My heart has been in my throat for days with this case, to the point I don't think I can stand to cover it.  I never wrote a begging plea for lives before but if I thought that alone would help, I sure would.

Someone upthread mentioned this case reminded them of Jett Duncan.  For me, he is by far one of the scariest predators ever, who should have been behind bars many years before, and I do not think for a second that all his victims are known.

This case seems to carry the level of evil like his, but that is as far as the similarities go that we know of.

That said, someone is going to need to explain to me in detail, how he left an interview as the last person to see this Mother and her baby girls, without LE doing their diligence while he was being interviewed.  I am not prepared to make a judgement on the issue, but you can bet I am absolutely asking the question.

I am thrilled that the charges against Theresa have been upgraded to murder, and I pray for the safe return of these girls.

More than that, I pray that whatever care and concern for them that Mayes had- to have him act in the manner "he did" in the first place (in his mind) is present for him in a moment of clarity and he lets them go.

They are innocent, and from what I could see, they trusted him and thought of him as their kin.

I have every faith that at the moment they are alive.  I have NEVER seen the FBI take over the jurisdiction like this, and I can tell you these affidavits and charging docs are not even in the system yet- I have access.

Praying with you Blink. Have you ever seen them charge a fugitive on the run with victims/child hostages with Murder?  Could the charges be a ploy to draw him out?

???? what ????  I do not know what is going on here...unless they know exactly where he is and the girls are in danger.  None of this makes sense to me.  The murder 1 charges, the car & tag # sighting for what 10 days now not released, all the other surveillance potentially showing the girls???  I am so confused on wtf they are doing down there.

I have seen pieces of this post but not all of it, this was on Nancy Grace tonight.  I think it's the post that Gary Bain made to Jo Ann (Jodie) Thompson Bain's Facebook wall in the first day or two after she and the girls were taken.  (I tried to type it just as it was shown in different clips on the screen.)

I'm not very good with this Facebook stuff & may be doing this all wrong but here it is anyhow Jodie if you see this I love you & all of our girls u are not a party of my life all of u are my life & I can't imagine it without all of you so please call or just come home there is nothing we can't work thru together we always have & I hope we always will no one is mad at u I just need u & our girls back home safe & sound.  I would also li8ke to thank everyone who is working so hard to find my family.  All the officers of the Hardeman county sheriffs office as well as all our friends & relatives who are working so hard to get them home safely.

Nevertheless ... this FB plea by Gary to his wife seems to imply that he believed at this point in time Jo-Ann took the girls and willingly left with Adam.  Could this be the reason for the delayed Amber Alert and ... could this be was why investigators did not detain him when he was brought in for questioning?

I don't buy this story at all, as fact. He could have just taken the girls, but he took mom, older sis, (which he killed them) and the 2 younger girls.  I think he's a pedophile and that was how he justified his presence with the girls to outsiders.  moo

I too have a feeling that these little girls are alive.  According to Teresa ... the planned kidnapping of the two youngest siblings is what led to the tragic chain of events.

Nevertheless ... I fear that the release of the affidavit revealing Teresa's tell-all confession may be the catalyst that will cause Adam to snap ... Teresa's tell-all confession implicating him in the happenings encompassing the demise and disappearing of Jo-Ann and her eldest daughter.

In some situations I struggle in my attempt to apply the principles of my faith.  The unknown regarding the well-being of these two little girls is one of those situations.  As I am very anxious while I await the outcome.  I have a ten year old granddaughter.

I wonder if the timing of the charges has to do with putting him on the 10 most wanted list. I think they wanted him on the list for the increased awareness and having him actually charged contributes to him being on the list. (I don't know how they usually decide who to put on.. But maybe the charges are needed or it just underlines the urgency of the situation.)

I just noticed the charges coincided with today's 10 most wanted announcement.

Mother of Accused Killer Speaks Out About Adam Mayes

UNION COUNTY, MS (abc24.com) - The mother of one of those charged in the murder of Jo Ann Bain and her daughter Adrienne is speaking out.

Josephine Tate, the mother of Teresa Mayes, says she's known Adam Mayes since he was little.

"We met Adam when he was 10 years old and his whole family is weird. Strange. Different. Whatever you want to call them," Tate said by phone from her Chatsworth, GA home.

"He was always a control freak," she added. "When he married my daughter 12 years ago, first off we begged my daughter not to marry him because we knew how he was, he was a moocher, he didn't hold a job, he mooched of his mom and dad."

Tate says her daughter has long been diagnosed with a mild form of retardation and that her diploma from Southeast High School in Dalton, GA, is a special education diploma.

"Two years ago, Teresa called me at home, and was crying and wanted to know if she can come home, that she was tired of getting slammed against the wall, knocked around, and beat on."

Tate says she and her husband sent Teresa a bus ticket to come. When they picked up Teresa, she was covered in bruises. Tate now wonders if there were warning signs.

"He does not believe in taking a bath, or shower, said he didn't like the feel of water on his skin," Tate said of Adam Mayes.

She says he also had odd eating habits.

"When he was 10 years old, the absolute only, only, foods he would eat, was a type of tomato soup his mother would make for him, peanut butter and crackers, and they had to be a certain brand of crackers, saltine crackers, he would have his mother put peanut butter on one cracker, mayonnaise on the other cracker and put them together.

"When he would get the Big Mac, he would have his mother take a knife and scrape the sauce off, but if we ordered it with no sauce, he wouldn't eat it. 4:54 said he had a fear of choking on lettuce or the little bits and pieces that were in the sauce."

Tate says her daughter long suspected Mayes was having an affair with Jo Ann Bain, and that Mayes would go around telling people Bain's two youngest daughters were his.

Tate reflected on a conversation she had with her daughter two years ago.

"[Teresa] stated that the reason they were arguing so much was because Adam had these two children that he claimed were his, and she suspected that he was having an affair with their mother, but she couldn't prove it."

Tate says she's afraid of what Adam will do next.

"I will tell everybody, the guns I do have in my home are loaded and if he comes here I will call the law, but I will also do what it takes to protect myself," she said.

Tate says she hasn't talked to her daughter since her arrest, and fears what this will do to Teresa's grandmother, who is suffering from dementia.

"I'm numb. I'm in disbelief, I'm hurt, and not only has the Bain family been destroyed, but he is tearing my family apart too."

Adam and Teresa Mayes are both charged with two counts of First Degree Murder for the deaths of 31-year-old Jo Ann Bain and her 14-year-old daughter Adrienne Bain in Hardeman County, Tenn. on April 27.

They also face two counts of especially aggravated kidnapping for the abduction of 12-year-old Alexandria Bain and 8-year-old Kyliyah Bain. Teresa Mayes remains in the Hardeman County Jail without bond.

Adam Mayes was last seen in Guntown on May 1 and is considered armed and dangerous. He was placed on the FBI's Most Wanted list, which increases the reward to a total of $171,000 for information leading to Mayes’ arrest and the location of Alexandria and Kyliyah Bain.

If Teresa Mayes is telling the truth, this statement could not possibly be true.

And with the knowledge of her mental issues, I don't believe the charges against her would have been upgraded today without EVIDENCE to back those statements up!

From the recent reports and documents of her statements, if what she's said is true; Jo Ann Bain never drove away from her home that morning.

She was already dead, and her oldest daughter Adrienne was too.

If what Teresa Mays said is true, someone else drove Jo Ann's Dodge Durango away from her home and left it to be found about three miles away.  Someone wanted to make it LOOK LIKE Jo Ann left her home with her daughters willingly that morning, and then abandoned her vehicle.  The doubt about that delayed an Amber Alert for how long?  About a week?

So...WHO said they saw them leave?

Could it have been the murderer(s)?

Remember that the first warrant for Adam Mayes was for filing a false report.

Please remember that, and remember that Gary Bain may have also been lied to about some things before he knew Adam Mayes was a person of interest in this case.  Seems to me that it might have been very important for Gary Bain to believe that Jo Ann may have left him and taken her daughters willingly!

IIRC, Gary Bain made that post on Facebook before Adam Mayes was named a person of interest.

I can't decide if it's all in his head - as in there's no possible way they are his and he still believes its possible. Or if it's all in his head.. In that him claiming they were his was for outsiders to accept the weird attachment he seemed to have with them.

I don't believe they are his either. I just wonder if the Bains knew he was claiming they were his? It sounded like his neighbors and relatives all knew he claimed it.

Johnny Lee Mayes II, who now lives in Cowpens, said Wednesday that he and Adam Mayes are two of six siblings raised by their parents, Johnny and Mary Frances Mayes. Mary Frances Mayes is originally from Gaffney and still has relatives here, said Johnny Mayes II, 44.

“When we were growing up, we moved around everywhere,” Johnny Mayes II said. “That's why my brother has ties to places all over the country, because we lived sort of this nomadic lifestyle. ... I don't know why. We lived in the Carolinas for most of our lives. And I settled in Cowpens, and they moved to Tennessee.”

Johnny Mayes II said the family once lived in Texas for nine years, the longest period they stayed anywhere.

Mary Frances Mayes, their mother, has been charged with four counts of conspiracy to commit especially aggravated kidnapping.

Mary Frances Mayes and Teresa Mayes watched Adam Mayes dig a hole behind the Mississippi mobile home where the bodies of the two females were eventually discovered, the AP reports. Teresa Mayes' sister later called authorities after she learned of the incident.

Johnny Mayes II has had little contact with his siblings or parents since 1996, until six months ago when his sister, Pamela Bain, reached out to him.

There are reports that Adam Mayes and Gary Bain were once married to sisters, but Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Kristin Helm said that is not correct. Helm confirmed Wednesday that Gary Bain and Adam Mayes became acquainted when Gary and Pamela Bain were married years ago. After their divorce, Adam Mayes kept in touch with Gary Bain, who later married Jo Ann Bain.

Jo Ann Bain's daughters considered Adam Mayes an “uncle” and a close family friend.

Johnny Mayes II said his mother and Adam Mayes, the youngest of the Mayes children, had a close relationship.

“She didn't have feelings for any of us except Adam,” said Johnny Mayes II, who described his brother as self-centered, egotistical and controlling, particularly with his parents.
