I don't think it's Donna, we would have heard by now.

Cause of death inconclusive on body of woman found in Lancaster
Daily News Wire Services
Article Last Updated: 10/09/2007 07:17:52 AM PDT

LANCASTER - An autopsy conducted on the dismembered body of a woman found on a vacant lot outside Lancaster was "inconclusive" on the cause of death, authorities said today.

The decomposing remains were found by a man collecting cans near 20th Street West and Avenue G, northwest of the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds, just before 11 a.m. Saturday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department reported.

"Detectives have learned that an autopsy report by the Los Angeles County Office of the Coroner was inconclusive as to the cause of death," said Deputy Tony Moore of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.

The remains were "mummified," said coroner's Lt. John Kades. More tests will have to be conducted by the coroner's office to determine the cause of death, Moore said.

The name of the woman was withheld, pending notification of next of kin, Moore said.

So, I think it is not Donna.  If they already know this womans identity, I think Klaas is right, we would have known by now.

His "sexual registry" photo could be catalogued under P for "pervert" or under C for "child molester."  He looks like he has a thing for little boys in that photo (IMO).   Shocked

Sex offender suspect in missing student case gets prison
The Associated Press
Article Launched: 10/10/2007 01:56:51 PM PDT
http://www.mercurynews.com/breakingnews/ci_7138788
LOS ANGELES—A man under investigation in the disappearance of a San Diego State University student was sentenced to three years in prison Wednesday for failing to register as a sex offender.

John Steven Burgess, 35, was sentenced in Superior Court after pleading no contest to failing to register and to another charge of failing to file a change of address. A second count of failing to file was dropped.

Burgess was ordered taken into custody immediately and, with good behavior in prison reducing his sentence he should be out in about 17 months, his attorney, George Bird Jr., said.

After that, he will have a period of supervision at a specific location but eventually may be able to live where he wants as long as he registers, Bird said.

Burgess has been identified as a suspect—but not charged with a crime—in the disappearance of 19-year-old Donna Jou of Rancho Santa Margarita. She was last seen June 23 on the back of Burgess' motorcycle, believed headed to a party at his rented house in West Los Angeles. Authorities said the two met on the Internet site Craigslist.
My hope is that he'll never be charged" in the case, Bird said. "I'm not aware of any facts that would support the filing of such charges."

Burgess has not talked to investigators about the disappearance and there is "no expectation" that he will because it could only harm his position, Bird said.

"He's still considered either a prime suspect, or a suspect or a person of interest," Bird said. "In that case it would never serve him to even talk about what even the weather was like (the day Jou vanished)."

Jou's friends and family gathered outside the courthouse and chanted "please Burgess talk" and "justice for Donna."

"All our waking moments are focused only on finding our daughter and discovering what has happened to her," her father, Reza Jou, said.

The family planned to hold a 20th birthday party for their daughter on Sunday, said her mother, Nili Jou.

"This family is in our hearts and our prayers," Burgess' attorney said. "No one can imagine what it can be like for any family to deal with a disappearance of a family member."

Burgess was convicted of three counts of battery in 2002 and of performing a lewd act against a child the following year. He was sentenced to 146 days in jail, placed on three years' probation and required to register as a sex offender.

Burgess was arrested on Sept. 20 for investigation of stealing DVDs from a video store in Jacksonville, Fla. He was carrying a fake identification, authorities said.

Burgess Jailed For Not Registering As Sex Offender

Defense attorney George Bird Jr. said recently that his client was willing to talk with investigators about Jou if he were offered immunity from prosecution on the registration charge.

On Wednesday, prosecutors said they never considered that offer because it was possible that after they granted him immunity he could have said he had no information.
His lawyers have said they could not advise him to talk about the woman's disappearance, Deputy District Attorney Christi Frey said.

"He has a right to remain silent on anything that might incriminate him," she said, later adding, "we'd all love to hear what he has to say."

As for immunity, she said, "we never discussed it." Outside the courthouse, Jou's friends and family members held up signs and chanted "please Burgess talk" and "justice for Donna."

It was posted on the Missing and Exploited blog, that's why you couldn't find it here.  Here is the comment:

He got angry about this and wanted to have a physical altercation. Later, I found out he never payed any of the dozen or so circulators a dime for their work. I am not surprised that he is a drug addict, thief, and possibly a killer. He is a real scum bag who deserves to be in jail the rest of his life.

I don't think he will ever talk about Donna.  It makes me sick.  He will serve his measly time and Donna will still be missing.  I am hoping that TES will be able to search for and find her.  But he could've put her anywhere from California to Florida so with out some kind of info to go on, this will not be an easy task.

There is another story on the Court TV board by Ojay:  Basically, Ojay lived with Burgess for a while.  Ojay moved out eventually.  Burgess claimed to have sent the deposit back to him in the mail (cash).  Of course, Ojay never received it.  Burgess claimed other things (that Ojay messed up the place or something - lies) so Burgess had to keep part of the deposit.  In the end, after Ojay told Burgess that he never received the money back, the end of the story is a big zero:  Burgess got away with another bad deed.

Burgess's bad deeds are piled up all over the place:  the fantasy football scam that was online; stories I heard from another one of his roommates (about selling fake-exotic cats online to cat collectors); of course, ripping off his housemates from Faris Drive AND ripping off the landlady (taking their money and leaving town on July 5); plus other stories.

My thought is this:  This guy tries to make money off of anything and everything.  It is obvious he set up Donna in advance, he tricked her.  His mind is constantly moving about how can he scam someone else & make money.  Right now he is sitting in jail thinking of how he can get out of serving this time in jail - what con or scam can he pull to get out of this mess.  How will his demeanor change as he lives out his sentence?  He has only spent some 146 days in jail before.  Now it will be over 365 days, and hopefully more.  What type of inmates will he be housed with?  What sorts of things will they do to him, especially when they find out he is a registered sex offender?  We all know Burgess is a big wimp - preying on the smaller, weaker, international and naive.  How will his mindset change and what deals will he be willing to make after spending *quality time* with his new neighbors and roommates?

My personal thought is he sold Donna to someone.  I do think there are other people out there who know what happened to Donna, or maybe they are holding her behind closed doors.  I think he sold her to someone, and those people are tougher and meaner than Burgess, so if he talks, HIS life would be in danger (that is why he doesn't talk).

On another note:  Yesterday a female body was found in Sun Valley.  The body was found in an alley.  I don't know the outcome (the identity), but I was thinking: if it is Donna and her captors dumped her on the same day Burgess went to court, what message would that send to Burgess about talking, i.e. giving LE their names?  Does anyone know if the body has been identified?

I just googled it on _LA Times_, and this is what I found.  I'm not sure if this is the same news story, not sure where Sun Valley is in comparison with North Hollywood:

"North Hollywood: Alisha Johnson, 21, a white young woman, was strangled and found dead in an alley in the 8100 block of Vanscoy Avenue in North Hollywood. Her boyfriend..." (etc.)

So, if this is the same woman from the news story last night who was found in an alley, it isn't Donna.

No, not Donna but a sad tale indeed

LAPD: Man Choked His Pregnant Girlfriend, 21
(CBS) LOS ANGELES A 21-year-old pregnant Westminster woman was choked to death by her boyfriend in North Hollywood, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The body of Alisha Johnson was discovered shortly after midnight in an alley in the 8100 block of Vanscoy Avenue, near Roscoe Boulevard, Capt. Ed Winter of the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner said.

During the investigation that followed, detectives learned that Johnson had recently told her family and friends that she was four-and-a-half months pregnant with her 33-year-old boyfriend's baby, according to the LAPD.

Investigators questioned Michael Labrunda, who was taken into police custody and booked on two counts of murder.

The couple had known each other for two years, according to police.

Neighbors initially thought the woman was homeless and had no idea she was dead.

Gloria Allas said she thought the woman was sleeping, but when she returned, she realized something was wrong.

Another neighbor, Robert Lacara, said the area was "pretty free of gangs but now drugs are a problem."

Anyone with information was asked to call North Hollywood Homicide Detective Thomas Townsend or Timothy Kirkpatrick at (818) 623-4045 during normal business hours, or 1-877-LAW-FULL (529-3855) after hours and on weekends.
