Illinois bride found dead in bathtub wearing wedding dress
May 14, 2012

BURBANK, Ill. –  A newlywed still wearing her wedding dress was found dead in a bathtub at a home just outside Chicago, police said Monday.

Estrella Carrera, 26, suffered multiple stab wounds and was found in a dry tub Sunday afternoon at a home in Burbank, Ill., about 16 miles southwest of Chicago, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Carrera, who was married late Friday, was last seen alive around 2:00 a.m. local time Saturday, sources told the newspaper.

Her body was found after Carrera's sister became worried that she could not contact her and alerted the police.

A woman in a wedding dress was found apparently stabbed to death in a bathtub in a southwest suburban Burbank apartment, just days after her wedding, officials said.

Estrella Carrera, 26, was found around 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the 7800 block of South Rutherford Avenue, according to police.

Carrera's body was discovered after her sister became alarmed when she could not contact her and  asked police to conduct a well-being check at the home, officials said.

Burbank police were releasing few details but said the death was being investigated by the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force.

Carrera, a newlywed and mother of two children, ages 2 and 8, was supposed to pick the children up from a relative’s home Saturday afternoon, the release said. When she did not, the relative contacted police.

Police are calling it an isolated incident stemming from a domestic situation, but did not say whether anyone was in custody as of Monday afternoon.

Estrella had applied for a wedding license on May 2, authorities said. The 30-year-old man she filed to marry was not at his Southwest Side home Monday afternoon. A woman who identified herself as his sister said she had spoken with police about Estrella’s death but declined to comment further.

The Cook County Clerk does not yet have a marriage certificate on file, according to spokeswoman Gail Siegel. Whoever presided over Estrella’s wedding ceremony has to sign it then submit it to the clerk, Siegel said.

Newlywed, still in wedding dress, found stabbed to death in tub
By Becky Schlikerman, Carlos Sadovi and Steve Schmadeke Tribune reporters

The last time her family saw Estrella Carrera, she had just gotten married to the father of her youngest child.

They started getting worried the next day when the 26-year-old Carrera failed to pick up the child, a 2-year-old boy, and her 9-year-old daughter. On Sunday, a sister called police.

Officers arriving at Carrera's apartment in Burbank found her dead of stab wounds in a dry bath tub. She was still wearing her wedding dress. Authorities said they believe the slaying was domestic, but would not elaborate. No one is currently in custody, police said.

"We never thought this would happen, she was a strong woman. . .She loved her kids," Carrera's cousin Jaime Lopez said. "Reality still hasn't hit me."

Carrera had gotten married to the father of her son Friday but told few people, according to another cousin, Sandy Lopez.

Carrera called Sandy Lopez on Friday, sounding happy and inviting her to a party. But she said nothing about a wedding.  "She didn't want to tell me she had gotten married," said Sandy Lopez, who did not attend the party. "She didn't tell anybody."

Carrera and the man had had an on-and-off relationship for about three years, according to Sandy Lopez. The Tribune is not naming him because he has not been charged with a crime.
 ::snipping2::
aime Lopez said Carrera called other relatives to invite them to the party on Friday. She had planned a party on a bus and the group went to several bars.

"This just happened out of nowhere," Jaime Lopez said of the wedding. "It was so fast I couldn't even make it to the celebration."

Carrera had left her children with her father, but she failed to check in or pick them up. Relatives went to her home and knocked on the door but got no answer on Saturday, Jaime Lopez said. Two cars that belonged to her were not parked outside.

The cousins said Carrera was a strong, independent woman who worked as a Spanish language translator for a social welfare agency.

She and the 30-year-old man from the Southwest Side of Chicago applied for a marriage license on May 2, a source said.

Carrera did not yet have a marriage certificate on file, according to the Cook County clerk's office. The marriage is officially recorded after the person who presides over the wedding signs the marriage license and submits it to the office.

The death is being investigated by the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force, police said.

BTW, if the 2006 Maserati Jiminez  would retail for approx. starting price at $38k and up, depending on model & condition.   They are above $100k new.  So, not a cheap car.

South Suburban Burbank police issued the warrant for the murder of Estrella Carrera and are seeking the bridegroom, Arnoldo Jimenez, 30, of the 4200 block of Mozart Avenue in Chicago, Burbank police said in a news release.

The couple was married  Friday Chicago's City Hall.  After the wedding, a group of friends and family had dinner in the city, boarded a rented limousine and spent the evening at a night club on the North Side of Chicago.

Carrera and Jimenez were last seen by family about 4 a.m., Saturday.

On Sunday Carrera was found stabbed to death in a bathtub in her Burbank apartment after family members requested a well being check. Carrera had not picked up her two children and no one could reach her or Jimenez.

Carrera was found wearing a silver, sequined cocktail dress which was the same dress she wore during the celebration Friday.

“This investigation is still ongoing and will continue until Mr. Jimenez is in custody for this brutal murder,” police said in a news release.
 ::snipping2::
Jimenez was last seen driving a 2006 ,4-door Maserati. He is descried by police as 6-feet tall and 220 pounds.

Jimenez was charged in 2003 with domestic battery, but the complaining witness did not show up in court, according to court records. He also has a conviction for deceptive practice, court records show.

Jimenez is the father of Carrera’s youngest child, a 2-year-old son. She also has a 9-year-old daughter.

You read right Sister.  It  doesn't appear the husband/suspect is in custody as of this morning. I wonder if he's stashed the Maserati somewhere, since it would be noticed faster than say, a Honda Civic, Buick or a white van.  The article below says the complaining witness to 2003 battery charges didn't show up.  I wonder if the victim became too frightened to show up?  Plus, the conviction on deceptive trade practices brings to question Mr. Jiminez's character imo.

Police to groom of slain suburban Chicago bride: Turn yourself in
By Carla K. Johnson - The Associated Press
May 16, 2012

CHICAGO —

Police are urging a newlywed suburban Chicago man wanted in the stabbing death of his wife to turn himself in as 32 law enforcement agencies and the FBI hunt for him.

Thirty-year-old Arnoldo Jimenez is accused of first-degree murder in the slaying of 26-year-old Estrella Carrera. She was found in her bathtub shortly after they celebrated their wedding Friday with friends.
 ::snipping2::
Capt. Joseph Ford of the Burbank Police Department says Jimenez was previously arrested for domestic violence in another city that did not involve Carrera.

Ford says police don't think Jimenez is a danger to others.

He says Jimenez should "turn himself in for the sake of his family and especially his children."

Hunt for bride's killer expands to Texas
May 19, 2012

CHICAGO -

Police in suburban Chicago have asked authorities in Texas to join the hunt for a man accused of stabbing his new wife, Estrella Carrera, to death and leaving her body in her bathtub, still clad in the silver sequined cocktail dress she wore to celebrate their wedding.

Police and FBI officials were poring over more than 200 tips as they searched for Arnoldo Jimenez, who married Carrera on Friday at Chicago City Hall and allegedly killed her just hours later. Police said Jimenez may have ties to Texas.

"We are following every lead no matter where it takes us," said Capt. Joseph Ford of the Burbank Police Department, outside Chicago. "We will not stop looking, and this will not go away."

The sheriff in Hidalgo County, Texas, which is on the Mexican border, said a "be on the lookout" advisory indicates Jimenez may he headed for Mexico. There was no more specific information and authorities would not confirm whether Jimenez had left the country.

Federal border officials from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection also say they have the advisory and Jimenez' photo.

FBI Offers Reward in Slain Bride Case
Estrella Carrera was stabbed to death and found in her bathtub, officials said

By Mitchell Grogg
May 24, 2012

The Federal Bureau of Investigation hopes a $10,000 reward will help them catch the man they think killed his new wife.

Arnoldo Jimenez, 30, has not been seen since his wedding ceremony on May 11. The body of his new wife, Estrella Carrera, was found roughly 36 hours later in the bathtub of her Burbank apartment. Officials said she'd been stabbed while still wearing her wedding dress.
Family members told police Jimenez told his sister via telephone that Carrera had a bad fight and he left her bleeding, the affidavit said.

Days later, a warrant was issued for Jiminez's arrest.

Estrella Carrera Death: Arnoldo Jimenez, suspect in bride's murder, may be in Mexico, police say
May 25, 2012

(CBS/WBBM/AP) CHICAGO - Police in the Chicago area say Arnoldo Imenez, the man accused of stabbing his new bride to death almost two weeks ago, may be in central Mexico.
According to CBS Chicago, Burbank Police Capt. Joe Ford says police have received tips that Jimenez is in central Mexico.

"That's where his family is from," he said. "His parents are there and a bunch of relatives are there - in a town called La Campana in the state of Durango.

"We know he's traveled there on several occasions in the past."

Ford says the tips come from people in the Chicago area who still maintain ties to their native home in that same part of Mexico, CBS Chicago reports.

Bathtub Bride’s Suspected Killer on the Run, Maserati Found
October 5, 2012

The manhunt for a Chicago man suspected of killing his wife on their wedding night and leaving her in a blood-soaked bathtub may be headed to Mexico.

Burbank, Ill., police have been on the trail of Humberto “Betito” Jimenez since they found his newlywed bride, Estrella Carrera, dead in her bathtub, still wearing her wedding dress, on May 13.

The couple had married in a civil ceremony and then headed to dinner and a nightclub with friends, according to police.
Jimenez had then taken off in a black Maserati that police had not been able to find.

Last week,  a Drug Enforcement Agency-led sweep of suspected criminals in the Chicago area yielded the Maserati, which had blood stains and other evidence inside, according to Burbank police Capt. Joseph Ford.

The DEA was arresting two of Jimenez’s brothers in connection with drug offenses during the sweep, Ford said.

“We’ve been working with the feds due to the parallel of cases since our victim was murdered,” Ford said. “We became aware of this drug investigation when our case broke, and  we kept in communique with them, sharing information back and forth, and when they were ready to do this round-up we wanted to be part of it.”

The fact that the 2006 black Maserati was at the brothers’ house was “a bonus,” he said.

Ford said that the police are now “dotting their i’s and crossing their t’s” in building a case against Jimenez. The Burbank police believe it’s possible that he is in Mexico, but now that federal agents  are involved they are hoping to find him wherever he is.

Estrella Carrera Murder: Car belonging to bride-slaying suspect found at Chicago home, police say
October 5, 2012

CBS/AP) BURBANK, Ill. - Police located the 2006 black Maserati belonging to Arnoldo Jimenez last week, who is wanted for allegedly killing Estrella Carrera just hours after their spring wedding, CBS Chicago reports.

Burbank Police Capt. Joseph Ford released a statement Thursday saying that the car was discovered during the drug arrest of the suspect's brother, Humberto Jimenez, at his Chicago home.

Arnoldo Jimenez, 30, is being sought in the stabbing death of his newlywed wife on May 11. There is a $10,000 reward for information leading to his arrest and prosecution.
 ::snipping2::
Investigators believe that Carrera was stabbed in the car and moved the bathtub. They said Humberto Jimenez then drove Arnoldo in the car to Mexico.

During the drug arrest, the Maserati was found in Humberto's garage. Arnoldo is still sought in a first-degree murder warrant.

The Maserati was moved to the Burbank Police Department for analysis. Prosecutors told the judge that blood was inside the car.
