Missing Plano woman found at D/FW Airport
June 25, 2012

PLANO — A Plano woman who vanished from her home on Friday afternoon was found alive Sunday evening on the grounds of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.

Plano police confirmed the discovery of 47-year-old Janice Klein by airport police, who found her in a bathroom around 5 p.m., severely dehydrated. She was taken to an unnamed hospital for treatment.

After Klein arrived at the medical facility, she was tentatively identified from media reports as the missing woman.

"They notified Plano police about three or four hours later, after seeing the news," Plano police spokesman Officer Andrae Smith told reporters at a news conference early Monday morning. "Plano police sent some detectives down to this hospital and located this individual."
Investigators described Klein as disoriented and dehydrated, but with no signs of trauma and no evidence that she had been the victim of crime.

"At this moment, we do know that she is somewhat incoherent. we're hoping that by daylight she's gotten some rest, she's gotten some treatment from medical staff, we'll be able to sit down and talk with her," Smith said.

I am so happy for her and her family...what wonderful news.  I hope that she is okay now.

Great news that she was found safe. It seemed from the way the story was told that it was a bizarre case of her wondering off. The need to figure out whats up with her though.

"At this moment, we do know that she is somewhat incoherent. we're hoping that by daylight she's gotten some rest, she's gotten some treatment from medical staff, we'll be able to sit down and talk with her," Smith said.

Klein's family was notified about the discovery, and family friend Mark Balda said they are excited.

"All I hear is, she's exhausted... very leery... and doesn't know what's going on, but she's safe," Balda said. "She seems to be recouping fine, but she needs to get a good night's rest."

Klein was said to have disappeared on Friday without her wallet, car keys or a cell phone. It was not immediately clear how she traveled the 25 miles between her home and D/FW Airport, nor was it explained where she had been over the two-and-a-half day span.

"We are going to continue to look at all aspects of her disappearance and try to determine why, in fact, she did leave, and why she separated herself so far from the city," Smith said.

Balda said it was out of character for the "technology-oriented" Klein to leave the house without her phone or her keys.

Janice's husband just held a news conference, on local TV news.  She is home and resting, they still don't know why she wandered off but she was unharmed but very confused.

She thinks she recalls being on a train and there was a train ticket in her pocket when she was found at the airport.  He has no idea how she came to having the ticket and hopes she will be able answer what happened once she has gotten some rest.

Missing Plano Woman Found
Janice Klein found at DFW Airport.
Monday, Jun 25, 2012  |  Updated 12:17 PM CDT

The missing Plano mother of two children has been found and is now home resting, police and a family spokesperson said.

Police said Janice Klein was found in a bathroom at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport at 5 p.m. Sunday.

"When DFW DPS located her, they interviewed her and they discovered that she was severely dehydrated," said Andrae Smith, Plano Police's public information officer. "She was disoriented and they then transported her to a hospital."

Robert Klein, the missing woman's husband, told NBC 5 on Monday that Janice has been released from the hospital after receiving IV treatment for dehydration.

Robert Klein said that his wife had no identification with her, making it difficult for authorities at the airport to determine who she was.

It wasn't until someone with DFW Police saw a Sunday evening newscast listing Klein as missing that anyone was aware of who she might be, police said.

Robert Klein said that his wife was wearing the same outfit she was last seen in Friday and had a train ticket in her pocket.  Janice Klein told her husband she remebered being on a train, but Klein could not identify what kind of train or how she was able to purchase the ticket since she left home Friday without any money or credit cards.

PLANO — It was the story that fascinated us all, and worried a community over the weekend: Where was Janice Klein, a Plano mom who simply vanished from her home?

She is now back home, but the mystery remains.

Where was she?

The answer that could come down to one clue: A piece of paper in her pocket.

Janice Klein's disappearance is still a mystery. Her husband said their family is focusing on having her home — not why she left.

And Plano police say as far as they're concerned, the case is now closed.

Severe dehydration can cause symptoms such as extreme thirst, lack of sweating, rapid heartbeat and delirium, and it can be life threatening. But most people who experience dehydration experience mild to moderate dehydration.

Here are the effects of dehydration at a mild to moderate level:

Fatigue
Muscle weakness
Poor concentration
Headaches
Dizziness or lightheadedness
Decreased metabolism

Great news.  Now they need to get her to a doc that can thoroughly investigate what is going on with her health so that this doesn't happen again.  Next time she might not have this positive outcome.
