Brandi's Avatars

« Reply #2500 on: October 27, 2012, 04:31:04 PM »

Our power went out here a few months back and that's exactly what I did.  We have about 14 small solar lights around out deck and they are easily removed from the brackets holding them.  I simply brought them in the house and placed them all around.  It was really nice.  Between them and my wickless candles, we had plenty of light.

Klaas,

Thank-you for keeping us monkeys informed about the solar lights.

May I ask, please, a few questions?

How long did the small solar lights last? two hours, more?

Did you put the 14 small solar lights, outside, the following day to recharge?

Will the solar lights, recharge outside when it is cloudy?

Thank-you Smile

Surprisingly, they lasted many hours and a couple were still lit a little in the morning.  I'd say over 8 hours.  They will recharge outside if there is some sun and some clouds but if it's really think and dark clouds they don't recharge well.

Yes, our power was back on and I put the lights back in place outside and they recharged right away.

Thank-you

HI Monkey's & Brandi:)

The solar hand cranked radio with a flashlight, is so functionable.

TV anchors, (last year) suggested, that people wear a Helmet, what? A bikers helmet?
I do not have a helmet, I guess, a pot will have to suffice Smile

I hope if a tree falls, it will fall in the right place, this is my prayer.

I need to follow-up on some creative ideas (not avatars). I wrote an idea down, last night, about a business card down, I need to make it happen. I find following through on ideas is the work.  You are the least lazy, monkey-person, I ever met in my life, Brandi. Why do good fresh, ideas, alway surface when we are about to fall asleep?, grrr...

I am going to have fun throught the storm, or, at least, be creative.

Seahorse, are you in the path of Sandy too?

I have prepared a "Bug Out" bag and placed it in our car, in case we have to leave in a hurry.

Never been this anxious about a hurricane, it's never been predicted to be so close to us with this high of winds expected to last 48 hours.

I am not a happy camper. The outer bands of rain will be here in a few hours. Supposed to affect us through Tuesday!

You stay safe, Seahorse!

Yes, Brandi!

Gov.Malloy has declared a state of emergency in Connecticut in anticipation of the impact of Hurricane Sandy.

May I ask you please what is in your Bug Kit?  Thank-you.

I should have enough common sense to assemble one.

Klaas' 12 small solar lights and candles sounded pretty together.  The idea sounds so inviting and elegant.

Brandi-you and the other Monkeys, will be fine, I have so much faith that we will make it out of this storm.  This is just another little Test Smile

I have to get weird for a minute, I did think that God is mad, but not at the Monkeys.

Green Eyes, gave us a good idea (last year, she saw it on the weather channel), about filling plastic zipper bags, with water and freezing, so in case the power goes out.

Prayers for all Monkey's...keep busy.
Busy hands and the mind does not worry, so I was told.  It works!

The solar light thingy is such a good idea. Glad to hear it really works. I am so glad the freeze bags with water worked Seahorse. I know the North East Coast doesn't get many of these storms so it's something for them to worry about. I think they are worried about so many being without power.

Had the weather channel on and one of them reported That Connecticut was using submarines to sand bag in northern Connecticut. I looked at hubs and ask did I hear right. Yep that's what she said. I am thinking WTH. I think she meant that they were using submariners ( Navy people) to help sand bag.

Brandi I know you have prepared for the storm the best you can. How are you doing with your rib? So glad you were able to get your prescription before the storm hits.

Brandi I know you have prepared for the storm the best you can. How are you doing with your rib? So glad you were able to get your prescription before the storm hits.

Never been on meds before, but always heard to be sure you have them filled before a storm hits. So I did.

Love the idea about the ziplock bags of water, I had also heard about that before, but forgot until Seahorse reminded me. I immediately filled up 4 bags, probably could fill a few more. We have a freezer that is packed full. I wrapped a comforter over it and we will not open it when the power is out. I hope that we don't lose it all. There is a lot of stuff in there I do not want to lose!

I put the ziplock water bags in our refrigerator/freezer tonight.

It's just so uncomfortable waiting for a disaster. We have a pet-friendly hotel near us I called tonight (a Candlewood Suites property) to ask how booked they are. The guy told me he thought they would have rooms available tomorrow night. That's when the winds are due to start here. We'll make a decision to leave or stay then. I don't even have a place to park at our home where a tree or big branch could not hit it. My main worry is the winds and the trees at our home. Don't want to get squished. The hotel has no big trees near it! I don't care if there is no power, that is just a minor inconvenience to me.

I am feeling much better, thanks. Going to consult with my doc on Tuesday about upping one of the meds, since I still experience some pain.

Brandi - stay safe and do not do too much lifting! Do not aggravate the injury. If you feel safer at the hotel then go now. Do not wait till the last minute!

Got a call this morning that the little coastal town where George lives is being evacuated.  Didn't preach but went and got him.  Got back in time to go in the church and ask for volunteers to help get him up the steps.  They just lifted him and his wheelchair.  So he is here.  Wow, I may have to cook today -- haha!

Evening Monkeys,

Hope everyone is safe.

Sister so glad you were able to go get George and you had help getting up the steps.  an angelic monkey

Brandi I see you. How you doing so far?

Just heard Atlantic City already has water and sand on the board walk and the coastal highway. The storm is still miles away.

I went to the store this evening and when I got back and got out of the car. WOW!!! It seems something close got sprayed from Mr. Skunk. What a nasty smell.  I love the county but sure don't like Mr. Skunk.

Thanks, Muffy and thanks to everyone wishing us well in the storm.  We are expected to get the worst of it from Monday afternoon until Tuesday at noon.  The shore towns are starting to flood in Jersey.  My brother who just passed has a house there, I hope his family does not have any more to worry about, they have been through enough.  Friends and family who were evacuated from the shore points have not left and do not intend to.  I am worried about them.  My brother came and put things inside my shed so nothing would blow around.  We get flooding around this area so there may not be a way in or out for some time.  I will check in when I can.  Stay safe, everyone.
