Miami-Dade Fire Captain Brian Beckmann Demoted Over Facebook Post Blaming Trayvon Martin Situations On 'S**tbag' Parents

.The Miami-Dade Fire Rescue official who wrote on Facebook that "failed, shitbag, ignorant parents" are to blame in cases like the shooting death of unarmed Miami Gardens teen Trayvon Martin has been demoted.

Captain Brian Beckmann, who has been with Fire Rescue since 1997, was demoted two rungs to the lowest rank of firefighter during a Monday morning administrative hearing and will be required to undergo a psychological evaluation and undergo diversity training, as first reported by CBS Miami.

Though the firefighters union said it would appeal the ruling, WSVN reports Beckmann submitted an apology to Fire Chief William Bryson, stating in part:

"I promise that I will try harder than ever to be a decent and professional public servant to the citizens of Miami-Dade County... My family has suffered tremendously and this has been punishment beyond anything I ever imagined."

A screencap of Beckmann's comments was published on TheGrio.com when its source expressed concern at "the thoughts of someone who responds to the homes of the very people" disparaged on his Facebook page, which cites Metro-Dade Firefighters Local 1403.

The post was reportedly published the same night special prosecutor Angela Corey announced second degree murder charges against George Zimmerman, the self-appointed neighborhood watch captain who shot 17-year-old Martin, who is black, after he spotted him walking through his father's gated community in Sanford wearing a hoodie. Wrote Beckmann:

"Listening to Prosecutor Corey blow herself and her staff for five minutes before pre-passing judgment on George Zimmerman. The state seeks reelection again, truth aside. I and my coworkers could rewrite the book on whether our urban youths are victims of racist profiling or products of their failed, shitbag, ignorant, pathetic, welfare dependent excuses for parents, but like Mrs. Corey, we speak only the truth. They're just misunderstood little church going angels and the ghetto hoodie look doesn't have anything to do with why people wonder if they're about to get jacked by a thug."

Though Beckmann defended his right to "freely express an opinion...not embellish or alter the facts," Fire Rescue shortly launched an investigation while outraged citizens took to both the streets in protest and the department's Facebook page to call for his firing.  ::snipping2::

Trayvon Martin mural defaced in Elmwood Park [NJ]

ELMWOOD PARK — A mural created as a tribute to slain Florida teen Trayvon Martin was defaced over the weekend, according to one of its creators.

A photograph provided by Carmelo "Snow" Sigona shows a portion of the mural depicting a faceless individual in a hoodie was apparently painted over using a roller. The new paint appears to be of a shade similar to the original color.

The mural honoring Martin stretches across the side of Messina Deli on East 54th Street and became a hot-button issue after several area residents complained, some citing gang symbolism. A borough building inspector told the artists to paint over the mural, saying it violated a local ordinance. The owner of the building, John Quinn, supported the mural being displayed on his wall.  ::snipping2::

Zimmerman’s father: Our lives will never be the same
George Zimmerman’s father says he is living on the run with his wife and mother-in-law, fearful of death threats made after his son shot Trayvon Martin.

Robert Zimmerman is a retired magistrate living like a fugitive.
He stays in hotels under assumed names. He pays cash so no one will look at his surname and make the connection: This is the father of one of the nation’s most controversial murder defendants.

“It’s been unimaginable,” he said Monday. “Our lives will never be the same.”

Zimmerman, 64, is the father of George Zimmerman, the Central Florida neighborhood watch volunteer who faces a second-degree murder charge for the Feb. 26 killing of Miami Gardens teen Trayvon Martin.

The high school student’s death exploded into a politically volatile case, the kind that drives thousands to the streets in protest — the kind that brings hate mail. Rattled by death threats and shaken by personal information posted on the web, Zimmerman, his wife and his mother-in-law with Alzheimer’s are now on the run, waiting for the trial they are convinced will exonerate their son.

“All of a sudden, it’s pack up what you can and leave,” he said. “Staying in this hotel room or that hotel room.”

His life upside down and expenses soaring, the retired magistrate wants the public to be clear that he has not received a cent of donations from anyone, despite the $204,000 his son has amassed through a website to help pay for his defense. In an interview with the Miami Herald, Zimmerman criticized the media, prosecutors and attorneys who he says have distorted information and spread lies about a man who mentored black kids and was deeply committed to his community. The Virginia native said he’s sure of one thing: his son’s innocence.

He believes medical records and photos will prove his son was injured by Trayvon when the two met in a gated community’s dark pathway. He said voice tests will show George Zimmerman didn’t lie and an eyewitness will back up his account. The girl who claims to have been on the phone talking to the teenager when the incident occurred will be proved a liar, Zimmerman insists.

Do folks even know who these people are? Has a photo ever been posted of them?
George and Cindy were very hated but they stayed in their own home..is it really necessary for GZ's parents to be on the run with an elder person with Alzheimer's?  Couldn't they get police protection if someone came to their home?
Bottom line, they have their son to thank for their inconvenience if u ask me. GZ should have let LE do their job and no one would be in the position that they are in...
These people are inconvenienced which is awful, but a 17 yr old kid is dead..

O'Mara says he got a 'credible threat' as discovery delivered

   ::snipping2:: O'Mara also told Local 6 that as he received the discovery, two police officers were at his law firm in response to a credible threat against him. The threat was checked out and police have since left O'Mara's office. No other details on the threat have been released.   ::snipping2::

Florida stand your ground law cases

The controversial stand your ground law that police initially cited in their decision not to charge the man who shot and killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin has been invoked nearly 200 times statewide since 2005. A Tampa Bay Times survey, compiled from Florida newspapers and public records, shows that police and prosecutors continue to apply the self defense law unevenly.

Not sure if this was ever posted... Jeb Bush comments on SYG -- he was the governor that signed SYG into Florida law.

The article is from end of March -- so it is possible that Jeb has had, or will have, additional thoughts as factual information gets released....I've not been able to find an update from Jeb.

Personally, I was surprised to see Jeb comment publicly on this. He has kept an uber low profile since leaving office.

In Arlington, Jeb Bush says ‘stand your ground’ invalid in Trayvon Martin case

ARLINGTON — Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said Friday that the “stand your ground” self-defense law he signed while in office should not apply to the case of a teenager who was killed by a neighborhood watch volunteer in his home state.

 ::snipping2::

Bush said Friday that he wondered why the investigation has taken so long to reach a conclusion. He said it took several weeks of outrage and media attention for local officials to step up their efforts.

“It doesn’t make sense to me,” he said. Bush added that he didn’t want a rush to judgment, but that officials should be mindful that “there are a lot of people who are very concerned about this.”

“You’ve got to let the judicial process work,” he said. “Hopefully it’s done at a pace that is respectful for people hurting.”

Bush also said that he still liked the law. “Applied properly, I support the law,” he said.

But we're supposed to be a country that believes in justice and freedom.  So, as crowds are calling for the arrest of a man, firing of a firefighter, bounty on a man, these people, who were not involved beyond a familial link, find themselves without their freedom.  Seems to me those calling for justice want justice for themselves and none for anyone else.

BTW, having an elder with Alzheimers in a constantly changing environment is a recipe for chaos.  I can't imagine what that poor dear is going through.

Until we see all the evidence presented, we have no way of knowing exactly what happened that night.  The rallies, the drama, the inserting of voices in the situation does nothing but hinder the judicial process.  IMO

Zimmerman being tracked by sensitive GPS device
Zimmerman being tracked by sensitive GPS device while free on bond in Trayvon Martin case

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- Wherever George Zimmerman went after he was released on bond from a Florida jail, a sensitive GPS device will pinpoint his location for authorities and alert them if he drifts even a few feet away from where he is allowed.

Zimmerman, who is charged with second-degree murder in the killing of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, went into hiding Monday as he awaits trial. He must pay an $8-a-day fee to use the device, which is generally used to track people charged in domestic violence cases.

Local bail bondsmen whose clients have worn the same device used to pinpoint Zimmerman said it is highly sensitive and can send messages to authorities in real-time. Zimmerman had to put up the customary 10 percent of his $150,000 bond to leave jail.

Seminole County Sheriff's officials are offering few details on how Zimmerman will be specifically monitored, other than to say the device he is wearing has the same 24/7 capabilities it uses to track accused domestic violence offenders. Zimmerman may be residing outside of Florida for safety reasons.

The monitoring program has been in use since 2003 in Seminole and provides "real-time monitoring of an offender's movements and is capable of monitoring anywhere in the U.S.," according to a sheriff's office news release. In 2009, the agency said using the devices saved $950,000 by keeping people out of jail.   ::snipping2::

ABC News Exclusive: Zimmerman Medical Report Shows Broken Nose, Lacerations After Trayvon Martin Shooting
May 15, 2012

A medical report compiled by the family physician of accused Trayvon Martin murderer George Zimmerman and obtained exclusively by ABC News found that Zimmerman was diagnosed with a "closed fracture" of his nose, a pair of black eyes, two lacerations to the back of his head and a minor back injury the day after he fatally shot Martin during an alleged altercation.
 ::snipping2::
The record shows that Zimmerman also suffered bruising in the upper lip and cheek and lower back pain. The two lacerations on the back of his head, one of them nearly an inch long, the other about a quarter-inch long, were first revealed in photos obtained exclusively by ABC News last month.

But the report also shows Zimmerman declined hospitalization the night of the shooting, and then declined the advice of his doctor to make a follow-up appointment with an ear nose and throat doctor.

In addition to his physical injuries, Zimmerman complained of stress and "occasional nausea when thinking about the violence." But he was not diagnosed with a concussion. The doctor noted that it was "imperative" that Zimmerman "be seen with [sic] his psychologist for evaluation."

According to the report, prior to the shooting Zimmerman had been prescribed Adderall and Temazepam, medications that can cause side effects such as agitation and mood swings, but in fewer than 10 percent of patients.

Autopsy results show Trayvon Martin had injuries to his knuckles

SANFORD, Fla. —

WFTV has confirmed that autopsy results show 17-year-old Trayvon Martin had injuries to his knuckles when he died.

The information could support George Zimmerman's claim that Martin beat him up before Zimmerman shot and killed him.

The autopsy results come as Zimmerman's attorney, Mark O’Mara continues to go over other evidence in the case.

O’Mara wouldn't comment on the autopsy evidence, but WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer said it's better for the defense than it is for the prosecution.

WFTV has learned that the medical examiner found two injuries on Martin’s body: The fatal gunshot wound and broken skin on his knuckles.

When you compare Trayvon’s non-fatal injury with Zimmerman's bloody head wounds, the autopsy evidence is better for the defense, Sheaffer said.  ::snipping2::

But I thought the incredibly ethical only in this case for justice (cough cough) stated that Trayvon had NO injuries.......Oopsie. I agree this bolsters Zimmerman's case and I read the comments in this article, all it takes is ONE person on the jury that feels like I do, we have the right to defend ourselves, granted Zimmerman should have waited but again where I live we call 911 if we ever see something suspicous and then keep following in a non threatening way the person we consider suspicous, really after the numerous break ins and the woman who had a child, baby IIRC in her home when some thug broke in would more than likely appreciated it if that particular one was followed until LE arrived.

Also I know some are upset because the age of Trayvon, but how many absolutely horrific crimes have been committed by teens. I just read of a 14 yr old that raped a hotel worker, sometimes age has no bearing on whether a thug is a thug. I am NOT stating Trayvon was, but how would you feel if you saw someone that seemed suspicous and did nothing or lost them while waiting for LE to arrive and they raped and/or killed someone??? Also, I agree with whomever stated they felt more threatened or suspicous after seeing someone walk around their neighborhood they knew didn't live there wearing a hoodie....it is what it is. No matter what this is a tragedy for both families and I loathe families who literally make a damn good living off their dead child, really - there the uptick in these families sickens me, grief and anger are totally understandable but making $$$$$$ off their dead child and equally as bad to me is the inciting a race issue, I do fear what will happen if Z isn't found guilty after what we have witnessed with the Rodney King verdict and also the 8 deaths Sharpton is IMO responsible for inciting. I so wish Trayvon's family would get out of the spotlight and away from the race baiting fools they have linked arms with.

Call me crazy, but........do I see hoodies on these thugs who beat the shit out of a soldier who fights for their rights???? Wonder where Sharpton, Jackson , Crump and Holder are......<crickets>, and certainly this can't be a hate crime, nah.....

 ::snipping2::

The manager of the Green Oaks Apartments, where the young man lives, was sickened by what she saw. "I was horrified," said Pat Chumley. "I couldn't believe how bad it looked."

The 24-year-old is stationed at MacDill Air Force Base and arrived from Georgia, sources say, with only the belongings in his car.

Chumley and her friends are working to get some furniture for the soldier since he doesn't even have a bed, they say.

If you watch the surveillance video closely, just seconds before the attack, three men are seen walking ahead of the soldier. Then, one of them walks back and hits the young man in the face. As the soldier falls to the  ground, more men join in on the brutal beating. In fact, another person comes running down the street and joins in.

Tampa Police Lt. Mary O'Connor told 10 News, "It's shocking.  We need to find out who these individuals are."

The young soldier was beaten, kicked, punched, and left in the street. His wallet and phone were stolen. He eventually made his way to a nearby home on Iowa Street, begging a woman to call 911. The woman who placed the emergency call declined to comment.

Chumley says that she and her friends have tried to be somewhat of a mother to the young man. She said, "He'll ask advice from us, you know, we love to give advice. You know how mothers are."

They are hoping to help him when he finally gets home for good. "I'm gonna give him a big hug. You know, he's a young kid."
 ::snipping2::

A group of three young men is seen walking ahead of the soldier. Police say one of the men in the group doubled back and asked to soldier to borrow a dollar. When the soldier reached for his wallet, the first punch flew.

 ::snipping2::
This is another man I will send $$ to, FTLOG he had nothing and yet still reached in his pocket after they doubled back on him.
