Muffy - love the Texas sandals.  Was gonna go look for some today but my friend Melissa told me to turn around and head home cuase of the storms.

would post some vids if I had a youtube accoutn and knew how to post them.

I'm glad you heeded your friends advice and cancelled your shopping trip.  No telling what could have happened if you hadn't.     You have video footage?  That would be something to see!

Good morning!

Glad to hear our monkeys are safe!

You and me both, Can.  Wore my rug out pacing the floor.

Good afternoon to you and all the monkeys and our guests.

Thanks for posting the videos TBM and thanks CC for sharing them.

It sure was a wild day yesterday. Glad everybody was safe. So far I haven't heard any news of anyone being seriously hurt yesterday so that's wonderful. Prayers for all the families that lost their homes.

Muffy hope all your family made it thru without getting hurt.

Thank you Green Eyes.
All my relatives in the Dallas area came through with no injuries or property damage, but I have a nephew in Tyler whose home was struck by lightning.  It fried eight breakers, the a/c unit and a tv set, but there was no fire and fortunately no injuries.  My nephew, his wife and their 5 year old son and two year old daughter were all at home at the time and they said the big bang was really frightening, but are of course happy they're all okay.

Muffy glad to hear the families that live in the Dallas area are all okay. Sorry to hear about the nephew. That's scary. Sorry they lost their a/c and TV. But glad they are alright.

I am so sorry, Muffy, lightening strikes are really loud.

I am glad the people we knew so far have come out okay.  My heart goes out to those who have had injuries or damage during the storms.

I am glad they are all safe. I remember when I was a kid and a storm came through at night. Mom and I were sitting at the kitchen table and lightening hit the antenna outside the window. We about peed in our pants!

Just a quick note about lightning strikes... I was told by a firefighter to be sure to call them if you think your home may have been hit by lightning.  Even if you're not sure it was hit by lightning and you can't see anything, call them. Don't go back to bed!  This article explains it.  About two years ago, one of my neighbors heard a loud boom during a thunderstorm, so they got out of bed, looked around and went back to sleep.  About a half hour later, the house was engulfed in smoke and flames.  They got out of the house,  but the house was a total loss.  Firemen can use thermal guns (imaging) to check the walls for heat, they can go up in the attic and etc.

What to do to Protect Your Home from Lightning
 ::snipping2::
Most modern homes are built to absorb lightning strikes, but the typical lightning bolt is extremely hot at up to 50,000 degrees Fahrenheit. So if your home is hit by lightning there is a very good chance of a fire. And sometimes fires are not immediately obvious. Roofing and building material can smolder before turning into full blown flames. If your house has been hit by lightning (you should know because most people report a very loud booming sound) you should immediately take the following steps:

• Get everyone out the house.

• Call the fire department – firefighters should be able to determine if there is a chance of fire even if there are no flames or smoke.

• After you call the fire department, call a licensed electrician to get your house a full electrical check-up.

Things that you can do ahead of time to protect your house include the following:

• Unplug your appliances and electronics when there is a storm nearby.

• Install surge protectors to help protect your electronics from power surges.

• Install a lightning protection system for your home. This includes a lightning rod on your roof that gives the lightning a path to follow to the ground rather than passing through the house and its wiring.

• Install a whole-house surge protector on your electric meter or electrical panel. This can be done by your electric company or a licensed electrician. This protects your home wiring and all of the appliances and electronics.
