The Press Association news agency reported that family members including wife Dwina and brother Barry were at Gibb's bedside in a London hospital.

Bee Gees' Robin Gibb Still in Coma: Brother Barry Sang at His Bedside, Says Wife
April 20, 2012

Robin Gibb is not alone as he fights for his life.

The Bee Gees singer has been in a coma for the last week, and his wife Dwina Gibb tells Ireland's Impartial Reporter that family members been coming and going from his bedside, playing music and singing to "try to bring him back."

"His brother Barry, his wife Linda and son Stephen came over from America," says Dwina, who's been married to the disco-era hitmaker since the 1980s. "Barry was singing to him. Thousands of people are saying prayers every day."

Coma-stricken Bee Gees star Robin Gibb shows 'flicker of life'

LONDON -- Stricken Bee Gee Robin Gibb was showing "flickers of life" in his brave battle to pull out of a coma.

A source close to the 62-year-old music legend, who slipped into unconsciousness last week, told The Sun there had been signs of him recovering Thursday night.

Loved ones have been playing music to try to stimulate a response and elder brother Barry Gibb even sang to him on a visit to his bedside.

The source said, "There were flickers of life from Robin. His eyes moved and there was an attempt at speech."

He added, "It was a good sign he is fighting hard for his life but he is certainly not out of the woods yet. The family have to remain very cautious."

Robin Gibb's wife Dwina and children Melissa, Spencer and RJ have been keeping vigil at his bedside at a private hospital in Chelsea, West London.  ::snipping2::

The Associated Press

LONDON -- Robin Gibb's spokesman says the Bee Gees star has woken from a coma and is showing signs of recovery.

The 62-year-old singer fell into a coma last week after contracting pneumonia.

Doug Wright on Saturday said that Gibb had been able to nod and communicate with his family members, who have surrounded his bedside for almost his entire stay in a central London hospital.

Bee Gees star Robin Gibb has advanced colorectal cancer and remains in intensive care after waking from a coma, his doctor said Sunday. The statement confirmed the exact nature of the illness afflicting the artist.

Dr. Andrew Thillainayagam said Gibb had recently caught pneumonia because he was weakened from chemotherapy and two operations.

The 62-year-old singer fell into a coma last week after contracting the pneumonia. Thillainayagam said that three days ago he had warned Gibb's family that he may not wake up. Instead, Gibb is now fully conscious and able to speak.

Thillainayagam said Gibb is still in intensive care and is "exhausted, extremely weak and malnourished." He is breathing with the help of an oxygen mask and needs intravenous feeding and antibiotics.

"It is testament to Robin's extraordinary courage, iron will and deep reserves of physical strength that he has overcome quite incredible odds to get where he is now," Thillainayagam said in a statement.  ::snipping2::

Gibb 'confounds' doctors by getting better
By the CNN Wire Staff
updated 5:43 AM EDT, Mon April 23, 2012

London (CNN) -- Singer Robin Gibb has "confounded" his doctors by emerging from a coma just days after they thought he might not survive it, his physician said Sunday.

Days ago, Bee Gees star Gibb was in a coma and battling pneumonia, the latest turn in health issues that include a recent battle with colon and liver cancer. Now he is "fully conscious, lucid and able to speak to his loved ones," Dr. Andrew Thillainayagam said in a statement.

"He is breathing on his own, with an oxygen mask. He is on intravenous feeding and antibiotics. He is of course, exhausted, extremely weak and malnourished. Our immediate goals are to ensure that Robin's swallowing mechanism is safe enough to allow him to eat and drink, and that he recovers enough strength to breathe effectively, without needing high levels of oxygen by mask."

When that happens, he may be moved out of the intensive care unit at the London Clinic, the doctor said.

Robin Gibb is determined to stay alive

Robin Gibb told doctors he ''wants to live no matter what.''

The Bee Gees' star has colon and liver cancer, and doctors feared he could die after he contracted pneumonia and sipped into a coma, but his wife Dwnia says he has never stopped fighting.

In an interview with The Sun newspaper, she said: ''The doctors asked Robin if he wanted them to do everything in their power to save his life - or if he felt the time would come when enough was enough.

''He told them, 'There will never be a time when enough is enough. I want to live no matter what.''

Robin astounded doctors by waking up from his coma earlier this week, and is now able to chat with his family, including brother Barry and son Robert-John and breathe with the aid of a mask.  ::snipping2::

Robin Gibb: Bee Gees Singer Learning to Walk Again After Coma

62-year-old Bee Gees singer Robin Gibb is learning how to walk again after spending upwards of 10 days in a coma. The musical icon fell into a coma after a harrowing bout with both colon and liver cancer as well as pneumonia, which left many thinking he had only days left to live. After pulling through, Gibb still has to overcome his atrophied muscles, which have made it difficult for him to walk and to eat.

"He can't wait to go out into the garden with our dogs, Ollie and Missie," Gibb's wife told Hello! Magazine. "But it's going to be a long time before he's strong enough to do that.

"After being fed through a drip and lying in the same position for days, he has to learn to eat and walk again. We know he's very strong, though -- he has faced death and conquered it."

We wish Gibb the best in his recovery.

Robin Gibb to Learn to Walk + Eat Again

Bee Gees star Robin Gibb fell into a coma for around 10 days last month as he was battling cancer. Due to the coma, he will have to learn to walk and eat again. He had defied the odds by regaining consciousness to begin with, so that's a small price for the artist to pay. He is still alive and we're happy about that.

His wife Dwina told HELLO! that Gibb "can't wait to go out into the garden with our dogs, Ollie and Missie. But it's going to be a long time before he's strong enough to do that. After being fed through a drip and lying in the same position for days, he has to learn to eat and walk again. We know he's very strong, though – he has faced death and conquered it."

Robin Gibb wanted ice cream upon waking from coma

Robin Gibb asked for ice cream when he woke from his coma.

The ailing Bee Gees singer lost consciousness for 12 days after contracting pneumonia shortly after battling cancer and when he awoke, he admitted he was suffering from back pain but also requested his favourite foods.

His wife Dwina said: "Words are inadequate to describe how happy and exhilarated I felt [when he woke]. 'Hello, sweetheart', I said and have him a big kiss and a hug. Robin hen looked over at our son and mouthed, 'Hi RJ. My back hurts'.

"He'd been lying flat for 12 days so we called a nurse to move him into a more comfortable position. Then he pulled out his feeding tube and asked for a bowl of ice cream."

Robin's family tried to rouse the star from his coma by playing him music and Dwina revealed it was the star's favourite song from his new 'Titanic Requiem' album that made them realise he was aware of what he was hearing.

She explained to Britain's HELLO! magazine: "One of our favourite tracks, 'Distress', came on. It's a rousing emotive mass sung in Latin and as we played it, his EEG machine, which measures electrical activity in the brain, went mad.

"For us, this was a sure sign that he was responding. So I lifted up one of his headphones and asked, 'Robin, can you hear the music?'

"That's when his eyelids flickers and he looked at me. I couldn't believe it."  ::snipping2::

Friend: Robin Gibb has 50-50 chance of recovering

Jim Dooley, former lead singer of British family band The Dooleys and a Gibb friend, told the paper, "It's 50/50 whether he comes through this but (wife) Dwina is a wonderful woman and she is giving him all the love and TLC you can give."

Dooley told the paper that Gibb, 62, is unable to speak due to a tracheotomy and is communicating by blinking.

"Dwina has said that because he spent so long in a coma there are a lot of things he will have to learn to do again if he comes through it. He will have to re-learn how to walk," Dooley said. "The plan is to get his strength up so he can resume chemotherapy treatment for his cancer."

Pope Benedict XVI reportedly is sending a special blessing for Gibb, Dooley said.

Dooley and Gibb have been working together for four years to raise money for the Bomber Command Memorial in London, a permanent memorial to honor the 55,000 Royal Air Force bomber crew members who died in World War II.  ::snipping2::

Robin Gibb to undergo further chemotherapy
Doctors fear Bee Gee's cancer may have spread to his liver, according to singer's friend

Robin Gibb's illness continues despite a startling recovery from pneumonia, prior to which he spent more than a week in a coma. Doctors are now worried that the singer's cancer has spread to his liver, his friend Jim Dooley told the Daily Telegraph, and it is believed to be "50/50" whether the Bee Gee will come through.

More than two weeks after waking from his coma, Gibb is still in intensive care at a London hospital. Although his doctor said then that Gibb was "fully conscious, lucid and able to speak", the singer has reportedly undergone a tracheotomy and must currently communicate "by blinking his eyes", Dooley said. "The plan is to get his strength up so he can resume chemotherapy treatment for his cancer," he continued.   ::snipping2::
