Ex-Drew Peterson lawyer drops libel lawsuit against Tribune, others
January 18, 2014

One of convicted murderer Drew Peterson's former attorneys on Friday dropped his libel lawsuit against another Peterson lawyer, Tribune Co. and other defendants.

Joel Brodsky had alleged in his lawsuit that a letter written by attorney Steven Greenberg and provided to the Chicago Tribune and other media contained "false and misleading" material that defamed him by portraying him as a liar and an incompetent lawyer. Brodsky alleged that the letter was an effort by Greenberg to blame him for Peterson's conviction in September 2012 for the murder of his third wife, Kathleen Savio.

In his motion, Brodsky said his attorney had a series of health setbacks and he might refile the lawsuit within a year.

Drew Peterson facing loss of police pension
11:42 a.m. CST, January 24, 2014

Drew Peterson soon could find himself fighting to keep his pension, as an investigator hired by the Bolingbrook Police Pension Fund has found there's enough evidence to begin forfeiture proceedings against the retired sergeant.

Attorney Charles Atwell forwarded his decision after a nine-month review that included examining court transcripts and other records to determine whether Peterson’s murder conviction meant he should be stripped of his pension. In a brief letter sent to village officials the earlier this month, Atwell said state statutes would support holding a hearing to consider terminating the benefit.

Under Illinois law, the board could revoke Peterson’s $79,000-a-year pension if it finds he used his law-enforcement powers or skills to drown his third wife, Kathleen Savio, in 2004.

There's still a chance that he will lose his pension.

Bolingbrook board agrees to hearing on Drew Peterson's pension
Published: Thursday, March 20, 2014 5:26 p.m. CDT

BOLINGBROOK – Drew Peterson doesn't think being convicted of murdering his third wife is a reason to strip him of his pension.

But the Police Pension Board unanimously agreed Thursday to hold a hearing that could do just that.

Last year, the five-member board questioned whether Peterson's conviction terminated his pension rights by committing a "job-related felony," board attorney Richard Reimer said.

The board hired Charles Atwell, another lawyer who specializes in pension funds, to review transcripts and evidence from Peterson's trial. In January, Reimer and board members received a one-page report from Atwell saying there are sufficient grounds for cutting Peterson's pension.

Illinois Prosecutors Respond to Drew Peterson Appeal
Thursday, Nov 6, 2014 • Updated at 3:48 PM CST

Prosecutors have asked a court to reject former police officer Drew Peterson's appeal of his murder conviction.

The Will County state's attorney's office says it filed a 60-page brief Thursday morning with Illinois' Third District Appellate Court in in Ottawa.

•Court Upholds Firing Of Drew Peterson's Son

Peterson gained notoriety after his fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, disappeared in 2007. He was convicted in 2012 of killing his third wife, Kathleen Savio, and sentenced to 38 years in prison.

Peterson's legal team filed their 55-page appeal in January. It argues prosecutors had no physical evidence tying Peterson to Savio's death and no witnesses placing him at the scene.

The defense has two weeks to file a reply brief.

Drew Peterson charged with hiring hit-man to kill 2012 murder trial prosecutor

Drew Peterson

RANDOLPH COUNTY, IL – Drew Peterson has been charged with solicitation of murder and murder for hire in an Illinois courtroom Monday morning.  He is accused of tying to hire someone to kill Will County State’s Attorney James Glascow, the lead prosecutor in Peterson’s 2012 murder trial. We are trying to determine if Peterson tried to engineer the crime from prison.

The Randolph County State’s Attorney writes in a statement to the media, “The charges allege that between September 2013 and December 2014, the defendant solicited an individual to carry out a murder-for-hire plot against Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow. The defendant made an initial appearance on the charges today at the Randolph County Courthouse. A preliminary hearing is set for March 3 at 10am.”

Prosecutors: Drew Peterson tried to have Will County state's attorney killed
February 9, 2015, 12:16 PM

Peterson attorney Steve Greenberg said Monday morning that neither he nor Peterson's family had been informed of any charges. He called the idea of Peterson trying to retaliate against Glasgow "absurd."

"Drew would have nothing to gain and everything to lose by doing that," Greenberg said. "And prosecutors say he's the most careful criminal ever, don't they?"

Greenberg said Peterson has had trouble with inmates and guards at Menard, a maximum-security prison known for its lockdowns and myriad other problems.

Peterson, 61, was sentenced in 2013 to 38 years in prison for murdering his third wife, Kathleen Savio, in 2004. The case is currently on appeal.

The Bolingbrook police pension board is currently deciding whether to strip Peterson of his $79,000-a-year pension – an ironic move given that prosecutors argued he killed Savio and caused Stacy Peterson’s disappearance so they would not receive a cut of his pension.

I couldn't believe when I saw it, klaas!  You're right--what an ego.  And what about this comment:  ""Drew would have nothing to gain and everything to lose by doing that," Greenberg said. "And prosecutors say he's the most careful criminal ever, don't they?"  Guess he's not the most careful criminal ever--just full of himself and thinks he's "untouchable."  jmo

Hearings begin over Drew Peterson's Bolingbrook pension
Published: Friday, April 24, 2015 2:58 p.m. CDT • Updated: Friday, April 24, 2015 2:59 p.m. CDT

BOLINGBROOK - Drew Peterson's monthly $6,000 pension could be taken away if board members believe he used his police training to kill his third wife.

The Bolingbrook Police Pension Board began a hearing Friday to see if Peterson terminated his pension rights by committing a felony related to his job.

Peterson, who served as a Bolingbrook officer from 1977 to 2007, did not attend the hearing. He was convicted in 2012 of murdering Kathleen Savio. Savio was found dead in a bathtub in March 2004. Her drowning was initially ruled accidental, but the case was re-opened when Peterson's fourth wife, Stacy, disappeared in October 2007.

Charles Atwell, a lawyer who specializes in pension funds, said it doesn't matter whether Peterson was on-duty when Savio's life ended, but whether he used his access and training in crime scene investigation and interrogation techniques to set up "the whole scheme."

You're welcome, MuffyBee!

Also, the article mentioned activities that I found odd at the time Kathleen was found.  They just didn't make sense in my opinion.

Quote
Schurr told Pension Board members he believed it was unusual Peterson went to the house by himself, called a locksmith before calling police personnel and that his neighbors had gone into the house with him.

Drew Peterson’s Murder-Conviction Appeal Aired In Courtroom
May 21, 2015 7:42 PM

OTTAWA, Ill. (AP) — Drew Peterson’s murder conviction in his third wife’s 2004 death should be overturned because of improper use of hearsay evidence and mistakes by his former attorney, lawyers for the former suburban Chicago police sergeant told a state appeals court Thursday.

A Third District Court of Appeals judicial panel did not immediately issue a ruling after Thursday’s hearing.

Bolingbrook Police Pension Board compels Drew Peterson to provide deposition
Published: Wednesday, June 10, 2015 4:28 p.m. CDT • Updated: Wednesday, June 10, 2015 10:59 p.m. CDT

BOLINGBROOK — The Bolingbrook Police Pension Board voted unanimously Wednesday to compel Drew Peterson to provide a deposition in a case determining whether his pension should be stripped from him.

If it is decided the former Bolingbrook police officer used his police training to kill his third wife, his annual $79,000 police pension could be taken away.

On Wednesday, the five-member Pension Board denied a motion by Peterson's attorney, Steven Greenberg, to quash the evidence deposition for Peterson.

Charles Atwell, a lawyer who specializes in pension funds, said Wednesday he's pleased with the outcome. Atwell, who filed the initial motion to compel Peterson's deposition, said he wants Peterson to testify "as part of [Peterson's] burden of proof" in the pension hearing.

But Greenberg said Peterson has a right to cite his Fifth Amendment rights when deposed. Whether he answers any questions will be up to Peterson, he said. It's also possible Peterson will refuse to participate, he said.
