Bama... the e-mails sent to that addy are compiled and put in a notebook at the church for us to look through.  They don't actually go on the wall, but accomplish the same thing... right now we have about 900, I think. Not bad!

Kerin... Well, only a couple of my MB friends are going to UAB with me, but I know a lot of people there already.  However, I'm going to transfer to AU the following year and almost all my friends are going there.

I'm sorry, but I think this guy Dan doesnt know any more than anyone else.  This latest thing where he promises a big revelation and give us nothing more than an error-filled rehash of things we already know is a big red flag to me.

Now, that's a little harsh.  In bet he's gonna do a pretty good overview which has not been printed anywhere as I know, yet.

If Dan can post 1 story with the facts straight, that would really help. There is a lot of misinformation around, and it would be good to be able to refer to one source.  A sort of Natalee faq. I don't know if that's what he has in mind.

However, based on this first bit, I think its going to need a bit of editing.

"In trying to tell that story, and the broader unfolding story of Natalee Holloway in general,"

I am tired now and my eyes blurry, but did he really say or did we believe it would be a revelation?

You have to give Dan the benefit of the doubt.  It's the middle of the night, he's writing under immense pressure, and his editor is asleep.

I hate to say it, but I really don't think Dan knows what he's talking about.  I have no idea why he would say that about non-brookies going on the trip, because everyone who went was a graduating senior from our school.... Weird.

That's good ---. The worst part of college a lot of times is not having anyone there you know. The UAB campus is pretty close to you right?

night DT, too

At least we know that the cell worked from Aruba!

Lots of stuff one might want to know if let's say the NY Times OR the WaPo or ....the MSM doesn't report anymore...

Go, Riehl...win your Pulitzer and tell us the story!

Since when do bloggers need editors? Very Happy

His two factual errors in the first two sentences don't bode well for the rest...

I wish there was a way to set an alarm on the monkey to wake for breaking news.  I am going to sleep next to my computer

I wonder if ALL these details have been reported elsewhere. The part about the activities of the chaperone who stayed behind, and his contacts, may be new.

The DEA presence there is also a red flag that I think a lot of people have been glossing over too much. There is something BIG happening down there and I fear that it has relevance to this poor girl's disappearance.

It COULD be that the cellphone allowed calls back to the US but not from person to person WITHIN the island... which would be the use the teens there would most want it for, to touch base with each other. Maybe they could be used to call Mom and Dad etc...?

Yeah, it's super-close. I actually interned for the Psych dept. last year... I drove there after school.  It's practically like another year of high school! haha.  That's why I plan to transfer to AU... UAB is my transition time

I do think Dan should consider posting straight news updates...especially given the pent up need for news in this case.  A longer several part series would be great...but, as the story is breaking and moving so quickly IMO it would be best to be concise and pithy!

When you've got tons of people refreshing their screens for a couple hours waiting for a big news item, it makes the natives restless.

This takes me back to journalism school...This is why news stories conventionally begin with the most important facts in any report.

They started doing this in the Civil War, because if they dallied around with their writing, the telegraph lines might go out before they had a chance to get to the point.
