Kyron’s Mom Speaks on Child Abduction

MEDFORD, Ore. — Kyron Horman’s mom says she is supporting local law enforcement as they create a child abduction task force. That team will bring together local and state agencies to better respond to emergencies involving a missing child.

Desiree Young spoke Monday at the first meeting of the local Child Abduction Response Team, or CART. In 2010, her then-7-year-old son Kyron disappeared from his school in Portland. Despite a massive, state-wide search effort, Kyron still has not been found, and no arrests have been made.

Young, who is married to a Medford Police Detective, said she wanted to share her story with the task force to help inspire them to protect local children from a similar tragedy. She said many local law enforcement officers met or knew Kyron.

“When you’re touched by a story like this, and when you connect with a person, and when you’ve met the child that went missing, I think you become a little more passionate about the cause,” she said.

The CART team would combine resources in order to respond quickly during a child abduction. Police say the first few hours during an AMBER Alert are the most important.
Young also hoped to share her experiences with Multnomah County authorities during the search for Kyron. She said law enforcement there stressed the need to share resources and information, and to work with the media to spread the word about the disappearance.

Young said similar emphasis could be made by local law enforcement during child abductions.

“They have made this their mission. To be prepared here in Southern Oregon” Young said.

“It’s like a wakeup call.”

People with information on Kyron’s disappearance are still asked to call the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office Tip Line at 503-261-2847.

1:29 p.m. -- Neighbors stop by Brooks Hill Historic church, across the street from the school, to mull over the investigation. "This kind of thing is unheard of," says Jim Kelley, 50.

Kelley, who lives about a mile and a half down hill, at the end of a winding, secluded country lane off Cornelius Pass, said police, federal agents, K-9 teams and helicopters scoured the area Saturday.

"We had two odd sightings of a vehicle on our road Friday," Kelley said. Around 3 p.m., he and a neighbor reported seeing a white pick-up truck with a female driver pull to the end of the long road, idle and then turn around. Then again at 2 a.m. Saturday morning, a similar white pickup truck appeared, idled and when a neighbor loosed her dogs, eased away.

"A, it was strange to have a car there, any car there, that we didn't know, and B, it was strange to have a vehicle come down our dead-end road twice in the same day, hours after a little boy goes missing," said Kelley. "That's beyond rare."

Kelley said authorities have twice searched the deep ravine, creek and railroad tracks located near the end of his street by air and on foot.

THE 2013 DEPOSITIONS?

Considering the official releases of the past state that Terri was the last known person to be seen with Kyron at Skyline Elementary ... it make sense the investigative conclusion was determined following interrogations of school faculty immediately following the disappearance of Kyron.

If and when deposed by Stephen Houze in 2013 ... it would make sense that the testimonies of Kristine Porter, Easter Mathews and Susan Hall would have affirmed the 2010 words of investigators in official releases.

The 2010 press releases/statements of investigative spokespersons reveal that Terri was the last known person to be seen with Terri on the morning of June 4, 2010.  If any Skyline faculty testified to the contrary when deposed by Houze in 2013 ... it does not make sense that the quest of Kaine and Desiree for answers encompassing the disappearance of their precious son did not change focus.  That focus remains on Terri.

According to Capt. Jason Gates on June 19, 2010 ... "teachers, staff, students and parents had been interviewed -- in some cases, two or three times".  The outcome?  Terri was deemed the last known person to have seen Kyron.

In September, 2013 ... Stephen Houze subpoenaed teachers Kristine Porter and  Easter Mathews as well as school secretary Susan Hall.  Why?  It makes sense that these faculty members would not have obstructed the Kyron Horman investigation for over three years by withholding crucial information.

Could it be that the almost 4 year investigation is layered?  In other words ... Terri is not the only focus.  Could it be that behind the scenes investigative dots are being connected ... investigative dots that unfortunately have not yet led to Kyron's whereabouts?  When the June 11, 2014 custody hearing is considered ... could it be that Kaine's ongoing concern for the well-being of Kiara if Terri were to be afforded parenting time implies that at least one indictment will be handed down with or without all the investigative dots being connected.

Think about it.  Terri's own timeline one day following Kyron's disappearance does not include Magic Cleaners.  Also ... in July, 2010 Magic Cleaners did not appear to be of interest to investigators.

However ... in September, 2013 ... after being served a subpoena by Stephen Houze ... the owner of Magic Cleaners (Sari Shanti) reveals to KGW that Terri had been in her establishment on the morning of June 4, 2010 but she was alone ... no Kiara.  Where was Kiara?  In the truck?  Who was watching her?

Judge Kantor Monday granted a motion filed by Kaine Horman's attorneys to stop Terri Horman's attorneys from questioning deputy O'Donnell.

However, Terri Horman's attorneys can conduct their own investigation. They will be allowed to interview witnesses, including teachers at Skyline Elementary and employees of Fred Meyer, Magic Cleaners and 24-hour Fitness. They will not be allowed to question Skyline students.

Staton said there had been "significant movements" in the 15-week investigation and there was a more defined scope, allowing them to not be as broad in their efforts. Investigators can now concentrate on their current course to support a theory of what happened to the boy. He said he had seen no evidence that indicated Kyron was not alive.

When asked if people would be shocked to find out what they know, Staton took a long silence.

"I know I'm taking a long pause on that, I have to think through that answer. I think there are things that come out of this investigation that will surprise you, that you'll think about later on when it's over. We have a knowledge of things we don't want to know about ... of things we wish we didn't know," he added.

He said investigators were focusing on selective targets in the case that would help "support a conclusion."  ....

Staton said he was briefed with details from prosecutors last Friday and felt comfortable proceeding on the course they were on. ....

My understanding of both the Kyron Horman and the MFH cases has a foundation in the words of Kaine, Desiree and their attorneys ... the words of the judiciary and ... the words of investigative spokespersons ... words derived from statements/releases/court filings/interviews.  I am sceptical of unidentified sources that contradict.

It would make sense that "more than one" circuit judge did not deem ... without a credible foundation ... that there was probable cause to suspect Terri was involved both the Kyron Horman and MFH cases.  When ongoing briefings with investigators are considered ... if Kaine says it ... I believe it!

Judge signs civil no-contact order that requires Terri Horman to stay away from husband and daughter

A Multnomah County judge on Thursday signed a civil order that requires Terri Moulton Horman to have no contact with her estranged husband and their 4-year-old daughter as divorce proceedings resume.

Judge Henry Kantor signed the civil no-contact order Thursday as Kaine Horman dismissed the Family Abuse Prevention Act restraining order he had just renewed for one year against his estranged wife.

The new order says Kaine Horman is awarded exclusive use of the home on Northwest Sheltered Nook Road in Portland, and TERRI HORMAN CAN'T COME WITHIN 150 FEET OF THE HOUSE, KAINE HORMAN'S JOB AT INTEL CORP. IN HILLSBORO, OR HIS GYM IN BEAVERTON.

TERRI HORMAN IS ALSO REQUIRED TO STAY AWAY FROM THE SKYLINE SCHOOL WHERE THEIR MISSING SON KYRON HAD ATTENDED.

The order, which will be in effect as the divorce hearings resume, also prohibits Terri Horman from entering or trying to enter their daughter Kiara's daycare.  Terri Horman agrees not to buy or possess any firearms or ammunition, it says.

The order also was signed by Kaine Horman's lawyer Brett E. Engel and Terri Horman's lawyer, Peter Bunch.
