Rape, sodomy charges filed against brother of man already arrested
By Mike Goens
March 29, 2012

The brother of a Florence man charged nearly two weeks ago with raping a 7-year-old girl was arrested Wednesday on the same charges, police said.

Police and other law enforcement agents began searching for Keith Lamar Beckwith-Boddie, 21, shortly after his brother was arrested March 16. He was found at lunchtime Wednesday hiding in the rest room at a Florence restaurant where he worked, according to reports.

Beckwith-Boddie, 220 Madison Ave., Florence, is charged with first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy and sex abuse of a child less than 12 years old, said Florence police detective Keith Johnson. All of the charges are felonies.

Beckwith-Boddie was apprehended by police and members of the U.S. Marshal’s fugitive recovery task force at 12:26 p.m.

Beckwith-Boddie and his brother, Brian Vejar Beckwith, 22, are accused of raping the girl and sodomizing her, beginning in June 2006, based on police reports. Authorities said the brothers, who were teenagers at the time, know the girls’ family and that the attacks reportedly happened at Beckwith’s house at 202 Fairgrounds Road in Florence.

Johnson said the girl, who is 12 now, did not report what happened until last year. He said police promptly opened an investigation into the accusation and information was turned over to the Lauderdale County grand jury.

Both men were indicted earlier this month by grand jurors.
