Round bales of hay.  I remember the first time I saw that back in the 80's.

We see mostly round bales here in VA as well.

I understand the square ones are usually much smaller and made that way for easy transport. And to sell.

Klaas  Yep you are right.    Round bales can weigh a ton or more, and are well-suited for modern large scale farming operations such as a dairy with 200 or more cows. However, due to the ability for a round bale to roll away on a slope, they require special transport and moving equipment.

I thought the 40 & 60 pound rectangle ones my sister and brother baled were heavy. I remember walking behind the baler and throwing them on the back of a trailer to haul them to the barn and then having to throw them on the conveyor belt to be put in the loft of the barn.  It was great fun for the kids. Being from Southern Calif.

I see lots of round bales and square bales in my area of Texas.  Some folks with livestock even on acreage under 10 acres use the rounds.  There's a trailer attachment for a truck that is used to haul a single bale.  With the drought, there are big trucks parked in areas with rounds on them for sale.  The price of hay has gone up so much, it's become lucrative to bring the hay in from other areas and sell them.  There's a profit to be made bringing the hay from other areas even with gasoline cost figured in.  Or, sometimes folks drive elsewhere to buy.  BTW, snakes really like to hang out under hale bales, so be careful...

I can carry 2 round bales with my tractor. I have hay spears front and back. I usually have 30 round bales and 100 square bales a year for the donks. They are used in the winter and to supplement year round because of the drought. I get the square bales with the trailer and truck and they deliver all the rounds in one truck load. It's getting expensive to buy but with the price of diesel it is expensive to do.

I have watched the round ones go from 40 - 50 a roll up to 100 around here. At least the ones I see for sale along the road between Babs and my house. I would be afraid of the rounds so are so big. But hey I am a city girl at heart.

Morning Monkeys  I am having a panic attack here. Woke up about 5:30 because it was warm in the house. Went to check A/C and it isn't turning on. The compressor out side starts up but the part in the house doesn't turn on.  It's Sunday I am not going to be able to get any body out until tomorrow.  Will call the guy we used last year and pray he can come fix it. But am going to have to go to walmart and pray they have some window units left. And get one to at least cool down one room.    They are calling for 106 again today.

Poor GE!  Get a handtowel wet, wring it out and put it in the freezer.  It will freeze quickly and if it's really hot you can put on her head or on your bare feet to cool you down.  Sometimes I'll do the same thing with paper towels but they can fall apart so easy.  We don't have air, and usually in September we have a week or so of almost 100 degrees and the house is the same as outside pretty much.  The rest of the time the average temp is in the 70's.

Thank You Klaas. I will do that.  I am going down to the ice house and buy a block of ice  and but in a little ice chest and put a floor fan next to it to blow cool air on us.  The air guy came out and have to order a part hopefully they can get it tomorrow. I was so grateful when he said he would be right over. I can manger the day with the heat. But not the nights.

Had to call the guy back about the A/C.  The kid that came out said that if we took it off auto and just turned the fan on and set the temp at 75 it would work. So we did and we were getting cool air. Then about 15 minutes after he left the fan went off. Which it shouldn't have done. So hubs called them back and the owner said I will be right there. In about 15 minutes he shows up and starts looking. He took at the relay switch out and some how directly wired the fan. So we have A/C. Thank God. The switch is part of what made the unit a energy star unit. They will get the part tomorrow and be back to replace it sometime tomorrow. I am so thankful they came out today and were here within 30 minutes or so from when I called.

So no block ice or frozen hand towels needed this time.
