George Zimmerman went through almost $36,000 of contributions in 18 days spent mostly in jail, spending a bulk of his newfound cash on telecommunications, newly filed court records show.

Using funds donated from the public on the short-lived www.therealgeorgezimmerman.com, Zimmerman and his wife spent $6,500 on Internet and phone bills, according to a document his defense attorney filed with the judge. He and his wife bought new cell phones for $300 each and paid a year-long Verizon contract in full. They installed a telephone landline for $2,500 and spent $1,300 on a two-year AT&T wi-fi contract.

They paid off at least $7,000 in credit card bills.

They used $4,378 on automotive expenses, making payments on two car loans while renting another for more than $1,500. Gas: $800.

In a May letter to Circuit Judge Kenneth Lester, O’Mara called the spending “judicious.”

The money was donated to Zimmerman in the wake of the killing of Miami Gardens teenager Trayvon Martin. As the media spectacle heated up and marches around the country demanding Zimmerman’s arrest grew in size and number, Zimmerman turned to the Internet for donations.

George Zimmerman Hearing:
Trayvon's parents to speak soon
10/19/'12

SANFORD – George Zimmerman will return to court this afternoon for a hearing about his request for Trayvon Martin's school records, but the slain teen's parents are expected to speak out against that pursuit before the courtroom drama begins.

They plan to hold a news conference outside the Seminole County courthouse before the hearing to talk about that and to raise funds for a political committee they've just created that's designed to donate money to political candidates who support changes to Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law.

Circuit Judge Debra S. Nelson must decide whether to order Miami-Dade school officials to turn them over to Zimmerman's attorneys.

They want to find out about Trayvon's history of suspensions, his grades, attendance record and other things.

Assistant State Attorney Bernie de la Rionda says they're not relevant and has accused defense attorneys of going on a fishing expedition.

Trayvon's parents have denounced the effort, describing it as an attempt to further victimize their son.   ::snipping2::

Police say the 17-year-old Miami Gardens teenager was serving a 10-day suspension at the time of his death because school officials had found him with an empty marijuana baggie. O'Mara has already released to the public notes made by a physician's assistant, who treated Zimmerman the day after the shooting.

She wrote that he suffered a broken nose, cuts to his head and back pain.

De la Rionda is asking for more details, a request that O'Mara says violates his client's privacy.

The judge will also hear arguments from an attorney for more than a dozen news organizations – including The New York Times, CBS News, CNN and the Orlando Sentinel - who are fighting an attempt by prosecutors to seal defense subpoenas and the evidence they produce.

De la Rionda wants the judge to see all of those things first and decide, item by item, whether they should be made public. That could involve secret hearings.

Media attorney Scott Ponce says that does not comply with Florida's history of open courts nor with how previous appeals courts have ruled on requests to seal information.

The hearing is scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m.

George Zimmerman hearing: Trayvon Martin's parents decry school records request
Zimmerman's lawyers are asking for Trayvon's school records.
10/19/'12

SANFORD – Hours before George Zimmerman will return to court for a hearing on his request for Trayvon Martin's school records, the teen's parents accused Zimmerman of needlessly attacking their slain son's character.

"I feel that Trayvon's school records are not relevant in this case," Trayvon's father Tracy Martin said this morning, adding that Zimmerman's medical records, also a pending issue for today's hearing, "are very relevant in the case."

"It is wrong to subpoena his records on so many levels," said Martin family attorney Benjamin Crump, who called the defense request "the old classic method of attacking the victim."

Crump said Zimmerman's medical records are relevant "to make sure we know what drugs was in his system" on the night of the shooting.

Trayvon's parents called the news conference outside the Seminole County courthouse to talk about the hearing and a political committee they've just created that's designed to raise money to fight Florida's "stand your ground" law.On Thursday, they called for a "Trayvon Martin amendment" to that law, which would specify, Crump said, that those claiming self-defense "cannot be the aggressor."

Prosecutors say Zimmerman profiled and pursued Trayvon before their fatal encounter. They've charged him with second-degree murder. Zimmerman says he was attacked by the teen and fired in self-defense.

Circuit Judge Debra S. Nelson today will hear argument on whether to order Miami-Dade officials to turn Trayvon's school records over to Zimmerman's attorneys.

Zimmerman, a 29-year-old Neighborhood Watch volunteer, shot Trayvon Feb. 26 in Sanford after calling police and describing the teenager as suspicious.

In a move surprising only in its timing, prosecutors Thursday asked the judge to issue a gag order, barring attorneys from talking about the case. It was clearly aimed at defense attorney Mark O'Mara.  ::snipping2::

Judge says George Zimmerman can subpoena Trayvon Martin's school, social media records
10/19/'12

SANFORD – George Zimmerman's attorneys can subpoena Trayvon Martin's schools for his discipline records, a judge ruled this afternoon, but must keep anything they obtain private.

"I think that you're entitled to those records," Circuit Judge Debra Nelson said.

Citing case law, Nelson explained that, though Zimmerman didn't know anything about the 17-year-old before the Feb. 26 shooting, the records could potentially show a history of behavior by Trayvon relevant to Zimmerman's self-defense claim.

The judge also granted Zimmerman's request to subpoena Trayvon's social media records, as well as those of a girl who says she was on the phone with him before the shooting.

Defense attorney Mark O'Mara argued that the records could reveal Trayvon's state of mind in the leadup to the shooting. That, O'Mara said, is crucial to the case.

"The issue in this case is who did what during those couple of minutes that we don’t know what happened," O'Mara said. He acknowledged that it "sounds horrible" to attack the character of the alleged victim in the case, but is necessary for Zimmerman's defense.

Meanwhile, the judge granted prosecutors access to Zimmerman's medical records, though she will review them privately first in order to determine what should be turned over.

The medical and school records will not be released to the public, the judge said.

Zimmerman and his lawyers are in court this afternoon in Seminole County, where a hearing in his second-degree murder case is under way.  ::snipping2::

Motion: Officer reveals surprise about colleague seeking manslaughter for Zimmerman
Published On: Oct 19 2012 07:54:31 AM EDT Updated On: Oct 19 2012 04:17:25 PM EDT

SANFORD, Fla. -
The attorney for George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watchman who shot and killed Trayvon Martin, wants a judge to bar attorneys from talking with Sanford police officers about meetings held prior to the case being forwarded to the state attorney’s office.

In an emergency motion for protective order, defense attorney Mark O’Mara revealed after a Sanford police officer stated in his deposition yesterday that several officers felt there wasn't enough evidence to charge Zimmerman with manslaughter. He was eventually charged with second-degree murder after a special prosecutor was appointed by Gov. Rick Scott.

Local 6 has obtained the motion, which states that a deposition from a Sanford police officer who was surprised investigator Chris Serino sought a manslaughter charge. The deposition also states that other police officers and an assistant state attorney didn't believe that there was enough evidence to charge Zimmerman.

Hi there seahorse.  Shellie may very well be attending nursing classes somewhere, but my guess is that she is not.  So far the following is what I found regarding Shellie and her nursing school endeavors:

George Michael Zimmerman married Shellie Nicole Dean in November 2007 in Daytona Beach, according to public records. He was 24. She was 20 and a cosmetologist who specialized in facials.

She enrolled at Seminole State College — formerly Seminole Community College — in the fall of 2008 and left the school in the fall of 2010, their records show.

Did Shellie mention she about to finish her on-line nursing education, abt. June 2012?

Maybe she did not complete it. Who would Smile if $$$  was falling from the sky.

The petitioners for SZ License may be a bit premature or the site may not be updated,
or could she be under her maiden name?

This woman clearly lied , has been arrested , is awaiting trial and now has this on her record.

On ANYcircumstances may you have a conviction or charge on your record while you work in health care field. This woman is not loyal. Shes not trustworthy and I deeply fear that she may lie to one of her patients. This woman is damaged , broken , crazy and DANGEROUS. Shellie Nicole Dean should NOT practice any medical help on anyone. Help us get her license TERMINATED as well her cosmetology license. This woman should not have any DIRECT face to face involvement with people after she tried to lie in court.

George Zimmerman defense, national media prepare to fight gag order request

George Zimmerman's defense team today asked supporters to point out the most objectionable things they've said and written so they can prepare for a gag order hearing Friday in Sanford.

Meanwhile, a collection of local and national media organizations — including The Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, USA Today and other outlets — filed paperwork stating there is "no basis" for the state's gag order request.

The news outlets, in a filing dated Tuesday, argue that prosecutor Bernie de la Rionda is "asking the Court to violate the media's First Amendment right to gather news and information" by silencing Zimmerman's defense.

"Incredibly, the State seeks this drastic relief without citing or coming forward with any evidence relating to — much less satisfying — the demanding standard governing the issuance of 'gag orders,'" write the media outlets' attorneys.

Today, the Zimmerman defense's website posted a new notice: It urged Zimmerman supporters "to scour the web, and strange as it may sound, send us links to the most potentially questionable statements we have made during this process.

Zimmerman Defense Invites Public Scrutiny of Media Policy
on 23 October 2012.

Monday morning we sent this email to a person who has offered support to the defense, and since then it has been widely circulated on the web:

"All this week we'll be preparing to defend ourselves against the State's renewed motion for a Gag Order. We're confident that everything we've posted, and everything we've said publicly is proper and well within our rights, but we know that on Friday, the State is likely to find the most questionable thing Mark's said and present it to the Court. I'd like to ask if you and other supporters could help us scour the web and, strange as it may sound, send us links to the most potentially questionable statements we have made during this process. Again, we're confident ALL our statements are easily defendable, we just want to know what we're likely to have thrown back at us.”

Although we originally intended for the message to be private, we feel the message is sound, and since it has been made public, we extend the invitation to anyone who has an interest to participate: send us a link to any statement the defense has made publicly about the case that you think is inappropriate.

When we set our communications policy, we knew we would be under intense public scrutiny, and we are confident the whole of our efforts will stand up to that scrutiny well.
