PORTLAND, Ore. - A registered sex offender barricaded himself inside a Wendy's restaurant on Sunday after police say he grabbed a 10-year-old boy, pulled him into a restroom, tried to sexually assault the child and then stabbed the boy when he began fighting back.
The incident began around 2 p.m. at the Wendy's at Northeast 29th and Sandy Boulevard.
According to police, the suspect, 49-year-old Adam Lee Brown of Southwest Portland, was standing outside a restroom when the boy walked up to go to the bathroom.
Brown forced the boy inside, locked the door and attempted a sexual assault. The boy fought back and Brown pulled out a knife, stabbing him several times, police said.
The boy's father tried to open the door but had to get the manager to unlock it.
At that point, Brown opened the door, shoved the boy outside and then locked himself inside the restroom. Some people who were in the restaurant held the door shut until police arrived.
When officers got there and tried to talk to Brown, he claimed he had a gun and that's when crisis negotiators and SERT officers were called to the scene, Sgt. Pete Simpson with Portland Police said.
Police then cleared people out of the immediate area and shut down nearby roads. After a couple of hours of talking to crisis negotiators, Brown came out and surrendered to police without incident.
Police found a knife that they believe was used in the assault but they never found a gun.
The young victim was taken to a local hospital where he underwent surgery. He is now recovering from his injuries. He has not been identified.  ::snipping2::

Suspect in restaurant attack had history of sexual assault
July 2 '12 Update

PORTLAND, Ore. – A listing on Oregon’s sex offender registry paints a scary picture of the man police said tried to sexually assault a boy in a restaurant bathroom before stabbing him on Sunday.
Adam Lee Brown was declared a “predatory” sex offender after he was convicted for sodomy in December of 1993.

According to news reports from KATU and others at the time, Brown had unprotected sex with children and tried to infect them with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.
Prosecutors said he victimized nine kids, five of whom were exposed to HIV.
He targeted both male and female children between two and eight years old.
Brown sexually assaulted children who were in the care of acquaintances, and gave them drugs and alcohol, according to the sex offender registry.
He was not allowed to have contact with minors after his release or frequent places where minors regularly congregate.
He was paroled in 2004. His original sentence was 16 years, which means he would have gotten out of jail in 2009 whether his parole was denied or allowed.
According to spokesman Hank Stern with the Multnomah County Department of Community Justice, Brown was treated as a "high risk" sex offender.
In July 2011, he was sent to jail for 29 days for not reporting to his parole officer, failing a polygraph and having pornography.
Then in January 2012 he was again sent to jail for failing to report, ID theft and meth possession. He was released 90 days later.
In June of this year a warrant was again issued for Brown's arrest because he failed to report to his parole officer and abandoned his housing, Stern said.
Brown appeared in court on Monday afternoon and pleaded not guilty to charges related to Sunday's attack.  ::snipping2::

KittyMom, I agree.  He was deemed a predatory sex offender.  For the love of all that is sacred, doesn't the judicial system understand what that means?????

I wonder why he wasn't charged with attempted murder back in 1993?  His own wife states that he told her he was trying to infect those kids with HIV.

Should we allow a predatory child rapist, especially a serial rapist to EVER roam our streets?  Children are unable to protect themselves.  Why would we allow men and/or women who we KNOW will continue to harm children free access to them by not keeping them caged?  Do we allow gorillas to roam our streets?  One sighting of a cougar in a public place and it's shot on sight.  Not because they are or aren't animals but because they pose imminent danger to people.

I'm okay paying a little more in taxes to permanantly lock this evil away forever until they die.  They do absolutely no good in society, they are a drain anyway because of the damage they cause so why not just put them away?
