Cleveland: Bond set at $2 million for mother in son's death (VIDEO of court appearance)
10:54 AM, Nov 29, 2012

CLEVELAND --  The mother charged in the death of her 3-year-old son faced a judge in court this morning.

Judge Pinkey Carr set bond at $2 million for Camilia Terry.

The 20-year-old is charged with aggravated murder in the death of her child, Emilliano.

During the brief arraigment which lasted only a few minutes, prosecutors gave more details on the injuries suffered by Emilliano.

Prosecutors described the child as having blunt force trauma to the  head and a skull fracture.  It is estimated the child had been dead five to seven days when his body was recovered at a trash facility on Monday night.

The medical examiner hasn't officially determined the cause of death.

Terry said little during the court appearance, except to answer a question from the judge, and looked down for much of the arraignment.

Judge Carr also ordered Terry to have no contact with her other children.

Ohio mom charged with murder in toddler's death
November 29, 2012 4:00AM

 ::snipping2::

Investigators are reviewing the 20-year-old woman's online song and comment postings, which could provide clues to a possible motive, Tomba said. The online postings reflect a life of sexual and physical abuse, loneliness and a dream that someone she knew was going to die.

 ::snipping2::

Detectives have been questioning Terry's family and neighbors to determine when the boy was last seen and help set a time of death. Tomba said detectives think the boy was last seen by someone outside his apartment on Thanksgiving Eve.

Terry's two other sons, one 5 years old and the other 5 months old, are in county custody.

The dead boy is the third generation of his family involved in county social services, Cuyahoga County Department of Children and Family Services spokeswoman Mary Louise Madigan said.

The family history with the agency extends back to 2000 and a neglect complaint against Terry's mother, the dead boy's grandmother. Throughout the years, there were more neglect complaints, some unsubstantiated, and later similar neglect complaints against Terry over the handling of her children, Madigan said.

Records: Camilia Terry’s Childhood Full of Abuse
November 29, 2012

CLEVELAND — Close to 800 pages of records at Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court paint a chilling portrait of the life Camilia Terry led growing up in Cleveland.

Terry, 20, stands accused of killing her 3-year-old son Emilliano.

The records show violence and neglect have been a part of Camilia Terry’s life since childhood.

The documents indicate that Camilia’s mother would choke her children and sometimes deny them food.

They label the mother’s alcohol problem as “severe” and say her boyfriend once forced a young Camilia to perform a sex act on him.

When Camilia told her mother, records say, “the mother did not believe the child.”

In 2007, the documents say Camilia Terry “attempted suicide” by taking pills.

A week later, she was to be released from the hospital, but had no one related to her who would help.

The records say there were “no appropriate relatives willing to provide care” for her.

A DNA sample taken from Terry confirmed the victim was her son, Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner Dr. Thomas Gilson said Thursday. The genetic sample was used for identification instead of asking a relative to confirm the identity of the decomposing body, which matched the boy’s description

Murder trial begins for Camilia Terry
Erin Kennedy, WKYC-TV 6:55 p.m. EST November 4, 2013

Camilia Terry, who is accused of killing her 3-year-old son, Emilliano, was in court today.

Jury selection is now underway

Twenty-one-year-old Terry walked into a Cuyahoga County courtroom Nov. 4 for the first day of her murder trial.

Almost one year ago, in late November, Terry reported her son missing, telling police her little boy disappeared at Kossuth Park in Cleveland.

But almost immediately, police realized her story didn't add up.

For example, surveillance cameras had caught Terry alone at the park, around the same time she'd said Emilliano went missing.

According to police, before reporting her son missing, Camilia had already killed him, stuffed his body in several trash bagsand left his body in a trash bin.

His cause of death was blunt force impact the head and body.

In court, Camilia wore a blue blouse and a black skirt.

When asked by Judge Janet Burnside how she was, Terry replied: "fine, thank you" and politely answered any questions directed at her.

Also in the courtroom, about 60 possible jurors.

They will now fill out a written questionnaire as the prosecutors and defense work to determine who will sit in on this heinous and high-profile case.

Jurors were also instructed to stop watching TV.

Camilia Terry told detectives last month that a former boyfriend killed her 3-year-old son

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Opening statements are expected to begin at 1:30 p.m. today in the aggravated murder trial of Camilia Terry, who is accused of killing her 3-year-old son, Emilliano, almost a year ago.

Emilliano's body was found among compacted trash at a garbage transfer station. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's office ruled he died after his skull was fractured

Terry, 21, had reported her son missing in a frantic phone call to Cleveland police on Nov. 25, 2012, but later admitted she had placed her son's body in a trash can, according to Cuyahoga County prosecutors

However, last month Terry spoke to Cleveland police homicide detectives again, telling them that a former boyfriend named "Red" had drugged her and killed her son, according to court filings in the case. She did not provide a full name for that ex-boyfriend.

In response to that statement, county prosecutors have asked Common Pleas Judge Janet Burnside for permission to introduce additional evidence about abuse suffered by Emilliano – including fractured bones in 2011.

Prosecutors also said in court filings that they plan to introduce evidence that Terry had discussed and posted on social media the topic of adoption, which they believe shows Terry wanted Emilliano out of her life.
