Great picture.. notice the island... is there one in the larger picture of him with the truck.. this one is too much of a close up. Looks like a small island on the left of the close up.

There is a lake in Malibu State Park that has mountains behind it.. but I would like to see the shape of the the mountains in the whole picture. He was known to according to the police in one of the news article to go to that area for the article said they searched around his home (wonder where and how????) and wilderness trails in Malibu State Park as they said he frequented there... Gads he was all over the place.

I also thought  of  Lake Piu (sp) and Pyramid lake.

Am a tad fogged tonight.. is Pyramid Lake part of the lake you just showed.... one of the lakes up there that has a

The jpg I have is so small... I can't even zoom in.. but it is a screen shot from TV that says "Crimefighters" if I remember correctly that might be an Orange County or San Diego TV station.

Thought I'd saved it at the jpg that I saw.. but mine is only about 2 inch square on my computer screen..

Hoping for Klaas to the rescue
in the iddy biddy picture I have, I can see a road with a guard railing, water in the bkgd and mountains.

The uplifting in the "ridges" of the mountains look like an earthquake type of mountain.. Doesn't look as if any pine trees.

Missing O.C. woman's family struggles with her fate

Donna Jou's mother, father and siblings are bewildered by the circumstances of her disappearance and the treatment of a suspect.
By Christopher Goffard, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
August 26, 2007
In the two months since the disappearance of 19-year-old Donna Jou, a bookish, sheltered biology student who dreamed of being a neurosurgeon, clues to her fate have been both dramatic and maddeningly inconclusive.

There is an abandoned toolbox with ominous contents. There are puzzling text messages she may or may not have sent her mother.

And there is a feeling of certainty, among her family and investigators, that a convicted sex offender named John Steven Burgess -- described by one detective as "a very smooth-talking con man" -- knows more than he will reveal.

"It's torture," said her mother, Nili Jou. "My daughter only lived 19 years, and he's not telling me where she is."

It was Burgess, 35, investigators said, who somehow lured Jou from her mother's Rancho Santa Margarita apartment onto the back of his motorcycle June 23. It was Burgess' dilapidated rental house in Palms where witnesses last saw her alive. It was Burgess, investigators say, who repainted his 1998 Ford Ranger and fled after Jou vanished, and it was his tool box -- containing a motorcycle helmet, his truck's license plate, rope, rubber gloves and a scrub brush -- that turned up near his house.

So when police caught up to him late last month as he was trying to ditch a bag of crack cocaine in the parking lot of a Motel 6 in Jacksonville, Fla., everyone hoped the case would break wide open.

Instead, Burgess now sits in a Los Angeles jail on an unrelated charge of failing to register as a sex offender. He refuses to talk about Donna Jou, and though police call him a suspect, they have not charged him in her disappearance. Between him and the street stands $250,000 bail.

"It's an unusual case, where our client is being held on Case A, where clearly the focus is on Case B," said Burgess' attorney, George Bird Jr. He said Burgess could not answer questions about his whereabouts around the time of Jou's disappearance without the risk of incriminating himself in the failing-to-register case.

Kermit, thanks for pointing out that lake so close to Malibu State Park.  I'm going to drive over there right now and take a look-see, see if the surrounding mountains look similar to that photo of Burgess next to his truck.

Is he wearing a watch in that photo?  Does anyone have the technology to see if he is wearing a watch, and if so, if the DATE is on the watch?  (wishful thinking, but who knows, someone may have that technology)

Donna is somewhere, we just have to find her.  She did not vanish into thin air.

Could you zoom in more for me?? Across the dam and to the right I think is a restaurant or store.

Motorcycle people like to go up to Topanga Cyn. There used to be a food place they''d hang out and take the top of the mountain road, sometimes on top, which is one of the roads you mentioned and go to Malibu state park and Malibu road then down one side to the beach and come back or the other big traffic way.. the 101 Fwy.. The suspect, according to LAPD in a news article searched there on wilderness trails and around his home. This park is not small.

Too bad a rattlesnake didn't bite him.

Kermit, you seem to used earth google and I can't (56k modem)

Would you or Klaas or another good Monkey
zero down into Malibu State Park NNW-W of  where Malibu lake is....I might be wrong on my directions (it's been years since I have thought of this area, except when they have a fire or mud slides).. more at the end of the street you have.... there is a lake in there.. with mountains in back... but more at ground level

But they were adding new roads 30 yrs. ago.. Went into that area almost 4 times a week for 4 yrs. and then various times at Lake Sherwood and Malibu.

These lakes, except in the park, I would think have great security at night because of the tourist, day drivers and bikers... now have homes that are expensive. 40 yrs ago could be bought for $50,000. but you had a hour plus traffic to get to work.

I think Lake Malibu is closer in then Malibu State Park (the old Fox Ranch and used to belong, I think, to the Reagans) MASH, and the series with the fast good ole boys in cars, plus the series Swiss Family Robinson with famous actors et and the children were Helen Hunt, Willie Aames (later on another more famous series) and Eric Olsen. Great young people! How the West Was Won with Vicki Shreck and the young adults who met there and married... Bruce and ? was filmed at a ranch there, the Kanab, Utah, Tuscon and Colo. They never took the young adult, Vicki, to Colo.

Because of our summer school in a AC trailer on the lot, we went on "field trips" The company would pay for gas, admissions and of course.. I got them to pay for lunch

That's how I met Jim Amormino, spokesman for Orange County Police.. he used to do the same thing for LAPD; then I think retired from that and went to OC. He showed us all around the PD in LA, jails, the labs, et al, the Acad and the Court system. Very intelligent, honest, down-to-earth man, has a good Soul and virtues. I would think, they type of man who doesn't like to be put in the "middle" by others or other brances of LE. or an ole boy's network  Always on TV here when news of crime happens in OC. I worry about him; along with all LE.

(Aren't a mom, I personally adopt groups to worry about... police, fire, troops, young people, Scared Monkey Family)

"My" Student, 16 or 17, was/is a knock out. and made quite an impression. Too bad she wasn't older. ...wow how life could have worked out.

I know I have seen a more zoomed out picture somewhere of him, the truck and lake... I thought I had seen an island to the left, but might have been that grassy area. Area looks dry... No rain CA

News articles say this man was all over in LA, Orange and San Diego Counties, even SF, AZ... so if he always had money.. probably Vegas or other casinos around LA

Was he a drug dealer??? or do you get paid for being a sex offender???

I understand he tried to sell one very young girl into trafficking or prostitution. assault and battery, are some of the areas that lead to the sex offender charge.

This is the western most portion of Malibu Lake.  I didn't see any other bodies of water near but I'll keep looking:
