remains were released during Thursday’s press briefing by Kiernan, who vowed to employ all forms of media to gather information in the case. While unsure of where Juvenile Jane Doe is from, Kiernan said authorities will initially focus their efforts in generating leads in the Southeast through the use of billboards and other media outlets.

“We wanted to start regionally where the remains were found, but if we need to go nationally we can certainly go national,” Kiernan said.  MORE>>>>>>>>>>>>
