is it possible mayes presented himself and his challenged wife as an unfortunate childless couple and thereby was given leeway to play Auntie and Uncle to the children of others.   A perfect storm for an alleged tenancious pedophile.

That's good news. They are going to have a long road to recovery. I thought the FBI and the other law officials were  going to give a conference this morning. I am so happy the found the girls and they weren't harmed.

Adam Mayes' Former Relative Apologizes To Bain Sisters

One woman who is especially relieved is Josie Tate, Mayes' former mother-in-law.

Tate, who lives in Chatsworth, Georgia, spoke with NewsChannel 9 on the phone just minutes after the news broke. She has a message for the Bain sisters.

"I am so very sorry, that someone that was related to me by marriage done this horrible thing to your family. I am so very sorry," Tate said.

With relief comes worry for Tate. Her daughter, 31-year-old Teresa Mayes, Adam's ex-wife, is still facing murder and kidnapping charges for her role in the Bain family's disappearance.

"There's no one else to share the punishment now. She's going to get the brunt of the punishment," Tate said. "She was brainwashed. She was coerced. She was scared to disobey Adam."

GUNTOWN, Miss. (AP) – Two girls who police say were kidnapped by a man accused of killing their mother and older sister have been released from a Memphis hospital.

Sara Burnett, a spokeswoman for Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis, said 12-year-old Alexandria Bain and 8-year-old Kyliyah Bain were treated and released from the hospital early Friday.

Burnett said she didn't have details on their conditions, but law enforcement officers said the girls were suffering from exposure, dehydration and poison ivy after they were rescued Thursday in northern Mississippi.

After getting a tip, law enforcement officers were sent to search a densely wooded area west of Mayes' home in Guntown, Miss., said Aaron T. Ford, special agent in charge of the FBI's Memphis, Tenn., office.

At 6:50 p.m. Thursday, an officer saw Alexandria Bain in an area about 100 yards behind a church, Ford said. Officers shouted commands for Mayes to show his hands, Ford said. But Mayes pulled a semiautomatic pistol from his waistband and shot himself in the head, Ford said.

Law enforcement officers moved in to rescue the two girls, who were lying on the ground nearby. Ford said they looked like they had been in the woods for two or three days.

"They were immediately given water as they were escorted to safety," Ford said. The girls were hospitalized "as a precaution," he said.

Ford and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Director Mark Gwyn said authorities still had many unanswered questions and were continuing their investigation. They did not say how the girls and Mayes were able to survive in the woods.

Gwyn did not say whether there was specific evidence of people helping Mayes in Tennessee and Mississippi but added that investigators were still looking into that possibility and anyone found to have helped Mayes would be held responsible.

I read that Mayes and Mr. Bain were married to sisters, it means that Mayes and Mr. Bain knew each other before Mr. Bain married Jodie. Maybe I am wrong but I heard that the first two girls were Jodie's daughters with other father and the last kid was only Mr. Bain’s kid. If it is true, it is no way for Mayes to think that the "second child is his kid" because he didn’t  know Jodie  before she married Mr. Bain or probably Jodie and Mayes knew each other before she married Mr. bain?..I would like to know how and when Jodie met Mayes, and also I would like to know alittle bit  about the sisters were married with Mayes and Mr. Bain, are they still alive? maybe I will understand why he kidnaped the second child and why he believed that she was his daughter.

Madison County deputies investigated Adam Mayes, 35, of Guntown, Miss., when he and his wife Teresa lived in a now abandoned home in the 3300-block of Riverside Drive.

In that report, deputies investigated a family member's claim that she walked into the bathroom and found Adam Mayes and then-7-year-old Kyliyah naked. He was shaving her legs. The family member also claimed Mayes kept a stash of child pornography in his bedroom.

After an extensive two-month investigation by the Madison County Sheriff's Department, U.S. Postal Service, State Department of Child Services and an interview with Kyliyah, Mayes was cleared.

The February 2010 report also shows just how often Adam Mayes saw the Bain sisters. Teresa told investigators they young girls stayed with them once or twice a month, a claim back up by neighbors.

"They seemed to love him," said a next door neighbor who asked not to be identified by name. "He'd bring them up on the weekends and in the summer when school was out."

I gotta say, he was cleared, but this couple's status was absolutely unstable, I am at a loss as to why Gary and Jo Ann would allow them around the kids in the first place.

I really want to know the timeline of this case, so we can pull out the "what not to do" things for families in any similar situation, Mayes and his Mom and wife are to blame, absolutely, but what could have prevented this?

If he had been reported for child abuse in 2010, he sure wouldn't have maintained a strong relationship with my children.  Are these people nuts or just lazy?  Instead of hiring a teenage girl to babysit, they leave their daughters with this pervert.  If I had caught him shaving my 7 year old's legs there wouldn't have been much of him left to investigate.  Why don't people understand there are boundaries that you just don't let strangers invade.  The leg shaving is part of the grooming routine that pedophiles use to endear themselves to their victims.  Yes, the girls said they loved him.  He manipulated them into that deep of attachment so he could get away with doing what the girls knew was wrong.  There may not be much that comes out about Mayes abusing these girls, but if it hadn't happened, which I doubt, he was working on it.
