Judge: Zimmerman 'manipulated' the system, gets $1M bail
Updated: Jul 05, 2012 12:22 PM CDT

SANFORD, FL (RNN) - George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch captain who admitted to shooting and killing 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, has been granted bail after a judge determined he manipulated facts during his initial bond hearing.

"The defendant has flaunted the system," Judge Kenneth Lester Jr. wrote in court documents. "It appears to this court that the defendant is manipulating the system for his own benefit." ::snipping2::

Seriously? Judge Releases Zimmerman Again!
July 5 '12

In yet another questionable turn of events, Judge Kenneth Lester ordered George Zimmerman, who will soon stand trial for murdering unarmed teen Trayvon Martin, released on $1 million bail, according to the Orlando Sentinel.  ::snipping2::

One has to wonder whether Judge Lester is biased in this case. It is one thing to grant a murderer bail, because obviously, he isn’t being judged on his crime of killing a random teen but on whether he is a flight risk. It is another matter to grant him bail, after it is clear that he purposely lied to the court and withheld pertinent information.

NewsOne just covered a story about a foolish and violent 20-year-old who was sentenced to 161 years for armed robbery. Even though this degenerate is a first-time offender who didn’t harm anyone with his overly aggressive tactics, it is likely he will be denied his request to lighten his sentence.

Zimmerman, on the other hand, did indeed kill an unarmed youth and was caught lying to the court TWICE, yet he is granted bail TWICE. Yes, I’m aware both examples are two distinct cases, with one dealing with a trial and the other dealing with a bond hearing, still one thing is clear: In this country, second chances are available to those with a very specific skin tone.

I read on another forum that FL law allows for bond as long as there's no danger to others and Judge Lester ruled that he felt GZ was not a danger to the public.

O'Mara comments on the $1M bond:

http://www.gzlegalcase.com/

Regarding the One Million Dollar Bond Set for George Zimmerman
05 July 2012

(snip)  George Zimmerman and his family do not have anywhere near $1,000,000 for collateral so even if we pay the $100,000 fee, the bail bond company will have to agree to work with us on how the collateral would be posted. We are encouraged we can work this out. We paid $15,000 initially for the first bail fee so an additional fee of $85,000 would have to be paid to post this new bond assuming we can work out the collateral issue.

Although the Legal Defense Fund has approximately $211,000 at this time, there are about $40,000 in payables for defense expenses so far (not including any attorney's fees) with significant expenses ahead of us for expert witnesses, deposition costs, private security and George's living expenses.  Paying bond and scheduled expenses would effectively wipe out the existing balance.

While it may seem that there is a lot of money in in the fund, this will be a very expensive case to defend and it is clear that the fight will be long and hard. (snip)

REGARDING THE ONE MILLION DOLLAR BOND SET FOR GEORGE ZIMMERMAN
ON 05 JULY 2012.

Today, Judge Lester set George Zimmerman's bond at $1,000.000. In order to get out of jail, Mr. Zimmerman will have to pay a bail bond company $100,000 (10% of the bond amount) and have collateral worth $1,000,000.

George Zimmerman and his family do not have anywhere near $1,000,000 for collateral so even if we pay the $100,000 fee, the bail bond company will have to agree to work with us on how the collateral would be posted.

While Mr. Zimmerman has been in jail awaiting his bond hearing, donations to the George Zimmerman Legal Defense fund have significantly decreased. Supporters have told us they were concerned that the Court would set such a high bond that getting George out of jail could risk wiping out the entire defense account. It appears that they were right. However, George needs an aggressive defense and to help with that he also needs to be out of jail with his wife and family assisting his legal team.

George Zimmerman is not a threat to his community nor is he a flight risk. However, unless we take weeks or months to appeal Judge Lester's order setting bail at $1,000,000, the only way George can get out of jail is to pay a bondsman. This is what we intend to do.

We steadfastly maintain that George Zimmerman acted in self-defense and that he is not guilty of second degree murder.

In the next hours and days the defense team will be working to get George released on bail and on effective strategies for moving forward. Much of our decision making will be based upon the funds available for mounting a defense. In the days surrounding Mr. Zimmerman's initial arrest, supporters surprised everyone with the strength of their donations.

For those who have given in the past, for those who have thought about giving, for those who feel Mr. Zimmerman was justified in his actions, for those who feel they would do the same if they were in Mr. Zimmerman's shoes, for those that think Mr. Zimmerman has been treated unfairly by the media, for those who feel Mr. Zimmerman has been falsely accused as a racist, for those who feel this case is an affront to their constitutional rights -- now is the time to show your support.

The defense fund is at GZDefenseFund.com.

Trayvon Martin's family attorney, Benjamin Crump, released a statement today on behalf of Trayvon's family regarding the second bond issued for George Zimmerman.

“Trayvon’s parents would rather that the killer of their unarmed child remain in jail until the trial, however they respect the ruling of the court and the strong message that the judge sent that deference to judicial integrity is paramount to all court proceedings. Furthermore, they understand that this is not a sprint to justice, but a long journey to justice that they must bear for their son Trayvon.”

I do agree that the message needs to be sent that you MUST NOT manipulate the court system.  I just find it odd that they enforce it with George and his wife and not with the Anthony's (Cindy particularly).

Next Steps For George Zimmerman Defense
on 06 July 2012.

The legal defense team has been working to satisfy George Zimmerman’s bond and secure his release. We are confident that Mr. Zimmerman will be released soon, although the exact time will not be revealed out of respect for the security concerns surrounding his release.

As the terms of Mr. Zimmerman’s bond state that he must remain within Seminole County, Mr. Zimmerman’s security team has established a safe house where he can stay until a more permanent secure location can be established.

Since the $1,000,000 bond was made public on July 5, supporters have donated approximately $20,000. In the two months prior to the Court’s Order Setting Bail, the George Zimmerman Defense Fund had received approximately $55,000.

Once Mr. Zimmerman’s release has been secured we will change our focus from securing bond to the defense of the charges against him.

George Zimmerman could go free today thanks to donations
July 6 '12

SANFORD – Murder defendant George Zimmerman could walk out of the Seminole County Jail today with the help of donations to his legal defense fund.

His lawyer says he's working to pull together enough money to post $1 million in bail and has received about $20,000 from donors since yesterday when Circuit Judge Kenneth Lester Jr. set the bond amount.

He opted to release Zimmerman rather than leave him locked up until trial. Since May, Zimmerman has received $55,000 in cash donations through his defense fund website, Gzlegalcase.com.

Zimmerman's lawyer Mark O'Mara said team had secured a temporary safe house for the 28-year-old, who is charged with killing Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black 17-year-old, Feb. 26 on a Sanford sidewalk.  ::snipping2::

Martin's parents are expected to hold a news conference today in New Orleans alongside the Rev. Al Sharpton and their attorneys to react to the judge's decision. They are in the city for a music festival where Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin are guests in a series of seminars related to the event.  ::snipping2::

The money was donated by supporters, who were making credit card gifts via PayPal and a website Zimmerman and his family set up before his arrest.

In his order, the judge accused Zimmerman of committing a new felony — lying while providing evidence about bail — and hinted that he might be the subject of future contempt proceedings.

Lester was troubled, he wrote, that Zimmerman and his wife hid the money and that George Zimmerman had, until recently, a second, undisclosed passport.

"It is entirely reasonable for this court to find that, but for the requirement that he be placed on electronic monitoring, the defendant and his wife would have fled the United States with at least $130,000 of other people's money," the judge wrote.

Once released, Zimmerman will again be subject to satellite monitoring.

Donations to Zimmerman’s website increase 20-fold
July 6 '12

Donations to George Zimmerman legal defense fund increased nearly 20-fold since a judge ordered a $1 million bond, his attorney said Friday.

A judge announced Thursday that Zimmerman could leave jail pending trial if he posts a $1 million bond. O’Mara said that will cost Zimmerman $85,000 cash, because he already spent $15,000 on a bondsman fee when he was first released in April.

His bond had been revoked, because he misled the court about the amount of money he raised online. A legal defense site that normally gets about $1,000 in donations a day received an outpouring of support in the past 24 hours.

“Since the $1,000,000 bond was made public on July 5, supporters have donated approximately $20,000,” O’Mara said. “In the two months prior to the Court’s Order Setting Bail, the George Zimmerman Defense Fund had received approximately $55,000.”

A temporary safe house has been located where Zimmerman can stay until a more secure location is identified, O’Mara said  ::snipping2::

I love how they keep moving the goal post......first they just wanted an arrest so a jury could decide, then when he was out on bail they were pizzed, then bail revoked and IMO  no doubt to heat from the race baiters now he is out on 1mm bail and there still think he should be in jail.....WTF? I am so sick of this BS, and wish they would disassociate themselves from the Crump, Sharpton, Jackson race baiting agitators and let justice run it's course, but I doubt that will ever happen. Way to profitable to use the death of their son to tour the US and hell, even overseas. But hey - Trayvon is a martyr now. Ecscuse me - I think I puked in my mouth a little.

Oh NVM, his family would be of no use to Crump, Shartpon or Jackson....my bad

George Zimmerman Out of Jail on $1 Million Bond
SANFORD, Fla. July 6, 2012

George Zimmerman walked out of jail on $1 million bond today to await his trial on charges of killing 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

Dressed in a gray suit covering a bullet-proof vest, Zimmerman walked out of Seminole County Correctional Facility just before 3 p.m., flanked by a body guard and an unknown man.

He made no comment to reporters as he climbed into a waiting SUV.

Zimmerman, who is accused of second degree murder in the shooting death of the unarmed teen, used money donated by supporters to pay a portion of the bond.

George Zimmerman leaves Florida jail on $1M bond
Published July 06, 2012

ORLANDO –  Neighborhood watch leader George Zimmerman was released from jail Friday for a second time while he awaits his second-degree murder trial for fatally shooting Trayvon Martin.

Zimmerman left the Seminole County Jail a day after Circuit Judge Kenneth Lester granted a $1 million bail with strict conditions.

The neighborhood watch leader is required to stay in Seminole County. He was allowed to leave Florida after his first release in April. He must be electronically monitored, can't open a bank account, obtain a passport or set foot on the grounds of the local airport. He has a 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew.

"He's very happy to be out," said Don West, one of Zimmerman's attorneys. "Certainly it's been a sobering experience being in that kind of environment."
