I'm so thankful for all who have taken time from their lives and searched for Sierra.  It means so much to her family, and I hope they find her soon.

Torres' father held to answer for child molestation, rape
Updated at 08:08 PM today  July 11, 2012

MORGAN HILL, Calif. (KGO) -- The father of the man accused of murdering a Morgan Hill teenager appeared in court himself Wednesday. A judge found enough evidence to try Genaro Garcia Fernandez for sexual assault charges. Garcia Fernandez is the father of Antolin Garcia Torres who's charged in the murder of Sierra LaMar.

Garcia Fernandez was arrested last July on numerous counts of sexual child molestation. A little more than nine months later, Sierra disappeared, and now his son is charged with her murder.

Garcia Fernandez is accused of crimes which could send him to prison for the rest of his life. His son is accused of a murder which makes him eligible for the death penalty. The journey of father and son have collided in the court system.

And so many irresponsible adults who lack the courage and/or training to report the abuse--especially against children.

Sierra LaMar: Murder Suspect's Father Accused of Molesting His Own Daughter
By Erin SherbertFri., Jul. 13 2012 at 1:28 PM

The father of the man charged with kidnapping and murdering 15-year-old Sierra LaMar has been ordered o stand trial on charges of molesting his own daughter for nearly 10 years.

Genaro Garcia Fernandez, 51, was taken into custody last July after his daughter told authorities she was molested starting in 1990, when she was 5 years old, CBS reports.

She claims her father continued to molest her until she was 14. The victim is the sister of 21-year-old Antolin Garcia-Torres, who was arrested in May on suspicion of kidnapping and murdering Sierra LaMar, a Morgan Hill high school cheerleader.

Four months later, volunteers still steadfast in Sierra LaMar search

MORGAN HILL -- Sierra LaMar's parents and sister won't be attending Tuesday's court hearing to see the man accused of kidnapping and murdering the 15-year-old. They can't bear the thought that the person they believe holds the secret to her whereabouts may utter the words "not guilty."

But others who have shown extraordinary devotion to the LaMar family and the search for Sierra for the past four months won't miss it.

Marlene and Steve LaMar and their daughter Danielle are always there to greet the volunteers with hugs and smiles.

"It helps to keep us strong," Marlene LaMar said Saturday. "Knowing they haven't given up on finding her is really good therapy for us."

Sierra LaMar murder suspect does not enter plea, hearing continued to Aug. 29

A hearing for the suspect in the Sierra LaMar murder case was continued until Aug. 29.

Antolin Garcia-Torres, 21, was scheduled to enter a plea during a court hearing this morning, but he did not appear.

Supporters of the family of missing teenager Sierra LaMar held hands and prayed this morning before the hearing.

Garcia-Torres has been held without bail in the Santa Clara County jail since his arrest in May on a charge of murder with the special circumstance of kidnapping.

"We'd like to see Sierra come home and justice served," said Tina Ingenthron, a Morgan Hill resident who was among more than a dozen LaMar family supporters who showed up for court hearing. "It's important to keep the awareness out there. Until she is found, the family needs support and we need volunteers helping because if it were their child, they'd want the same."

There were also members of Garcia-Torres' family in attendance, but they declined to comment before entering the courtroom.

Sierra search center to ‘fine-tune’ strategies
August 14, 2012

The KlaasKids Foundation’s search director will return to Morgan Hill this week to evaluate the volunteer efforts to find missing teen Sierra LaMar, who disappeared March 16.

Foundation search director Brad Dennis will be at the Sierra Search Center, at Burnett Elementary School to “consult search leaders, evaluate progress to date and help to fine-tune search strategies moving forward,” according to a press release from the foundation.

Sierra search center wants more information from sheriff’s office
August 15, 2012

 ::snipping2::
Volunteers from Morgan Hill and surrounding communities, working with Sierra’s family and the KlaasKids Foundation, have done just about everything they can with the information they have, and they hope to enlist more communication this week from the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office to turn the search into a “wonderful collaborative effort,” according to KlaasKids search director Brad Dennis.

“We’re at a physical and emotional level here,” said Dennis, who flew back to the Bay Area from his home in Florida this week to re-evaluate the search efforts. “There’s still a daughter that’s missing, and a family that needs closure, and we’re not getting any closer to that.”

At the Sierra Search Center at Burnett Elementary School Wednesday morning, Dennis praised the sheriff’s investigators’ work in identifying and arresting a suspect in Sierra’s murder and kidnapping, but the need to find Sierra or her remains is a crucially separate aspect to the case.

Since the arrest Antolin Garcia Torres, 21 of Morgan Hill, the lines of communication between the nonprofit foundation and law enforcement have “fallen off.”

“We can bring in a lot more resources if we’re given more information” from law enforcement, Dennis said, adding, “Our goal would be to reach out and make contact with investigators today and see what they’re willing to share with us.”
 ::snipping2::
For their part, sheriff’s investigators haven’t received any new leads or information on the case lately, according to Sgt. Jose Cardoza. He added that the sheriff’s office has worked with the searchers since they started their efforts, but investigators have not provided them any information that has not been released to the general public.

“We’ve never stopped working with the search teams,” Cardoza said. “I’m sure the investigators will continue to work with them.”

Cardoza added that because of the lack of recent leads, the sheriff’s office does not have any planned search efforts coming up, but they will follow up on leads if and when they receive any. The sheriff’s office scoured the earth and water during the first three months of the investigation, even using sonar equipment and sending in divers to reservoirs and other waterways throughout South County.
 ::snipping2::
Sierra’s family have posted a $35,000 reward for information leading to the missing teen’s whereabouts.

Volunteers continue to raise money for the search efforts. At Casa Azteca, 20 N. Abel Street in Milpitas, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday the restaurant will donate 20 percent of food and beverage sales to the search efforts.

On Sept. 15, volunteers will operate an information booth about the search for Sierra at the “Hot Cars and Guitars” concert and car show at Bolado Park in Hollister, according to volunteer Barbara Hammarstrom of San Jose.

That event will feature Shane Dwight and Tommy Castro performing musical acts, as well as food and beverage vendors and camping.

The purpose of the Sierra search volunteers’ booth is to raise awareness and seek donations, Hammarstrom said.

Congressman McNerney to Join Search for Sierra Lamar Saturday

Sierra Lamar has been missing from Morgan Hill since March.

August 17, 2012
Congressman Jerry McNerney, D-Pleasanton, will be joining volunteers this Saturday as the search for missing teenager Sierra LaMar continues into its fifth month.

snip

McNerney will participate in Saturday's 8 a.m. search — his first time working with volunteers to find Sierra as a way to show solidarity with the Morgan Hill community and Sierra's family.

"When things like this happen in the community he acts," McNerney's office spokeswoman Lauren Smith said.

Will Sierra LaMar's Murderer Plea This Time?
August 28, 2012 06:40 AM EDT

The remains of Sierra LaMar have yet to be found, but the man accused of murdering her is still sitting in jail. He is scheduled to enter a plea on Wednesday, but this will be at least the third time the man has had a chance to enter a plea of 'guilty' or 'not guilty.' He's continually made a mockery of this case by refusing each time. Will tomorrow be a repeat of the past couple of times that Antolin Garcia-Torres faced a judge over this case?
