Manhunt continues for murder suspect; reward now offered [FREE ACCESS]
Published 4:21pm Friday, June 8, 2012
 ::snipping2::
U.S. Marshals, helping with the hunt for murder suspect Deandra Marquis Lee, are now offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to his arrest. This is in addition to another $5,000 reward offered by Montgomery resident Mark Kitchens.

Selma Chief of Police William T. Riley said dozens of law enforcement agents are working leads within Selma, including one that took place shortly before noon Friday on Weaver Street.

The Times-Journal witnessed the street partially blocked off as agents surrounded the home located at 802 Weaver Street. Agents, carrying high-powered assault rifles, handguns and wearing body armor were seen around the house and in neighboring streets and wooded areas.

Authorities at the scene told the Times-Journal that tips on Lee’s whereabouts had lead them to the house but that Lee was not there.

On Thursday, the Alabama Bureau of Investigation, the agency leading the manhunt and murder investigation, announced Lee was likely in the Selma area.

 ::snipping2::
“This man is a danger to anyone, he is a danger to society and he is a danger to law enforcement,” Riley said, commenting that Lee is believed to be armed and dangerous. “We’ve already seen what this man is capable of. As far as I am concerned, if anyone is caught offering aid and comfort to him, they should be charged accordingly.”

Arrest made in slain Alabama twins case

updated 6:29 PM EDT, Sat June 9, 2012

 ::snipping2::

Prior to his arrest, authorities converged on an apartment complex near the Vaughan Regional Medical Center and evacuated residents from his building.

Efforts to "initiate communication" with people inside the apartment were unsuccessful, the state investigative bureau said in a news release. Authorities then "made entry into the apartment (and) immediately took Lee into custody."

Alabama judge sets $3 million bond is slaying of 9-year-old twins, baby sitter

HAYNEVILLE, Ala. — A judge on Monday ordered the suspect in the shooting deaths of 9-year-old twins and their 73-year-old baby sitter to be held on $3 million bond.

Deandra Marquis Lee, in a black-and-white jail uniform with his hands and ankles shackled, appeared before Lowndes County District Judge Adrian Johnson. Johnson set the 22-year-old's bond at $1 million for each murder charge.

The judge appointed Hayneville attorney Jerry Thornton to represent Lee and said he would not enter a plea until after the case is heard by a grand jury, possibly early next year.
 Lee has been charged with three counts of murder, but officials said the charge could be amended to capital murder when it goes before the grand jury. That means the death penalty could be considered.

HAYNEVILLE — Triple-murder suspect Deandra Marquis Lee, 22, is being held in the Lowndes County Jail on a $3 million cash bond following an initial appearance before Lowndes County District Court Judge Adrian D. Johnson Monday.

Johnson also appointed Hayneville attorney Jerry Thornton to represent Lee.

Lowndes County District Attorney Charlotte Tesmer asked for a $1 million cash bond for each case.

outrageously high bond? would it be too high if it was his grand children who were murdered in cold blood by the person who was on the run when he was captured???? I would say that he is a flight risk...we already saw that he was and now what would stop him from taking off???

EXCLUSIVE: Girdner's brother: Jack Mac and twins' mom were dating
Posted: Jun 14, 2012 2:16 PM EDT Updated: Jun 15, 2012 12:28 PM EDT

 ::snipping2::
Girdner's family has remained mostly silent following the events that lead to the discovery of the victims' bodies last week on a dirt road near the caregiver's home. Now, Mr. Girdner's brother is speaking exclusively to WSFA 12 News.

"Terrye Moore was in a relationship with my brother and the kids loved him," Kenny Girdner said. Jack Mac's youngest sibling says they were in a relationship for three years; something he didn't find out about until three months ago.
 ::snipping2::
In an exclusive interview last week, Terrye Moore said Girdner was a friend of three years.

"That contradicts what my brother says," Girdner explained.

Kenny says pictures of the twins and their mother are still on the refrigerator and in picture frames in his brother's home and says it's a sign of his love for the twins and their mother.

"That's what he told me," Girdner said.

While searching for Jack's insurance information, Kenny says he found a letter from Jack that indicated Terrye was seeing him and another man, who is her current boyfriend.

"He couldn't share a woman, and that she had to choose," Girdner said.

Suspect in Ala. triple-murder attacked in court
Updated 6:13 p.m., Monday, July 2, 2012

HAYNEVILLE, Ala. (AP) — An Alabama man charged in the slayings of 9-year-old twins and their elderly babysitter was briefly attacked by three men on Monday as he walked handcuffed into a courtroom, where a judge later found there was enough evidence to bring the 22-year-old's case to a grand jury.

The three men threw punches at Deandra Marquis Lee as he arrived in the courtroom at the Lowndes County Courthouse Monday afternoon.

Lee, in chains and handcuffs, appeared to try to run from the men. No one was injured, but District Judge Adrian Johnson ordered the three held for 24 hours for contempt of court.

 ::snipping2::

"I'm sorry for what I did," one of the men told the judge. "I looked over and (Lee) had a little smirk on his face."

Johnson ordered the three men to cool off for a night in the Lowndes County Jail.

 ::snipping2::

The prosecutor said later that the next step will be to take the charges against Lee to a Lowndes County Grand Jury, which she said may not happen until early next year
