Zimmerman, who was wearing a suit and had chains that wrapped around his waist and connected to handcuffs, said that at the time of the shooting he did not know how old Martin was or whether he was armed.

That's either poor reporting or a flat out lie told by George Zimmerman.  In his 9-11 call he clearly states the 'suspect' is a teenager.

I agree, especially after the repercussions from the Anthony trial.  I'd hate to be a juror on that trial!

CBS/AP) SANFORD, Fla. - A judge has granted bail for George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer charged with killing Florida teenager Trayvon Martin, but would not allow his release Friday, citing further discussions needed about the terms, including whether or not he would be allowed out of state.

Circuit Judge Kenneth Lester also said that Zimmerman must not have any contact with the victim's family; must wear an ankle monitoring bracelet; and adhere to a 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew. The judge's order also states that Zimmerman cannot be in possession of firearms; and must not consume alcohol or controlled substances.

<cut>

His attorney, Mark O'Mara, asked the judge to let him out of jail while he awaits trial. His attorney also asked the judge to allow Zimmerman to leave the state while wearing a GPS bracelet, and to keep his location confidential in order to help secure his safety.

<cut>
Martin's parents were in the courtroom today, coming face-to-face with their son's killer for the first time. They wept at news of the bond.

After the hearing, Martin family attorney Ben Crump said Martin's parents were "very outraged" at the results of the hearing.

"It was devastating that [Zimmerman] got to give a self-serving apology to help get him a bond," Crump said. "Why is everybody protecting George Zimmerman?"

Zimmerman surrendered his passport, according to his attorney.

State prosecutor Bernie de la Rionda, arguing against bond, said Zimmerman showed "a lack of adhering to authority," but also suggested not releasing Zimmerman was also for his own good. "Will he be a threat [to the community]? Quite frankly, some people will want to get to him."

Testifying by phone link, Shellie Zimmerman said she did not believe her husband would be a threat to the community if he were released. "No concern whatsoever," she said.

Fla. prosecutor in Martin case wins re-election

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida prosecutor who charged George Zimmerman with second-degree murder is going to spend another four years in office.

Angela Corey on Friday won a new term after no one stepped forward to challenge the Republican in this year's election. Qualifying ended at noon.

Corey was first elected in 2008 as state attorney for the judicial circuit that includes Clay, Duval and Nassau counties in northeast Florida.

The 57-year-old prosecutor is known for her tough tactics, locking up criminals for long sentences and not negotiating easily on plea bargains.   ::snipping2::

Dershowitz Blasts Zimmerman Prosecution: 'Not Only Immoral, But Stupid'

With ABC News’ release of the George Zimmerman photo showing blood flowing freely from his head, the question becomes whether Angela Corey, the prosecutor in the case, had access to the photo before charging Zimmerman with second-degree murder.

The arrest affidavit did not mention the photograph, or the bleeding, gashes, and bruises on Zimmermans’ head. Professor Alan Dershowitz of Harvard Law School stated upon release of the arrest affidavit that it was “so thin that it won’t make it past a judge on a second degree murder charge … everything in the affidavit is completely consistent with a defense of self-defense.”

After the release of the photo, however, Dershowitz went much further, telling Breitbart News that if the prosecutors did have the photo and didn’t mention it in the affidavit, that would constitute a “grave ethical violation,” since affidavits are supposed to contain “all relevant information.”

Dershowitz continued, “An affidavit that willfully misstates undisputed evidence known to the prosecution is not only unethical but borders on perjury because an affiant swears to tell not only the truth, but the whole truth, and suppressing an important part of the whole truth is a lie."   ::snipping2::

Zimmerman Bombshells: Mayor And Pictures

From the bond hearing:

George Zimmerman was allegedly recognized by the Mayor for his intervention in the events surrounding the homeless (black) man that was beaten by a Sanford police officer's relative.

There has been a near-complete media blackout in this regard -- and questions about whether the letter published somewhat-recently was authentic.

Well, it appears (from testimony of his mother this morning) that the Sanford Mayor personally recognized George Zimmerman for his efforts to obtain justice for that homeless man.

And where is the media who tried to turn this into a racial issue?

Just as importantly, where is the Mayor of Sanford who gave that commendation and thus knew damn well what the history of this man was when it came to his views on race?

Further there was testimony introduced this morning that George Zimmerman has been actively mentoring black kids in Orlando despite being urged not to by his mother as a consequence of the area of the city in question where he traveled to being a known high-crime area and thus dangerous to his person.

It is becoming increasingly clear that the media intentionally attempted to present a false picture of both the incident itself and George Zimmerman personally with regard to any racial issues surrounding this event.

Oh, and the claims that Zimmerman wasn't injured?  Here's a picture taken three minutes after EMS arrived:  ::snipping2::

George Zimmerman bond hearing: 5 new things we learned
April 20, 2012

Seminole County Judge Kenneth Lester on Friday allowed George Zimmerman to post a $150,000 bond to go free as he awaits trial on a second degree murder charge for his role in the shooting death of unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Fla., on Feb. 26. The bond is expected to be posted in several days.

Normally routine, the hearing turned into a mini-trial when defense attorney Mark O’Mara challenged prosecutors' probable-cause affidavit – the document in which prosecutors made their case for arresting Mr. Zimmerman. One of the lead investigators and even Zimmerman himself took the stand. Here are five things we learned.

George Zimmerman: Apologizes to Martin family, bond set
April 20, 2012

ORLANDO --

Friday was the first time we heard from George Zimmerman,28, since he was arrested and he immediately apologized to the parents of Trayvon Martin.

"I am so sorry for the loss of your son," Zimmerman said.

Martin's mother, Sybrina Fulton, refused to look at Zimmerman.
 ::snipping2::
He also indicated that he asked police and his attorneys to tell Martin's family that he was sorry. Zimmerman’s attorney Mark O’Mara told News13 this week that Zimmerman wanted a private meeting with the Martins. However, that never happened.

At the end of the hearing Friday, Circuit Judge Kenneth R. Lester set Zimmerman’s bond at $150,000. However, it could be a couple of days before he gets out because of logistics to ensure Zimmerman will stay safe.
 ::snipping2::
immerman’s mother, Gladys, also vouched for her son.

She says he volunteered as a mentor for two black teenagers from Orlando.

During the hearing, Zimmerman's attorney questioned one of the investigators from the state attorney's office.

"Have you ever had your nose broken or fractured? Do you know that was an injury Mr. Zimmerman sustained?” asked O’Mara to investigator Dale Gilbreath.
"I know that is an injury that was reported he sustained, I haven't seen any medical records to indicate that,” said Gilbreath.
"Have you asked him for them?"
"Have I asked him for them, no."
"Do you want a copy of them?" said O’Mara while presenting them to the court.

The session started to sound more like a trial than a bond hearing, but the judge made his decision.

"I'm going to grant the motion for bond at $150,000 with the following conditions," said Circuit Judge Kenneth R. Lester.

The conditions include electronic monitoring, no use of alcohol, no possession of firearms, and a curfew set for 7 p.m.

The family of Trayvon left disappointed in the decision and did not speak to the media.

i'm watching JVM and that woman Sunny Hostin is on.  I cannot stand her.  During the Casey Anthony case she was so critical of the prosecution, yet suprise suprise, here she is singing the prosecutions praises when it is obvious that the prosecution was not good today.  This is so clearly about race when it shouldn't be.

 I don't know how many times a person can vote in a given time or anything like that, but I've been watching to see if there's a trend one way or another.  It probably doesn't prove anything and I'll bet the vote results would vary geographically and etc.  I just find it interesting.

George Zimmerman: State Attorney Norm Wolfinger will not seek re-election
Last Updated: Friday, April 20, 2012 @ 07:36PM

SANFORD --
The state attorney who originally handled the George Zimmerman case will not seek re-election.

Norm Wolfinger, the long-time state attorney for Brevard and Seminole counties, made the announcement Friday.

Wolfinger, 66, has been state attorney for the past 27 years.

Wolfinger has come under fire for his part in the Zimmerman case. The family of Trayvon Martin has accused Wolfinger of meeting with Sanford's police chief the night George Zimmerman was taken into questioning for shooting and killing Trayvon Martin, and of telling police not to arrest Zimmerman.

Wolfinger has denied that accusation. He recused himself from the case, and Gov. Rick Scott appointed Jacksonville State Attorney Angela Corey to handle the case.

Zimmerman's Bond Hearing: Mark O'Mara Gets Rave Reviews for His Performance
Posted: 04/20/2012 6:17 pm

George Zimmerman's bond hearing is over and his attorney Mark O'Mara got exactly what he wanted: a reasonable bond of $150,000 and a GPS monitoring device for his client. Yet, Friday's hearing was much more than just a bond hearing, it was O'Mara's chance to perform for the public, the media and try to sway opinion of his notorious client. And for that performance, all I can say is kudos and offer a glowing review of his "theatrical" debut.

All the judge needed to know to make his decision was whether Zimmerman was a flight risk or a danger to society and a discussion of his prior criminal history. So why did O'Mara lay into investigator Dale Gilbreath and grill him on the affidavit? Why did Zimmerman's family discuss his good deeds, including mentoring young African-American boys? Why did George Zimmerman himself take the stand to apologize, a move unheard of for a criminal defendant at a bond hearing? Simple; O'Mara is trying to educate the public and change the minds of potential jurors by painting the picture that his client is a good guy and the prosecution is unfairly out to get him.
 ::snipping2::
The key to the performance, though, was O'Mara's battle scene with investigator Dale Gilbreath. He got up and questioned Gilbreath so much about the affidavit that the investigator came off looking like a fool. First, Gilbreath admitted he wasn't aware of any inquiry to Trayvon Martin's father as to whether he could identify the voice heard screaming in the 911 calls as his son's. Gilbreath also admitted that he does not know who started the fight, does not have evidence to prove who started the fight and does not have evidence to contradict Zimmerman's statement that Martin started the fight. He also testified he does not have evidence to contradict Zimmerman's assertion that he turned back around to walk to his car. O'Mara also laid into Gilbreath over the use of "profiling" in the affidavit and the claim that Zimmerman "continued to follow" Martin even after he was told by a dispatcher not to. This claim that he "continued to follow" is key to the case, because it helps the prosecution prove he had an intent to kill, which is grounds for a 2nd degree murder conviction.

George Zimmerman Apologizes to Parents of Trayvon Martin, “I wanted to say I am sorry for the loss of your son” … Zimmerman’s Bail Set At $150K (VIDEO)

http://scaredmonkeys.com/2012/04/20/george-zimmerman-apologizes-to-parents-of-trayvon-martin-zimmermans-bail-set-at-150k-video/

Quote
After having been charged with second degree murder in the death of Trayvon Martin, George Zimmerman appeared in the Sanford, FL courtroom this morning where his bail was set at $150,000. George Zimmerman could be out within days and mighty be allowed to live outside Florida for his own safety. With the 10% cash payment customarily made to secure bond, George Zimmerman could be freed with $15,000 from his family. Also, during today’s hearing Zimmerman also apologized to the parents of Trayvon Martin.

Quote
“I wanted to say I am sorry for the loss of your son. I did not know how old he was. I thought he was a little bit younger than I am. And I did not know if he was armed or not.”
::snipping2::

Making the apology and admitting to things that happened in the case on a bond hearing was certainly an interesting and unique approach to a defense. I think one of the main issues when every one followed the Casey Anthony murder trial was that she was without remorse in the death of little Caylee to the end. George Zimmerman is taking quite the opposite approach.

What is also interesting is that the bias MSM and the race baiter who descended upon Sanford, FL and tried to hijack the sad and tragic death of Trayvon Martin tried to make this case be unique and out of the norm ... a racial hate crime. However, when the facts of the case are reviewed and a judge reviews the case, it was handled as usual with a defendant getting granted bail.

If this was a hate crime there would never have been bail granted.

It is unfortunate that the MSM and the race baiters ginned up the hysteria and racial hatred surrounding this case. It remains to be seen what the outcome will be to this case when only the facts and evidence are taken into account.

Keep the record open

OUR OPINION: Judge should unseal Zimmerman case records
By The Miami Herald Editorial
HeraldEd@MiamiHerald.com

Now that a new circuit judge in Sanford has been assigned to hear the case of George Zimmerman involving the tragic shooting death of Miami Gardens teen Trayvon Martin, he seems to be on the right track to ensure that court documents in the case become a matter of public record, as they should be.

Circuit Court Judge Jessica Recksiedler rightly recused herself after a defense attorney raised conflict of interest questions. But before stepping down, she acted with unseemly haste in granting a motion to seal the file.

That brought this newspaper and other news organizations into court to ask for a reversal of that decision because Florida’s open records law, one of the broadest in the country, makes it clear that virtually all court records are public, along with most evidence.

The law establishes precise, narrow grounds for making exceptions, but Judge Recksiedler not only failed to consider whether this case met the legal test for such an exception, she didn’t even give the news media a chance to be heard before making her ruling.

The judge granted a defense motion to seal the records because of extensive pre-trial publicity, and the state’s attorney did not object.

Not so fast.
