Linnea Lomax, 19, Missing After Leaving Mental Health Facility
July 2, 2012|9:41 am

 ::snipping2::
Lomax was being treated for a mental breakdown due to the stress of finals, her family explained. She had been in treatment for one week before being transitioned to outpatient therapy.

"I think people call it a nervous breakdown. I don't know if that's the technical term for it, but she just got so stressed she broke down," her father Craig told CBS. "She had lost a lot of weight and she was very stressed and wasn't being reasonable."

The family checked her into the facility and once Lomax began showing progress, she was released into outpatient care. She was an A-student at the University of California-Davis, where she was studying human development with the hope of attaining a degree in nursing.

Me too, Sister.  Her face and story are plastered all over everywhere, as it should be, but I fear that may also bring harm to her from a demented soul.

Two-page article.  Hopefully, she finds a way to make contact with people she trusts and gets the help that she needs.

Dad feels anguish, disbelief with daughter, 19, missing over a week

One afternoon this week, a haggard-looking Craig Lomax sat in an uncomfortably chilly corner of a Sacramento-area fire station and wondered aloud: How did it come to this?

It was 4 p.m., and his 19-year-old daughter, Linnea, had been missing for seven days, after she walked away from a mental health facility and went into hiding. And it was hell.

"I never knew my daughter could go from being a happy college student – a stressed but happy college student – in May to being in the streets in June," Lomax said.

Since the UC Davis freshman was reported missing June 26, her father – like many of the friends, relatives and volunteers looking for her – has felt a range of emotions.

"I'm fairly numb, because this is so ridiculous," said Lomax, 46, a Placerville resident who has been staying in Sacramento motels while the search for his daughter continues. "To take someone like Linnea and put her on the streets eating out of garbage cans … it's so unrealistic, it can't even be real."

Deputies: Details Suggest UC Davis Student is "Voluntarily" Missing
11:32 a.m. PDT, July 4, 2012

SACRAMENTO COUNTY—
Sacramento officials say circumstances suggest a UC Davis student missing for more than a week is voluntarily choosing to stay away from friends and family. El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office will now be the primary agency handling disappearance of Linnea Lomax.

Lomax was last seen at an outpatient facility on Howe Avenue in Sacramento on June 26. She had become overwhelmed while studying for finals, and her family put her into a treatment facility.

Lomax is originally from Placerville in El Dorado County.

Couldn't she voluntarily be missing because a mental illness has her convinced that she's not sick and doesn't need help?

I really hope she's found before someone takes advantage of her.

Family offers $5,000 reward for information about Lomax

The family of Linnea Lomax, the missing 19-year-old UC Davis student, is now offering a $5,000 reward for any information that leads to her safe return.
 ::snipping2::
Her parents say Lomax is a danger to herself - she struggled with anxiety during her freshman year of college and broke down several times while studying for final exams. Lomax was checked into a mental health facility but left and her parents say she is scared and without a wallet or phone.

Missing UC Davis student may have been sighted in Woodland
Created:   07/10/2012 12:30:55 AM PDT

A missing UC Davis student may have been spotted as many as six times in Woodland, nearly two weeks after her initial disappearance.

Placerville resident Linnea Noel Lomax, 19, walked away from a mental health facility off Howe Avenue in Sacramento on June 26, according to a statement from search spokeswoman Amanda Ernst.

Since then there have been numerous possible sightings, but none of them have been confirmed and no contact has been made.

The most promising lead came from a woman who believes she saw Lomax at the Yolo Wayfarer Center Christian Mission, Ernst said. One resident of the shelter also believes she has seen her multiple times at a nearby park.

Other sightings in Woodland include Target, and at Nugget market, as well as comforting a teddy bear in front of Tower Mart and in the company of two white men in a Toyota pickup.

Thank you for continuing to cover this story.  I can't believe she's been missing this long and no one has come forward with knowledge of her whereabouts.  Surely someone knows where she is...

Linnea Lomax: Sheriff Believes She's still Alive
3:27 p.m. PDT, July 26, 2012

EL DORADO COUNTY—
Thursday marks one month since the disappearance of Linnea Lomax, a 19-year-old student from UC Davis, and the sheriff of El Dorado County believes she's still alive.

“Somebody out there knows where Linnea is. We just wanna make sure she’s O.K.,” El Dorado County Sheriff John Dagostini said Thursday.

Lomax was last seen in June, when she disappeared from a counseling center in Sacramento. She was receiving treatment following a stress-related breakdown.

UC to offer online mental health screening tool for students
August 4, 2012

Counselors at the University of California are updating the way they approach student mental health.

An online survey developed by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention will soon be available at all 10 UC campuses. The goal is to connect at-risk students with campus mental health counselors before it's too late.

The screening tool is anonymous. Students receive an email with a link to a 10-page questionnaire. The system then generates an assessment based on the responses, while also allowing the student to connect online with a campus counselor, if the student wishes.

"The more support systems you have in place, the better it will be," said Marianne Lomax, the mother of University of California, Davis, student Linnea Lomax.

Linnea Lomax was reported missing June 26 after her family said she suffered a mental breakdown while studying for finals. The 19-year-old Placerville woman was treated for 10 days at an outpatient facility before disappearing, her family said.

Although no one can know for sure whether Linnea Lomax would have used the screening tool, there is agreement among experts that having more resources to connect counselors with students is always beneficial.

Linnea Lomax search effort continues
UC Davis student missing since June

August 6, 2012

Forty days, four hours, 32 minutes ago. According to the website helpfindlinnea.org, this is the length of time since Linnea Lomax walked out of an outpatient clinic in Sacramento without her wallet, cellphone or medication.
Lomax, a UC Davis first-year from Placerville, has been missing since June 26. A human development major with a GPA exceeding 3.8, she is described as a cheerful, caring girl with “curly blond hair crown[ing] her slender 5’2” frame” and twinkling blue eyes.
Her disappearance follows in the wake of a series of episodes related to her mental state in dealing with the rigors that come with life after high school. This culminated with a nervous breakdown during Spring Quarter finals.
Subsequently, Lomax was encouraged to seek treatment for the illnesses that had begun to plague her. Between June 14 and 25, she was placed in inpatient psychiatric care.
On June 26, Lomax was scheduled to attend a full day of outpatient therapy. However, at around lunch time, she walked out of the clinic and has not been seen since. She was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the word “Sweden” stenciled across in red, a pair of faded green skinny jeans and black flip flops.
An extensive search effort has since been conducted with support pouring in from all over the country. Nearly 6,000 users have shown their support via Facebook with hundreds volunteering their time or money. The effort continues with a benefit concert held on Aug. 5 at Cold Springs Community Church in Placerville. In addition, search parties are still combing the Sacramento area.
Linnea’s father, Craig Lomax, believes Linnea will be found, although he acknowledges that there will be a long road ahead for the family in nursing Linnea back to her prior state.
“All the possibilities seem to be increasingly unrealistic,” Lomax said.

KlassKIDS Joins the Search!! Volunteers Needed!
13/08/12

Wonderful Volunteers! We would like to thank you for your overwhelming support over the last 45 days. Your willingness to serve in the search for Linnea has been a constant source of encouragement.

Over the last several weeks, we have slowly crossed off many of our original leads. However, we are still following a few storylines suggested by the early sightings. We have talked extensively with the KlaasKIDS Foundation, seeking their advice and input. Marc Klaas and Brad Dennis, the search director from KlaasKIDS, think the most helpful thing at this point would be to conduct a sophisticated and thorough ground search along the American River near where Linnea disappeared. This will hopefully put to rest some lingering questions about this area, clarify the events of the first few days after Linnea’s disappearance, and possibly turn up new clues and leads.

We are asking for boots on the ground once again, helping in this search. The search will be conducted on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday August 17th, 18th, and 19th. Members of KlaasKIDS will be here helping as we start this new search effort. They ask that all volunteers wear long pants, sturdy shoes, and bring appropriate gear for the weather (hats, sunglasses, water etc.) Volunteers can sign up online at Volunteer Spot or call the Volunteer line at 916.798.0173. Volunteers for the search must be 18 or older, and have a photo ID. We would like to fill two shifts each day, from 7:00 am to 12:00 pm and from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Lunch will be served from 12:30-1:30 each day. A Press Release from KlaasKIDS can be read below.

Linnea Lomax: Weekend Search Scheduled
9:20 p.m. PDT, August 17, 2012

SACRAMENTO—
It’s a search where the hope is not to find anything belonging to Linnea Lomax.

About 50 volunteers searched an area of the American River near Howe Avenue Friday.  The location is significant because it’s the last place the 19-year-old was seen nearly two months ago.

“It’s a very extensive search,” explained Brad Dennis, the search coordinator with the KlaasKids Foundation.  “It’s a very slow, methodical look at that particular area.  We just want to make sure there is nothing there to help us find her.”

Dennis doesn’t believe Linnea will be found along the American River, but his search party is here to rule it out.

Volunteers Find Clue in Linnea Lomax Case
5:02 p.m. PDT, August 19, 2012

SACRAMENTO COUNTY—
"The worst case scenario is that she's dead," says Craig Lomax, Linnea's father.

The family came across a lead Sunday, hoping it will lead them to their 19-year-old daughter.

"We're excited that we found the first absolute confirmation of where Linnea was," her father tells FOX40.

Volunteers found the clue along the American River Bike Trail this afternoon. "It was a notepad, the book she was using in the therapy session she was in. It gives us some direction, maybe even some insight to what she was thinking," Craig says.

The extended search for Linnea has been made possible by Mark Klaas. His daughter Polly was murdered back in 1993. The Klaaskids Foundation arrived this weekend to help the Lomax family with their search.

Since the UC Davis student disappeared on June 26 from mental health facility in Sacramento, her family says her bank account has gone untouched, along with her cell phone and social media profiles.
