Police, volunteers continue search for missing 3-yr-old Monday
Posted March 24, 2012, Updated March 26, 2012

 ::snipping2::
Arkansas State Police say Caleb Linn, of Springdale, was with his Boy Scout group at a 900 acre camp, Kia Kima, located near Cherokee Village in Fulton County. He was reported missing just after 1 p.m. Saturday.

According to ASP, the Boy Scout group was working on a clean-up project at a bridge about a half-mile from the main campsite. Five of the 11 children there left the bridge Saturday morning to return to camp. Around 11:30 a.m., Caleb asked permission to catch up with the others.

The Fulton County Sheriff's Office was called at 1:20 p.m. Saturday to report Caleb missing.

A command center has been set up to help find the boy.  The Fulton County Sheriff's Department says helicopters, officers on horseback and even members of the Boy Scouts are aiding in the search, and a command center is set up at the site.

ASP says the search of Caleb involves 80 law enforcement personnel and volunteers in the extreme northeast section of Fulton County near the Sharp County line north of Hardy.

According to the Fulton County Sheriff Department, there are currently no leads as to where Caleb may be.

Volunteers Needed In Search For Missing Boy In Arkansas
By Austin Robertson
March 25, 2012

 ::snipping2::
John Montgomery is the Sheriff in neighboring Baxter County, and lent his helicopter to the search for little Caleb Linn.

Montgomery says the search is two-fold: some volunteers and law enforcement agencies are searching the woods near Cherokee Village. Others are searching along and in the nearby Spring River.

The sheriff says they're hopeful that Caleb will be found alive, but at the same time they know the search could have a tragic outcome. The little boy was last seen on a bridge over the river, so Montgomery says it's unclear if he crossed the bridge in a particular direction, or if he fell in the water.

I certainly hope they find this little boy alive, but I have to ask, Adults allowed him to cross over this bridge unattended?  It's hard to imagine not knowing the area, but I keep trying to visualize how this could happen with others right there.  Again, I hope they find him, soon.

Festa, I really don't understand allowing a three year old to roam unattended, especially where there's water. (Looks like a rugged area)

Boy Scouts at 3?  Catch up to others alone at 3?  Like to know the dim wit that allowed that.  There are some really brave 3yo's but to run after (if I understand correctly)a group ahead of him alone?  WTFlock?

melisb - I'm pretty sure Caleb wasn't a scout, but was with a group doing clean -up at the camp, from what I can figure from the article.  maybe he was a scout leaders child or a scouts little brother?

Search for missing boy continues
March 26, 2012

CHEROKEE VILLAGE — More than 100 volunteers, rescue workers and law enforcement officials from across the state continued the search Sunday for a four-year-old boy who went missing Saturday at the Kia Kima Boy Scout Camp in northeast Fulton County.

Fulton County Sheriff Buck Foley said 3-year-old Caleb Linn of Springdale was with his aunt and several other children Saturday as his aunt was clearing debris from a bridge over the Spring River at the scout camp.

He was still missing as of 8:20 p.m., according to Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery.

Several kids asked for permission to return to the cabin they were staying in and walked up the hill. A short time later, Caleb asked permission to join them, Foley said.

Caleb’s aunt watched him head up the road to join them, and that’s the last anyone saw of Caleb, Foley said Sunday.

Muffy, this was the article I was basing my questions on but what you are showing me makes much more sense.  I think the above article was printed with it's wording just a little wonky.  Thank you!

Police initially said Caleb is 3 years old but the sheriff's office says he is 4.

Authorities said the group was not affiliated with the Boy Scouts.

3 or 4 that photo released looks like a 9 or 10 yr old to me.  The face doesn't have the look of a toddler/young child.

Also, I guess the camp is just called 'The Boy Scout Camp' like some camps around here are called The CCC Camp because of who build them.

That was my first thought too Kitty. The photo at the start of the thread doesn't look like a 3 year old to me either....

Divers search Ark. Scout camp river for Caleb Linn

HARDY, Ark. (AP) - Police and volunteers are searching in and along a northeastern Arkansas river for a 4-year-old boy who went missing from a Boy Scout camp over the weekend.

Searchers scour Ark. Scout camp for missing boy, 4

 ::snipping2::
More than 150 people turned out Monday to search the Kia Kima Boy Scout Camp for Caleb Linn, who was last seen Saturday at the end of a bridge where he and several other children were clearing away storm debris, Fulton County Sheriff Buck Foley said.

The children, who are related and who are not affiliated with the Boy Scouts, were staying in cabins with Caleb's aunt, Rhonda Wright, who was watching the grounds while its caretaker was away, said Foley.

According to the sheriff, Wright said five of the nine children who were staying there decided to head back to the main campsite about 300 yards from the bridge around lunchtime. She said after they left, Caleb said he wanted join them, so she told him to follow the dirt road to the cabins, then turned around to continue clearing debris. He said she last saw Caleb at the end of the bridge.

"The way the water's running, you wouldn't hear a splash," Foley said.

Investigators don't suspect foul play. There are other paths that lead from the dirt road that don't go to the cabins, and Caleb could have taken one of those and gotten lost, the sheriff said.

"I think he just wandered off," said Foley.

Authorities are proceeding as if Caleb is alive, and the dry weather and moderate temperatures since Saturday gave hope to searchers, who could be heard in the woods calling out "Caleb!" then waiting for a reply.

Questions
1.  Was the aunt the only adult supervising 11 kids?
2.  Who would allow a 4 yr old to walk 1/2 mile in the woods alone and think that was ok?
3.  How old is this aunt and were any of the children her own?

The sheriff says five of the nine kids went back up the road after working to clear debris on a bridge.  Caleb's cousin, who is 30 years old, was in charge of everyone.  Caleb wanted to hook up with the five who left.  She sent him on, and that was the last time anyone has seen him.”

"I’m concerned.  We’ve been here for three days and we haven’t found any sign, including not any of the dogs, because we’ve had numerous dog teams.  We got clothing from the little Caleb, and we haven’t hit a trail from him yet,” said Foley.

How can the dogs not have found a trace of the path he took?

Searchers scour Boy Scout camp for Ark. boy, 4
By JEANNIE NUSS, Associated Press – 4 minutes ago
 ::snipping2::
While divers plunged into a tributary of the Spring River and a helicopter hovered overhead, volunteer searchers went out on horseback, foot and four-wheelers. But by Monday night, there still wasn't any sign of Caleb.
Authorities said Caleb could have wandered off or fallen into the swollen tributary near a bridge where he and several other kids were helping an aunt clear debris left by a recent batch of storms that battered the region.
The kids weren't there as Scouts but to help clear the way for Scouts who spend summers there
 ::snipping2::
Five of the children, who are related, headed up to the main campsite where they were staying as the aunt watched the grounds while a caretaker was away, Fulton County Sheriff Buck Foley said.

The kids were about 300 yards away when Caleb decided he wanted to join them. His aunt, Rhonda Wright, told him to follow the dirt road and head back to the cabin, Foley said. Then, she went back to clearing debris
