Manhunt on after deadly Seattle shootings

Gunfire erupted in Seattle on Wednesday in two separate shootings, killing four people,
critically wounding two others and setting off a manhunt that forced officials to close nearby schools.
The first shooting at a cafe left three dead. Police searching for the suspect had to respond to another attack
 in which a man fatally shot a woman in an apparent carjacking and fled in a black SUV.

Officers found a black Mercedes SUV believed to be involved in the incident; it was apparently abandoned
 in West Seattle. CBS affiliate KIRO's Chopper 7 could see a black handgun sitting on the driver's seat.

Authorities didn't immediately know whether the shootings were related.

The latest spasm of deadly gun violence to hit the city worried Seattle's leaders and prompted police to
 consider increasing patrols in high-crime areas. The three deaths bring the number of homicides to 19
this year, compared to 21 in all of last year.

Gunfire erupted late Wednesday morning at Cafe Racer, a restaurant and music venue north of the
 University of Washington. The gunman was described as a man in his 30s wearing dark clothes.

SEATTLE —

A woman was shot and killed in a carjacking in downtown Seattle on Wednesday morning, less than an
hour after four people were killed and one person was injured in a shooting near Cowen Park in North
Seattle, the Seattle Police Department said.

Police said in the downtown shooting, witnesses heard a man and a woman fighting in a parking lot just
west of Town Hall near 8th Avenue and Seneca Street. The woman called for help and the man pulled
out a handgun and shot her in the head.

The man took off eastbound on Seneca in a black Mercedes SUV, police said.

Officers found the SUV apparently abandoned in West Seattle. Chopper 7 could see a black handgun
sitting on the driver's seat.
