There are several people here that are from Aruba and this would be a great Q&A area for them to answer questions regarding the area.

I do have a question. With almost 100k people living on Aruba (correct me if I'm wrong), all the tourists visiting daily and being in the middle of your every day lives, WHERE DO YOU GO TO GET AWAY FROM IT ALL? If i'm not mistaken Aruba is only 19 mile long and 6 miles wide at best. I dont work within 19 miles of where I live and I enjoy being able to get on the road and just drive.

I think the people of Aruba are wonderful. The patience they must have, and the devotion they have to helping find Natalee.

My prayers and thoughts are with Natalee and her family and the people of Aruba.

Keeper, going around the country side, it's pretty deserted and you can hear the birds, the sea waves breaking on the rocks...

I sound totally boring, don't I?  Embarassed

It sounds beautiful. I remember you saying about the North Shore being a rocky area where a body could be thrown and lost at sea. Where is that and would you elaborate on the area? How far is that from the light house?

This is an example of Aruba's rough coast:

Please excuse the shoddy picture.

This one is not near the light house, but you would have to drive perhaps 15 min?

That is stunning! It also looks very dangerous. Is the water that rough most of the time??

Yup, and it wasn't even the worst I've seen. I was a bit miffed that day, because I wanted to capture high waves, but the wind wouldn't cooperate.

How many criminal defense attorneys are there in Aruba? In Aruba and the Netherlands Antilles?

A LOT, Garfield, at least for such a small island. I wouldn't even dare venture a guess on the Neth ANtilles. I counted 28 Law Offices, with about 3 lawyers per office.

I love the Aruban people but I can't hang out on the island for more than a week. Too small. I left in 1983

Booya, sometimes I really really just want to leave, esp. after having to deal with some of my relatives.

Thanks Arubagirl. That is a lot of attorneys for a population of 100,000. More than I expected. Maybe the international financial sector.

Could be, don't know.

My mom works for an off-shore company, and they don't use lawyers that much, though.

I went to Aruba on my honeymoon in September.  I loved it and looked forward to going back.  I know that crime can and will happen anywhere, but it has really put a dark cloud over this island.  I am so sad that this has happened.

My heart aches for Natalee & her family. Crying or Very sad

This one crime won't affect my opinion of Aruba.  However, the effectiveness of the investigation and justice system of your country will leave a lasting impression.

I'm willing to give Aruban law enforcement the benefit of the doubt for now and not jump to conclusions. The only thing I see that they did wrong was the confusion regarding the "confessions" last week, but that was probably because they had little experience with the international press and a high profile case.

They don't even have a body yet. All you have to do is turn on Cold Case Files to figure out that we have unsolved cases in America. What about the Jon Benet Ramsey case? The Natalee Holloway case probably will be solved.

This is a good map of Aruba. Holiday Inn should be number 18.

Hi Everyone,

Does anybody know where the Marriott is, in relation to the Holiday Inn?

Thanks.
