Woman convicted of killing patients with bleach awaits fate
April 2, 2012

(CNN) -- A woman who was found guilty of killing five patients at a Texas dialysis center by injecting them with bleach will learn her fate this week.

A jury in Angelia County found Kimberly Saenz, 38, guilty last week of capital murder in connection with the deaths.

On Monday, they will consider whether she should be sentenced to death or put in prison for life.

The deaths took place in April 2008 when Saenz was an employee at DaVita Dialysis Clinic in Lufkin, about 120 miles north of Houston.

Prosecutors said she killed five patients by injecting them with bleach. Five others survived.

As if struggling with dialysis isn't bad enough . . . may she receive what sentence she gave to others . . . death.

Kimberly Saenz, ex-nurse convicted of bleach killings, sentenced to life in prison
April 5, 2012

(CBS/AP) LUFKIN, Texas- Kimberly Saenz, a former East Texas nurse who killed five kidney dialysis patients by injecting them with bleach, escaped the death penalty and was sentenced to life in prison Monday.

A jury in Angelia County convicted the 38-year-old on Friday of killing five patients and deliberately injuring five others at a clinic run by Denver-based health care giant DaVita Inc.

Saenz was fired in April 2008 after a rash of illnesses and deaths at the clinic in Lufkin, about 125 miles northeast of Houston. Her lawyers argued Saenz wrongly took the blame for the clinic's sloppy procedures.

"She's never getting out no matter what you do," said Steve Taylor, Saenz's lawyer, in his closing remarks, urging jurors to choose a life sentence. "Society is protected. You will never see her again."

Kimberly Saenz should have 5 life sentences, running consecutively for the 5 lives she took.  And what about the other 5 victims that survived?  There needs to be five sentences for that too.  She should never be out! JMHO

I agree with you Sister.     However, she was given a "life sentence", which to me means she should spend the rest of her entire life in prison.  No time off for good behavior no time off for time served and no time off for humanitarian reasons, because she did harm to 10 dialysis patients, resulting in the deaths of 5 of them.  JMHO

I just saw this article and Kimberly Saenz was sentenced to life without parole.  It's better than the dialysis patients she murdered got.

'I HOPE YOU BURN IN HELL' Jury sentences Saenz to life in prison for killing patients with bleach
Posted April 2, 2012, Updated April 3, 2012

After being sentenced to life in prison without parole, Kimberly Saenz was addressed by family members of the DaVita Dialysis patients she killed by injecting them with bleach in April 2008.

“You are nothing more than a psychopathic serial killer,” said Wanda Hollingsworth, the daughter of murder victim Thelma Metcalf. “I hope you burn in hell.”

With her sentence read around 3:30 p.m., District Attorney Clyde Herrington informed Saenz she would be hearing from the families of her victims. She showed no emotion and at times looked down, scrawling on a legal pad as she was addressed by five more women who lost a loved one by her hand.

In the sentencing phase, jurors heard testimony from a series of character witnesses to help them determine if the 38-year-old Pollok woman should be sentenced to life in prison without parole or death by lethal injection. She leaned her head to one side, listening intently as criminal defense attorney consultant Frank Aubuchon outlined for the jury what prison life will be like for Saenz. Aubuchon, a 26-year Texas Department of Criminal Justice retiree, said she will become one of 28 women serving life in prison without parole. Defense attorney Steve Taylor said the only way Saenz is coming out of prison is in a box, as Aubuchon nodded in agreement.

As a highly supervised inmate on a maximum security unit, Saenz will share a cell with another woman serving at least 60 years. There are also restrictions on what type of prison job she can have, Aubuchon said, adding she can only work in the kitchen, laundry or industrial factory.

I truly hope her cell mate is Big Bertha!  She does not deserve to be able to work at all.  Let her rot in her cell!
