Cops arrest 3 brothers after 3 Ohio women missing for a decade found alive

Authorities say three brothers have been arrested after three women who vanished about a decade ago in separate cases were found alive Monday in a residential area just south of downtown Cleveland, just a few miles from where they disappeared.

Police said a 52-year-old man was among those arrested, but released no names and gave no details about the others arrested or what charges they might face. They described one of the suspects as a Hispanic male but said they planned to provide more information at a news conference Tuesday.

CLEVELAND - Relatives of Gina DeJesus said the teen who went missing nearly a decade ago is healthy and doing well.

DeJesus was found in a Cleveland home Monday night after she disappeared walking home from Wilbur Wright Middle School in 2004.

“Gina is doing well, she's in good spirits,” said Sandra Ruiz off camera. “She remembers everyone.”
 
“She asked for her brother and sister and her nieces that they all lived with,” said Sheila Figaro, DeJesus' second cousin.

Figaro said she and her family never gave up hope that DeJesus would be found alive.

“I just broke into joyful tears,” she added when she heard the news tonight.

DeJesus grew up less than two miles from where she was found on the city's west side.

Three girls who went missing as teenagers managed to escape from their captor after spending a decade chained up in the dungeon of an Ohio house.

Amanda Berry, 26, and Gina DeJesus, 23, and Michelle Knight, 32, were found alive in the Cleveland house just a few miles from where they disappeared.

The trio escaped after a neighbour helped break down the door after hearing Berry scream for help when their captor left the house.

Ariel Castro, 52, has been arrested and is in police custody in connection with the kidnapping case along with his two unnamed brothers, who are 50 and 54

Berry:  His name is Ariel Castro.

Operator: All right. How old is he?

Berry:  He's like 52.

Operator: All right, and a...

Berry:  And I'm Amanda Berry. I've been on the news for the last 10 years.

Operator: OK, I got that, dear... what is his name again?

Berry:  Uh, Ariel Castro.

Operator: And is he white, black or Hispanic?

Berry:  Uh, he's Hispanic.

Operator: What's he wearing?

Berry:  I don't know cause he's not here right now. That's how we got away.

Operator: When he left, what was he wearing?

Berry:  (Indistinguishable)

Operator: The police are on the way. Talk to them when they get there.

Berry:  OK.

I'm so happy that these girls are safe now.  I am so disgusted at the same time.  It makes me sick to my stomach and to learn that he was a bus driver and there was an incident where a child was left on the bus...wonder what happened there?  I am so proud of Amanda for breaking free and for the neighbor that helped her to get out...I really hope that he gets a reward of some sort (not that it is about that, I am sure that he is thoroughly rewarded by seeing them free). 

I would really like to know what happened and why yesterday she was able to get away and no other time prior to yesterday.  I pray for peace and healing for these young ladies, I cannot even imagine the horrors that they went through.

Listening to the dispatcher, it seems she didn't believe her.  Actually, seemed kind of rude to me.  Anyone else feel that way?  "I told you, talk to the police when they get there."  I would have kept her on the phone, poor girl.
