Missing teen Jodi Henrickson was last seen on Bowen June 20.

The RCMP and parents of Jodi Henrickson held a news conference on Bowen Island on Saturday morning, saying they have not given up hope of finding the missing teenager.

Henrickson’s mother, Nancy Henrickson, said that each morning she wakes up wondering if it will be the day that her daughter is found.

Her mother said she feels her daughter is “being held against her will” and her husband, Bob Henrickson, agrees.

In an impassioned plea, Nancy Henrickson told her daughter that if she was with someone to “hang in there and be strong, Sweetie, because we’re looking for you and we’re gonna find you”.

At the conference, held in front of the RCMP building on Miller Road on Bowen, Cpl. Dave Ritchie said that the family has been told that there is a “possibility that this is a homicide, that foul play is involved.”

However, he says, the focus remains on looking for Jodi and finding her alive.

Both the RCMP and Jodi’s parents said they believe she is still on Bowen Island.

Meanwhile, Gavin Arnott, the ex-boyfriend of Henrickson, spoke with CTV News on Saturday, the first time he has spoken to TV news media since the disappearance of his former girlfriend. He said that he is not concerned about attention upon himself, but only concerned about Jodi.

Henrickson was last reported seen by Arnott in the early morning hours of June 20 on Bowen, this after she had been to two parties on the Island. She was not seen leaving the Island and the Squamish teen has not been heard from since.

Cpl. Ritchie declined to say whether Arnott – or anyone else – is a suspect. In recent conversations with The Undercurrent, Ritchie has maintained that investigators are still “just naming Jodi in the file.”

Disappearance of girl still a mystery

News ServicesAugust 28, 2009

Since Jodi Henrickson went missing on Bowen Island on June 20, theories and rumours have abounded as to her disappearance.

But for now, a simple, pressing question continues to plague those who know and love the 17-year-old Squamish teen. What happened to her?

"The family is very upset by all of this. We just need to find answers, that's all," said the girl's aunt, Ina Henrickson. "We need to find Jodi."

Henrickson was last seen after Henrickson was reported missing June 24. An extensive search of the island, which for two days involved 30 people in search-and-rescue crews failed to find the missing girl.

Investigators believe missing Squamish teen Jodi Henrickson is dead

Jodi Henrickson, 27, went missing after leaving a house party in June 2009.Photograph by: Handout, Henrickson familyPolice are treating the 2009 disappearance of a 17-year-old girl on Bowen Island as a homicide.

Jodi Henrickson went missing early on June 20, between 4 and 6:30 a.m., after leaving a house party. She was on the island for the weekend to visit friends.

Ex-boyfriend Gavin Arnott said he walked with Henrickson along Miller Road at around 5:30 a.m. They had a tense conversation, he said, and he walked away, leaving her on the road.

Henrickson wasn't reported missing until June 24 by her family, who didn't expect her home in Squamish until then.

Henrickson would have turned 18 on Feb. 23.

Sea-to-Sky Regional Police Service and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team have been extensively investigating the case since Henrickson went missing, but will renew their inquiries on Bowen Island during the next few weeks.

Police believe that she was a victim of foul play. Although there have been numerous tips and possible sightings of Henrickson, all have proven to be unfounded.

Investigators don't think Jodi ran away or that she made it off the island on her own accord. Her disappearance has been classified as a homicide.

Anyone with information should contact the General Investigation Section at Squamish RCMP detachment 604-892-6100. If you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Bowen Island disappearance a homicide: police
Last Updated: Thursday, March 4, 2010 | 1:05 PM PT
CBC News
Jodi Henrickson was last seen at a house party on June 20 on Bowen Island. (Facebook)
The mysterious disappearance of a Squamish teenager nine months ago on Bowen Island is now considered a homicide, RCMP in B.C. say.

Until recently Investigators were treating the June 20 disappearance of Jodi Henrickson, 17, as a missing person case, but on Wednesday they said new details have convinced them she is a victim of foul play and have returned to Bowen Island to take another look at the case

"Investigators do not believe that Jodi ran away, nor that she made it off Bowen Island on her own accord. Police are classifying this as a homicide at this time," said a statement issued by police on Wednesday

Henrickson was last seen around dawn after attending at least one house party on the island, located in Howe Sound, a short ferry ride from West Vancouver.

Jodi Henrickson's family handed out flyers and put up posters at the Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal following her dissappearance last summer. (CBC)
The investigators also reiterated a previous claim that they believe some islanders are holding back information about the case.

"Police believe that there are parties on Bowen Island who may have information and be able to assist in this investigation, and are unwilling or hesitant to come forward. There are other parties who refuse to co-operate with the investigation at this time," said police.

"To date numerous tips and possible sightings have been reported. All have proven to be unfounded," said the statement.

Henrickson would have celebrated her 18th birthday on Feb. 23, said police.

Expect more police presence: RCMP

Bowen Island Undercurrent

The RCMP will be a visible presence on the island in the coming weeks.

In his report to council on Monday night, Cpl. Don Southern said teenager Jodi Henrickson’s disappearance last summer is now being actively investigated as a homicide.

“[RCMP officers] are here on a regular basis. I’m expecting we’ll see more activity as they re-visit” aspects of the investigation, he said.

Henrickson has not been seen since she attended a party on Bowen Island last June.

As well, he’s requested that the RCMP’s commercial vehicle enforcement unit come to the island to do random blitzes after he heard of complaints of speeding logging trucks.

“Generally there are quite a few issues that came forward,” he said, adding that while there were postings about logging trucks on the forum, no one called the RCMP to look into the matter. He found out about it only after someone drew his attention to the postings.

“No one picked up the phone and said, ‘Can you do some patrols and do something about it?’”

The RCMP is being more strategic about its traffic blitzes, focusing primarily on people speeding to get to the ferry. The need to keep people from speeding needs to be balanced with “the excellent relationship we have with the people of Bowen.”

Last year three drivers were charged with impaired driving.

Later questioned by Councillor Alison Morse about new drinking and driving penalties, Cpl. Southern said they have not yet passed into law. The changes relate to driving with a blood alcohol level of between 0.05 and 0.08. Right now, if a breathalyzer shows you are between those levels, you face a 24-hour immediate suspension of your driver’s licence.

Cpl. Southern noted that there has been only one request for the portable radar speed detector. Volunteers who previously did spot radar checks to let drivers know how fast they were driving are no longer involved. He’d like to do a blitz that combines volunteer radar checks with police radar checks farther down the road.

Annual statistics

There was an increase of 86 calls in 2009 compared to 2008, Cpl. Southern reported.

Most of the increase is related to traffic checks for such things as speeding and wearing seatbelts. He said there is a very high compliance rate with seatbelt laws.

“The big three for traffic violations are speed, alcohol and seatbelts,” he said.

Property damage reports increased from 28 in 2008 to 45 in 2009 but most were minor, including painting or knocking down signs.

Drug offences went from eight to 11 and there was one grow-op with 200 marijuana plants found. That case is still before the courts.

Break and enters were down.

New officers

Two new officers will soon be arriving on the island, Const. Bryan Mulrooney and Const. Chris Froats, both “solid family people.”

Cpl. Southern said that he is looking for a promotional move to another detachment or a lateral move to Vancouver Island, where he’s from.

In the above article it says there is a problem with speeding logging trucks.

I wonder if she was hit by one?  She was last seen by the highway I believe.

Decomposing body found on Bowen Island, unknown if missing teen

5-20-12

Vancouver - A body the RCMP describe as 'decomposing' has been found on Bowen Island but it's not known if it is a teenaged girl missing almost three years. Jodi Henrickson went missing on the island after attending a house party there on June 20, 2009.

The body was found in the Harding Road area of the island by a man walking on his property at approximately 2 p.m. on Friday the 18th. The search for Hendrickson is being conducted by the RCMP's Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) and their statement says they are suspicious of how this person died but not connecting the body to Henrickson.

Many prayers for the Henrickson family as they wait for the test results.
Hopefully some family will be able to bring their loved one home.

Heavily decomposed body found on Bowen Island

 ::snipping2::

A witness told CTV News the head was covered with a plastic bag and the body was wearing dark clothing with black Nike shoes. Police say the body is too badly decomposed to tell whether it's a man or a woman.

Although police say the death is suspicious, it has not been confirmed as a homicide.

"We're having issues of decomposition. So at this point we really need an autopsy to shine some light onto the answers that we're looking into such as the victim's identity, including how long the body might have been there for and really the cause of death," Sgt. Jennifer Pound told CTV News.

The discovery comes three years after 17-year-old Jodi Henrickson vanished from Bowen Island. Police have since ruled her case a homicide, although the teenager's body has never been found.

Investigators say there's no reason to link the human remains with Henrickson's disappearance.

But there are coincidences in the two cases. Henrickson was last seen at a party down the road from where the body was discovered.

Also, the man considered a person of interest in the teenager's homicide – her ex-boyfriend Gavin Arnott – used to live in a trailer on the property where the body was found.

While forensic crews combed the area for clues on Saturday, neighbours say they could smell the decomposing body for days.

Body found on Bowen Island

POLICE investigating the discovery of a body in a bushy area of Bowen Island say the remains are likely not those of missing Squamish teen Jodi Henrickson.

"We don't feel it's connected to that case," said Sgt. Jennifer Pound, spokeswoman for the RCMP's Integrated Homicide Investigation Team. Pound said investigators ruled out that the body was Henrickson early on, although she declined to say how police did that.

Jodi Henrickson went missing in 2009.  Three years later wouldn't a body be beyond "decomposing"?  Wouldn't a body be nothing but a skeleton?

Could the "decomposing" state be why authorities suspect the remains are not that of Jodi?

Over the years ...our boating holidays have taken us to Bowen Island many times.  I have fond memories of the Sunday market consisting of local crafts ... the triple scoop homemade ice cream cones and ... the hours exploring the beauty of the Island on foot with kids trailing behind complaining ... "I'm hot ... my feet hurt .... I'm tired ... I'm thirsty".  This was before "water bottles".

Body found on Bowen Island likely not missing Squamish teen
North Shore News May 23, 2012 11:20 AM

Police investigating the discovery of a body in a bushy area of Bowen Island say the remains are likely not those of missing Squamish teen Jodi Henrickson.

"We don't feel it's connected to that case," said Sgt. Jennifer Pound, spokeswoman for the RCMP's Integrated Homicide Investigation Team. Pound said investigators ruled out that the body was Henrickson early on, although she declined to say how police did that.

Bowen Island RCMP were called out Friday at around 2 p.m. by a local resident who had discovered the body on his land, a wooded property in the 1,000 block of Harding Road.

An autopsy is to be performed Tuesday to try to identify the victim and the likely cause of death.

<snipped>

So far investigators have not confirmed whether the body - which was badly decomposed - is male or female. "We believe the body was there for quite some time," said Pound.

Lloyd Harding, who lives on Harding Road, said he was walking down to his mailbox with his son's dog at the end of last week when the Jack Russell terrier tried to drag him into the bush.

Harding said he noticed a bad smell in the area. "I thought someone had hit a deer he said."

Harding said he's walked right by the area where the body was found before but didn't see anything or notice any smell in the area before last week's spell of hot weather
.

Police are currently checking missing persons reports to see if they can help identify the remains.

Henrickson, then 17, disappeared three years ago on June 20, 2009 after leaving a house party on Bowen Island with her ex-boyfriend Gavin Arnott. Neither Henrickson nor any signs of her have shown up since then, despite several searches by both police and volunteers.

Autopsy identifies Bowen Island male body, rules out missing teen Jodi Henrickson
The Province May 24, 2012 12:30 PM

After an autopsy, the RCMP have determined that human remains found Friday on Bowen Island are not those of missing Squamish teen Jodi Henrickson.

She attended a house party on the island in June of 2009 and disappeared afterward.

The autopsy was conducted Wednesday and the remains were confirmed to be that of a deceased male that was not a Bowen resident, according to RCMP Cpl. Nancy Joyce.

His next-of-kin have been notified but his name is not being released.

Autopsy identifies Bowen Island body as missing UBC student
By Staff Reporter, The Province May 24, 2012

After an autopsy, the RCMP have determined that human remains found Friday on Bowen Island are those of missing University of B.C. student Mitchell Gallivan.

The 19-year-old Vancouver man was reported missing in October 2011 after disappearing shortly after completing his first year of engineering at UBC. The remains were found May 18 in brush on the island.

<snipped>

Sgt. Jennifer Pound, with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, said the man has been identified, his relatives have been notified, and his death does not appear suspicious, so the matter is no longer being handled by the IHIT squad.

Earlier speculation linked the body to missing 17-year-old Jodi Henrickson who was last seen after leaving a party on Bowen Island on June 20, 2009 after attending a house party.

Despite several searches, her body has never been found, but Pound said the latest discovery is unrelated to the Henrickson case.

Homicide investigators have said they believe the teenager met with foul play and never left Bowen Island.
