Well, we're all up early to take Brandi to the vet for her surgery. Rainy, cold day.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers for Brandi.

Took her in at 7:30 ... I finally called at 1:30 because the tech told me I'd probably hear something around noon. She was still in surgery when I called.

At 3 PM the vet called, said she did okay and was in recovery and looking around.

She had to extract "seven or eight" teeth from upper jaw! (Don't know how her teeth could have gotten that bad in less than a year. Her last annual was less than a year ago and nothing was said about her teeth. Not even that they needed cleaning.)

Guess we should have been brushing them and keeping an eye out on them, but really didn't know we needed to do that.

Anyway, she told me to call back around 4:30 and she'll let us know if she is doing well enough to come home tonight. They close at 6.

Thank you all again for your support with this. I have been a nervous Nellie all day long!

We are home with Brandi ...I'll share my story about her tomorrow.

The vet took before and after pictures of the surgery. I think it is fascinating. I am not going to post it here, but I will give you the URL to see if ONLY if you are comfortable seeing the inside of a dog's mouth while it is undergoing dental work. There is no blood. But I don't want to alarm anyone who might be squeamish.

They sent us home with a finger toothbrush and toothpaste. Lesson learned.

Hi seahorse! LOL

Hope I didn't gross you or anyone else out!

Today, her little cheeks are swollen out like a chipmunk! (When the vet's office called to check on her today, I mentioned that, and they said I could bring her back in to have that checked. But I really think it is a normal reaction to all those back teeth on the upper jaw pulled. So I declined.)

Last night she just paced all evening and most of the night. I wanted her to sit down and relax and sleep, but she had other plans.

This morning, I got up at 6 to give her her meds and let her finally eat. She had not eaten for 34 hours (as directed by the vet) and boy, she was hungry. Bless her heart! Gave her canned food and she loved it. She also was allowed all the water she wanted today, so she seems to be feeling better, although she gives out an occasional whine. She and I took a nap this morning and she is resting by me at the computer.

She is acting a lot like herself today and doing her usual chores, checking where everyone is and following us around when we get up to do stuff.

Again, I sure hope I didn't gross anyone out with the pics. I find them absolutely fascinating and figured some of you might also.

Hi Brandi!

Glad that Brandi is eating and drinking well!  She is going to get used to that wet food!  Ha ha

When Cad was poisoned, we had to buy and feed her a special canned food because of her system being so delicate.  She LOVED the food - even though we could only give her small spoon fully at a time.  She came to expect the delicious recipe- but of course she is back to her Science Diet now.

So happy for you and your family that she seems to be on the path back to her normal activities!!

Thanks, Cadillac!

Brandi has been fed dry food all her life, so I plan on moistening some and mixing it with canned food so she does not get too hooked on the canned stuff.

Because she had so many teeth pulled, she may need to have a softer diet from now on.

Our vet also sells the Hills Science Diet. Never tried it ...yet.

I suspect you are right - I know people swell if they have teeth taken out so I am sure doggies do too!  Hope she feels better soon. Did not gross me out with the pics at all - fascinating!

Thank you Sister.

I am sure all will go well with the insurance adjuster. Just sorry you have to go through all this.

BTW, I left you a post in my section a few days ago. I'd sort of like to know what you think of the Mr. Jenkins I used.
