Leonard Joyner, a named suspect in the case turned himself in after seeing he was on TV. Also, a second suspect, Jerome Butts was arrested and charged with murder. Both men are in the Wayne County Jail under no bond. More arrests are expected in this case.

3 arrested in Goldsboro homicide case, 4th suspect sought

GOLDSBORO, N.C. --
Goldsboro police arrested three people and issued a fourth warrant Friday night in the case of a missing 16-year-old.

Kennedy Fitzgerald McLaurin of Goldsboro was reported missing Sept. 10 by his mother.

Leonard Eugene Joyner, 21, turned himself in Friday night. A second and third suspect, Jerome Jilah Butts and Kevin Edward Smith, were also arrested and charged with murder. Butts, 19, and Smith, 18, are both from Goldsboro.

A warrant was also issued for the arrest of 17-year-old Curtis Etheridge, of Goldsboro, on a murder charge

I wonder if young Kennedy owed  someone money?  It's amazing what people kill one another for these days.     Or was it over a perceived slight?  I guess we'll know soon enough, but it's really sad.  This young man must have been terrified when he was grabbed and pulled in the car.  And then it seems it got  a lot worse.  His family must be broken hearted.

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — One of four men suspected of kidnapping a Goldsboro teenager nearly two weeks ago led authorities to remains that police believe are those of the missing teen, his mother said Saturday.

Goldsboro police said they found remains they believe belong to Kennedy "Ken" Fitzgerald McLaurin Jr., 16, buried on a remote farm near Seven Springs late Saturday morning. Police had searched the area Friday.

"I've got peace of mind. Now I know for sure, and I'm dealing with it," McLaurin's mother, Kim Best, said.

Ken McLaurin Sr. said that he is relieved that all four suspects in his son's death are in jail, and he is waiting for more answers, including a positive identification and the results of an autopsy by the state Medical Examiner's Office.

The fourth suspect — Curtis Omar Etheredge, 17, of 113 Biltmore Drive — surrendered to police early Saturday afternoon.

The other three suspects – Jerome Jilah Butts, 19, of 186 Sandstone Drive, Leonard Eugene Joyner, 21, of 104 Cotton Field Drive, and Kevin Edward Smith, 18, of 200 Marlette Drive — had already been taken into custody. All four men are charged with murder and being held in the Wayne County jail without bond.

3 suspects in Goldsboro teen's death back in court

GOLDSBORO, N.C. --
Three of the four men accused of killing a Goldsboro teen will be back in court today for a probable cause hearing.

Authorities have charged Jerome Butts, Leonard Joyner, Kevin Smith and Curtis Etheridge with felony murder in the death of 16-year-old Kennedy McLaurin.

Police believe they forced McLaurin into a car on Sept. 9 and left him for a dead in an abandoned farm in Seven Springs.
