Logic does not dictate Mr. Bain "should have manned up" etc.  Logic does not dictate being distraught would have prevented him from speaking to the media and thus satisfying whatever.
Obviously, or should I say logic dictates that the finding of these children was being handled by the professionals.
I am asking you kindly to give it a break.  Can we not celebrate the recovery of these two children?

Sorry Sister if I sounded petty. I too am rejoicing that the girls are safe and physically unharmed. None of us know what we would do if we were in their shoes. I am sure the FBI advised Gary Bain and The Johnson man on what to say or not say. I commend all of LEO who worked so diligently for the best outcome to an already horrible situation.
Darla, you didn't sound petty.  I too am rejoicing.  These girls have a tough road ahead of them.  Prayers for the family.

Hallelujah Sister!  Well said.

I have been afraid all along that he would kill those girls in a final confrontation.
It seems that was not an option due to the physical positioning of all parties.  IMO, but will wait to learn more details.

THANK YOU, Sister.   an angelic monkey

There was a question posed to a member of LE in a video I've watched about this case.  I don't remember now if it was the Hardeman County Sheriff Doolen (maybe in that first press conference) now or someone else.  The question was in effect if Gary Bain was involved in any way in the crimes against his family.  If I come across it again I will post it.

The answer to the question was, HE IS A VICTIM.  And that was the end of it.

Gary Bain did speak to the media to say that he wouldn't be speaking with them until the Hardeman County Sheriff told him it was o.k. to do so, I've posted about that statement with a link earlier.

texasmom, I know you had posted it and I appreciated it so much.  Yes, he is a a victim and needs our thoughts and prayers IMO.  Thank you.

Authorities: Kidnapped girls didn't eat for days
ADRIAN SAINZ, Associated Press, HOLBROOK MOHR, Associated Press

GUNTOWN, Miss. (AP) — Hope was fading that two young sisters abducted from their Tennessee home would be found alive two weeks after they vanished: Their kidnapper had already killed their mother and sister, and he was armed with a pistol as officers closed in.

Adam Mayes could have killed them days ago, could have left them in the woods as he fled for another hideout, could have shot them in desperation as he was surrounded by officers. Yet 12-year-old Alexandria and 8-year-old Kyliyah Bain went home to their father Friday alive, with no apparent injuries other than being tired, scared and itchy from poison ivy. They also told the officers who found them that they had not had food or water for three days, said Mississippi Highway Patrol Master Sgt. Steve Crawford.

Good Morning Monkeys and Guest!

So glad to hear the girls have been released and were not seriously hurt.

The more that comes out the madder I get. Why was this man even allowed near the girls. Much less having overnight visitations at his home with a mentally ill wife and mother from hell. I know that Adam, Teresa and Mary are ultimately responsible for what happened here, but geesh, how many cases have we followed that the parents make such bad choices that they ultimately hand their children over to the wolves? I am not sure that the girls should be put back into the care of Gary Bain. My heart breaks for these precious girls and what they have been through. How do they recover from something this horrific?
Even though the investigations into the allegations of him being naked in the bathroom turned up nothing substantial he would have been missing those appendages that men take so much pride in and most likely his head if this had been my child and he sure as hell would not be around my children again. We all have read how well the CPS does their jobs. Just sickening to me. Wake up parents and take care of the precious gifts God has given you!

Darla

The red flags were all there.  Why?

I did see the Police Conference on HLN.  Apparently ... a tip let investigators to the area around the church.  The team came across Adam and the girls lying down on the ground attempting to hide.  Adam got up and shot himself inches away from the girls.  A memory that will be sketched in their minds for a lifetime.  Anyways ... a transcript/video should be posted soon.

 ::snipping2::
n that report, deputies investigated a family member's claim that she walked into the bathroom and found Adam Mayes and then-7-year-old Kyliyah naked. He was shaving her legs. The family member also claimed Mayes kept a stash of child pornography in his bedroom.
 ::snipping2::

When I first read this, I took it as only Kyliyah was naked.  Then I read your comment.   I feel it was only Kyliyah that was naked, or I don't think things would have been dropped.  jmo  We also know that CPS drops the ball all the time where our innocent children are concerned....or just look the other way as it causes too much work for them.   I sure would like to read that report for myself.  In either case, those children should never have been allowed around AM for any reason.  again, just my opinion

I feel the same way.  I cannot comprehend Gary and Jo-Ann's thought process.

Authorities: Kidnapped girls didn't eat for days

<snipped>

The area is popular for hunting, and officials said at a news conference Friday that the area is filled with old deer camps.

An officer combing through the area spotted Alexandria Bain face down on the ground Thursday evening about 100 yards behind a church. They also saw the younger girl and Mayes prone on the ground. Officers yelled for Mayes to show his hands, but he got to his knees, pulled a 9mm pistol from his waistband and shot himself in the head, said Aaron T. Ford, special agent in charge of the FBI's Memphis, Tenn., office. Mayes did not say anything before shooting himself, and he did not brandish the gun toward the girls or officers.

The girls only sat up and stayed in place when Mayes shot himself, said Lt. Lee Ellington with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks.

"They were rather stoic in one sense and relieved," he said. "I heard the older girl tell her sister, 'Now we can go home.'"

If this is true, he didn't dye their hair.  Hope he didn't cut it either.  Just seems to me it will be at least a little easier for them to go back to their daily lives without having to deal with changes to their appearance made by a monster.  They will have more than enough to deal with as it is.

Kidnapped Girls Had No Food or Water, Could Not Speak

Missing Tennessee Girls: Suspect on 10 Most Wanted

By COLLEEN CURRY and YUNJI DeNIES
GUNTOWN, Miss. May 11, 2012

A small blonde child peeking over a ridge and spotted by Mississippi state highway troopers led to the rescue of Alexandria and Kyliyah Bain, ages 12 and 8, from kidnapper Adam Mayes on Thursday night, police said in a news conference today.

Moments later, Mayes -- kneeling in the grass next to the children -- shot himself in what his mother-in-law called the "coward's way out."

"We saw something lying down by the wood line that caught our attention. We took another five steps, and I gazed around and saw one of the children. An officer started hollering, 'Get your hands up,'" said Master Sgt. Steve Crawford at a news conference today.

The highway patrol and state fish and wildlife officers were searching the wooded area for a cabin that they were told Mayes, 35, may have been hiding in with the two girls he kidnapped two weeks earlier from their home in Tennessee.

Mayes is also suspected of killing the girls' sister, Adrienne, 14, and mother, JoAnn, 37, in order to kidnap the younger girls, whom he thought were his children, relatives have said. The girls had been living with JoAnn and her husband, Gary Bain, and the family was planning to move to Arizona at the end of the school year.

As police searched for the cabin last night, they caught sight of one girl and then another and, finally Mayes' head popped up.

"All three were lying face down on the ground trying to take cover," Crawford said.

The girls slowly raised their hands at the officers' command, but Mayes raised only one hand, the officer said.

"Mayes raised his hand and I could see the gun. I hollered 'gun' three times to let my team know, and then Mayes got on his knees. He never brandished the gun toward us, but at that time he took his life," Crawford said.

The girls, who had been in the forest without food or water for three days, were "eaten up with poison ivy and insect bites," another officer said. He said they were shaken and unable to speak much, but didn't cry.

"When these children get to where they can speak, and calm down, I'm sure we'll find out" more details, a police spokesman said.
